What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

I have some advice.
1. Take the Dell
2. Drive to an open field
3. Beat on it, Office Space style
4. Get a new computer

You need to find out the model name of the two computers or even better the model name of the motherborads. Once you find those you can get the spec on what kind of memory they take and if it the same kind you are in luck. Chances are they are not.

And are there any risks if it is not the right thing to use?

Here you will need this to help you get your foot out of the back of your throat, looks llike its in there pretty deep. And what is that on your face? Egg?! *hands Kim a washcloth*

well, they wont even fit if they arent the same type of ram( say one is SD and one is DDR). if they are the same type( say both are DDR) then you have to worry about the speed of the ram. If the one is slower either two things will happen, they will both slow down to the speed of the slower ram, or the slower ram will be forced to speed up to the speed of the faster ram(over clocking).

Download CPU-z and check the type and speed of the ram in both computers.

This is how you find out wether it will or wont work:

Step one: Remove old RAM from computer A.
Step Two: Remove cover from computer B.
Step Three: Attempt to install old RAM from computer A to computer B.

Note If old RAM from computer A does not fit in computer B, it will not work.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

RAM won't necessarily increase performance unless you have integrated graphics.
And you have to figure whether your motherboard supports DDR or DDR2 RAM. And, yes, there is a difference.

Exellent! Now start your computer up (with the RAM still in it) and you should see a "Found New Hardware" box come up. If it doesn't, its fine. Now go to Control Panel (if your running Windows, I don't know if you are) and click on System. Under the "Computer:" part, it should say "512 MB of RAM", if the RAM doesn't work, it will say "256". If it says 256, have your computer scan for new hardware.

I'm sorry but I will have to disagree. Ram affects more than just integrated gpus. Why do gamers hate integrated video? Because the gpu will use system memory. Memory that would originally be used to run other programs and quicken loading times. Ram WILL increase preformance of the computer overall, however if you are talking specifically graphics then you are dealing more with a graphics card. In that case, the quality of the picture will not be improved by adding more system memory. It will only allow the rest of the system to function better.
