I was just thinking about whether it would be possible to see how many members are viewing a forum. Like 4 views Septagon 3 Underground. It would help see whens the best time to create a topic so folks will see it. (like me whos making this at 2:00 lol)

Anything that encourages new members to post more new topics, to me, is a bad idea.

Why is it a bad idea to help folks to know when not to post? Isn't the point of the forums for folks to express their opinions. Sure you get some bad seeds but thats how that one chienese symbol works.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

I think it would be a little negative in the fact that people would be stimulated to post only at certain times of the day.
This would disadvantage both people who view the forums at times of lower activity (as they would miss the bulk of activity and the opportunity to post their own threads and get replies) and also people who post in main stream times as their threads may be drowned out.

It would cause a larger rift between on and off times.

Though I can see the positive impacts aswell, I am just woried that when I use the forums, their will be less activity. While it is 2am American time, it is only 5pm my time. If no one posts now, my position is redundant.

I can see where you are coming from Pezza but it really doesn't change it too much from the present. In my time its 3 right now. I haven't seen too much posts today. I have a lot of european friends and for them I agree.

But it's not really going to change what time people come online is it? People won't be running home from work because it's bungie.net's busiest time of the day. I hope.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mabian did exactly that.

"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

Shhh! I have done no such thing...you know nothing...

Damn my wish to make a longer post!

I suppose I can see both sides of the argument. I'm going to lean with the "no" side, but I'm still a-hangin' on the fence. In short: I can't really add much. In theory it sounds at the least interesting. But a lot of things sound good in theory...

ROAF, there's something you should know about the world. I think you're old enough now to hear it. People like you and me, we're different from the others. Most of the world, contrary to you and I, dislikes spam. We're minorities really. We might even be eligible for education grants and lower mortgage rates. I'd have to look into that though.

I like spam in spam threads.

Sweet. I might get an education grant. I know that there are risks and such but maybe we could try it out for a bit and if people hate it Archnos or the Webmaster could kick it. I just think it would be useful. Espically for the classfieds.

This isn't a chat room, post you thoughts, book mark the thread, comeback later for answers. Also from what I can tell, every question every new member has asked can be answered by taking two minnutes to search the sites or FAQ or by a simple google search.

You were saying how theres not many posts at a particular time of the day. I said there doesnt need to be because its not a chat room. Who cares how many people are in one particular forum anyways?

Oh thats much clearer.

To answer your question. The classifieds. It'd be usefull to see when the oportune moment to post an add. Also say if you have a question and you want to know if anyone is on that particler forum to answer it.

Why would it be usefull in the classifieds?

When you post somthing, it only gets bumped down when somone else posts somthing.

So if you post somthing when there are a lot of people active there will be more people posting other things so it wouldnt make a differnce anyway would it?

That might be true but also even if someone posts something they might see oh hey theres a group for the Nintendo Wii cool and decide to join that group. A rare situation but it might happen.

Again. If someone sees a topic that is of interest to them while posting they might go and check it out. You are under the impression that every thread gets bumped down until no one can see it. (even though thats probably true in the h3 forum lol)

SB-117

This is no opportune moment to post an advert. If not many people are on the site, it will stay up for longer but no-one will read it. If you post at the prime time of the site where everyone is online, it will sink faster but there will be a lot more people to read it before it sinks quickly.

It would be useless for the classifieds too.

The same goes for any thread really. If you post at an inactive time, not many people will reply to it. If you post at an active time, it will sink quicker but there will be lots more people to read and post in it before it sinks. Knowing how many people are online seems kind of pointless to me.

I can understand your apprehension in allowing people to post new topics. However, expansion leads to progress, and the Seventh column must expand to progress (if that makes any sense to anyone else, just let me know).

"Take 'em down! NOW!"

If you wanted to bypass the imminent search for your last post (i.e. you want to cut through the crap), then there should be a highlighted tab alerting you to the pages on which you've posted.
