blood, excessive violence and language aren't so bad individually, but it would be hard to the ESRB to call it a "T" with all those things together. Maybe Cortana's atire (or lack therof) may have something to do with it too. Anyway, sorry about your problem with M-rated games. I'd look for a way around it.

I dont know why, but I find this thread funny for some reason. Most likely because at our highschool video game club we play Halo the whole time and the teachers ler us even though it's rated M. It's pretty cool to be able to do that.

lets just face the facts people, "The Man" is a -blam!- and will put a rating or cap on anything that is fun to the younger kids. everyone knows young kids are pretty much unaffected by violence shown on tv and in video games. so why doesn't "The Man" just let us have fun. Because then -blam!- ass strict parents would -blam!- and they get in -blam!-. There are always going to be people out there that will whine and complain so that the younger people cannot have fun. I personally don't think rated R means -blam!-. I've been watching rated R movies with my parents since I was like 7 or somthing. the only moive that really scared me as a kid were terminator 2 and the alien movies. but now they are just awesome movies. and i haven't killed anyone. if someone was going to kill someone they would do it, and if your son or daughter kills someone you have bigger problems then letting them play violent video games. adults always needs someone to blame their problems on, so instead of blaming themselves or their children for being a bad person them blame the game companies. yup this world suck but thats how she turns.

Haha, thats funny, because just today I was at school playing Halo. It wasn't really a club though, just something a cool teacher decided to do. By the way I'm 16, since this thread is half about ratings. Let me just tell you it shines a new light on school when you have a teacher 6 feet away from you yelling ""-blam!- you guys! ARRG MONKEY BALLS''

But for the guy with the question, I'd say find a friends house off campus to play on the weekends. Unless your not allowed to leave? That would be fascist as hell.

I still don't see why you (as a Resident Director) couldn't play it there? I doubt anyone under 17 will be there. And would they actually check your game collection for rated M games? Unless they do, what they don't know won't hurt them.

The ESRB's ratings are stupid anyway. If it shows any more than a puff of red "smoke" when a person is shot, the game automatically gets the M rating. At least the ratings aren't mandatory though. Apart from one time at a Wal-Mart, I've never seen the ratings enforced. But since I'm 18 now it doesn't really matter.

Hey, just be thankful this game isnt being made by Rockstar and Halo 2's subtitle is
Zanzabar City or MankindHunt.... :P

Then it would be "A" a for "Anplayable...."

I would just like to note that we lived in an utopia until videogames came around. Adam and Eve were thrown out of the garden of Eden for playing mature video games.

Well let me phrase it this way. Would you rate HALO as the same as an R rated movie? or Would it be PG-13?

I see tons of blood in movies. In Van Helsing and other stupid monter movies there is blood and gore at a higher rate than HALO ever was. PLUS its ALEIN BLOOD. The S word is in PG movies let alone PG-13 heck I have hear a few F Bombs in some PG-13 movies.

I think what I am trying to say is that the Video Rating should equal the Movie ratings. Heck lets rate games with the same scale. PG13 and R.

The reason I can't play is we went way over PC as a school policy with BMX XXX and GTA.

in halo one, u can clearly see why it was rated m, first of all, theres excessive violence, then, when u see covenant on the ground dead and you start punching the crap out of it with your guns, blood splatters everywhere. and also, in halo 2, theres going to be a lot more blood because theres going to be more weapons and stuff, and bungies trying to make it as realistic as possible

Firstly, you work at a college correct?
Secondly, no college institution (since UConn is a public university) can deny patrons the right to their privacy and acts that come with the priviledged age as long as they are of that age. This even applies to drinking.

I found this in the UC handbook, it's actually protected under the Constitution.

Well no one answered my question. Does HALO or what we have seen from HALO 2 equal a rated R movie?

In Indian Jones and the Temple of Doom a human heart is ripped out of a living man's chest PG13

In National Lampoon's Vacation and Doc Hollywood there is toppless women.

In Dracula: Dead and Loving It While killing a vampire they must have used 30 gallons of blood as a joke. PG13

All the Austin Powers movies are more approprate for 13 year olds than most M rated games?

I just don't understand why it people don't care and that if it's rated M like GTA and Leasuure Suit Larry and Playboy Mansion and video games continue to take a PR beating people don't care. Oh well I guess I am the only one that cares.

Wow, you really care about ratings? Here (in Belgium) no-one gives a damn about it... I bought the GTA double pack at age 14 without a problem, though it says 18+ on the carton box, and both game's boxes :-).
On topic: Halo 2 will certainly be M-rated. Halo 2 isn't going to be less violent than Halo 1.

To put a long story into a short paragraph if the game is rated M I will not be able to play the game. I will not be able to have it at work, or in my house. While I am a Resident Director at a College and I will not be able to have HALO 2 tournaments.

work won't let you play Halo 2? simple. QUIT!!!

With the exception of Indiana Jones none of those movies apply-
$exual Nature isn't enough to justify an R rating unless it's of 9 1/2 weeks type nature - $ex is a natural thing. Violence is more frowned upon - and in the case of Indiana Jones - you notice that there was no blood -- they had to change it to keep the PG-13 rating -- one drop of blood (or more likely a gout) would have irrevocably changed the movies rating to R.

I think ESRB was fair in the rating of Mature and the Content Descriptors on the back of the package will tell you exactly why.

And the reason that those other games are rated highly is because of the gratuitous nature of them.

At my local future shop, it says game rated M will not be sold to people under 17!!!! Halo is rated M, so there is no way Halo 2 will be rated teen.
