OK, hopefully someone can confirm this (preferably one of those slippery bungie guys, but I doubt it). I just witnessed the craziest thing while playing Halo PC. On the "Halo" level at the very end I did what everyone eventually does when they've played it for the 300th time: I tossed a sticky grenade on the head of a Pillar of Autumn crew member as he was loading in the pelican. Instead of doing the usual and running around like a normal guy who gets a sticky grenade stuck to his head, he stood where he was, extended his arms, and slowly turned around like a baby mobile! It was like he was doing some wierd religious ritual before he died. Has anyone else seen this before? In any case, I'm sticking to my story. Let me know. Thanks.

Is there anyway you can record this and send it to like halo.bungie.org or somethin? Sounds pretty funny though.

It's been documented. It is rare, but ot appears to be an oddity in the marine/human AI. I've seen it on Marines in the T&R's brig do that when in their cells. Stand at attention, arms straight out to the sides, and slowly spin. It sure IS odd to see.

I think it might have something to do with a response to a mortal threat when in an enclosed space. That's just a guess.
I own a virtual pet site and have to do a lot of programming. i havnt done much AI programming but i do know how to. it doesnt seem that there could be an ai glitch like that. it should just be a simple string of code saying basically if a marine character gets hit with plasma grenade item, marine character flails arms around and runs like idiot. u know somethin like that. oh well. i will never understand the intermost workings of bungie's programmer's minds. maybe they put it in as a joke?

Somethin I HAVE seen though is sometimes for some reason, a marine will be standin in place but his feet are moving like hes walking or sidestepping. so it looks like hes dancing. its pretty funny the first time u see it

I've seen it. I was trying to get the invincible marines to follow me out, and i chucked a grenade at a guys head. He did it. I've also seen one of the yellow-suited people in the glass bit stand up and run around grenade-like when I shot him. Weird

im with ibeechu... i dont know that much about programming... and the only AI code ive seen was for Tic Tac Toe... but i think that is something that would have to be programmed for it to happen... dissapearing is one thing... but getting up and dancing is another...

I did say that it was only a guess. The main reason that I considered it an oddity of the human/marine AI is that I've never seen a grunt, jackal, elite, hunter or flood combat form perform the maneuver.

Again, the reaction that I am referring to is to stand stock still, raise their arms straight out like an "airplane", and to (sometimes) turn in a circle. I found a reference on HBO including a vid here. Wow, this was documented over 2 years ago.

So (to me) it would appear to be unique to the “allied” AI, which is the marines/humans. Besides, what does control a NPC's actions? AI code, isn't it? The link to the HBO forum posts discuss that the “T” stance is a “neutral” or standard stance for a modeled object. They suppose that the game isn’t certain of “what to do” so it poses them in that pose.

Again, this is still just a guess. But I consider it a good guess until I see an alternative that makes sense.
That makes a lot of sense because all (well all the models ive done and seen been done) are modeled exactly like tha. feet together and arms out. but as for spinning around, i have no idea how that could happen. unless it tries to meld two animations together. the game may get confused and go to the neutral stance but with the grenade, it may move the legs making it look like its dancing. as 343 GS would say, "Ah, I am a genious"

That makes sense. Thanks for the link, by the way. It's probably busy right now, but I'm sure I'll be able to open it eventually.
Another one of my favorites that I haven't been able to recreate was when I was fighting alone with a grunt one time. While he was firing at me I ran up and hit him in the face and when he came to he goes, "Do that again!", like he was taunting me or something. It was great. Let me know if you know of any other crazy stuff like that that is pretty rare. I'd like to hear. Thanks.
