I'd just like to take a minute to agree that using a banshee takes skill, but not in the way people are saying it does. Currently, it looks like popular opinion says it's a good idea to fly high up and rain plasma death on opponents.

People have their prefrences.
If I remember correctly, Obi-wan used to be able to rain death with the Banshee.
The only way I classify someone as a "noob" if in them, is if they are ramming the damn thing into the ground and writing their own death note, or if they are sitting on a portal waiting for people to go through and die.
Someone who can use it, will effectivly fly around, in the air, and rain death on the people below.

With the banshee you don't know what to do with it at firstbut you soon realise the idea is to go up high and rain plasma death on them and flying into them from behind.
WHAT. THE. -blam!-.
This is a very VERY bad strategy: it's akin to flying that fighter jet (really, a better analogy is a helicopter or something, the damn thing is so slow) slowly through an area full of anti-aircraft cannons (i.e. peoples pistols, tank shells, MG hogs, AR fire). Doing so for any lengthy period of time will get you shot up. Hell, 2 banshees telecamping is about 200% more effective than 2 banshees sitting in the air waitng to be shot down.
The banshee fire is slow, slow, SLOW, you can easily dodge it from a distance while unloading a pistol full of ammo into it. Ground troops vs banshees almost always have the number advantage, and to stay in their range of fire is stupid. Admittedly trying to ram them from a long approach from the top is also stupid, but the BANSHEE ITSELF is a weapon, a giant purple vee-wedge of INSTANT DEATH. It kills people very fast instantly and should be used as such - running people over from behind or popping up under cliffs is the proper way a banshee should be used, not sitting in the air or trying a 50m landing approach on the infantry. Why do you think aircraft do terrain-following maneuvers?
Staying in the air just means more people shooting at you. The real reason people die in banshees is because they're mostly predictable, for example someone's banshee is camping the portal, so the enemy go grab a shotgun and they die. Someone drunkenly flying above your airspace? They get a hail of pistol ammo.
Seriously. Stay low in banshees, and be unpredictable - it's a much better way of fighting than going up.

I can kill reasonably well with pistol, sniper rifle, AR, etc– learning to account for the netcode and leading my shots. If I open a LAN game by myself I can use a FRG to blast a hog, send it flying and keep hitting it as it bounces around the map, but in a multiplayer game I can't hit crap with the FRG and usually kill myself with it in close quarters fighting. I don't know if it's just a lag thing, (I can account for lag with other weapons), or something else, but I'm actually better with the conventional weapons than the HWs.
Hate. FRG. Stupid green blobs...hard to aim...grr.
