Subject: Join date in sigs?

Basically, would Bungie and Mods frown upon people putting their join date (or either their current account or their first account) in their signature for people to see?

I would assume it's mainly people who've been around for a while who would do it, but if their join date means something to them, I'm sure this could be a measure to display it.

Any thoughts?

ಠ_ಠ

I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem. People have been putting their original date in their signature for a while now.

"Would it be okay if we're elitist in our sigs, since you won't let us wear our join date like a medal?"

How about, if you want to know someone's join date, you open their profile?

It was merely a suggestion. People will still be elitist if they're that way inclined through profile-checking. That just slows it down, but I'm sure people will still continue to do it.

Why are people so worried about Join Dates?

They mean nothing. Just the other day a member who joined in 2004 was flaming the hell out of me for telling him that the Optimatch forum was the wrong place to post about levels.

In an earlier post, I said I counted 12 signitures with join dates in them. Change that to 14.

The funniest part is people who haven't been here as long as me even do it. If I don't care why do they?

To be honest, I couldn't care less about my join date (as it's not actually my real date for a start). I'm just suggesting this for the people who are shedding some tears over their loss.

I guess people hate the removal the same reason people like XBL Levels.....

I find no point for a visible level system anyway.....

I am a level 26 (hypothetical), I have some bad luck and lose a bunch of games. I am now a level 12. Am I a worse player? NO, but people treat me like that.

Same thing with join dates. I joined in 2006 (again, hypothetical), I make original threads and post good ideas in the Septagon. Do people treat me the respect I deserve? NO, they only see the join date.

Great idea

To argue in favor of the feature

I liked the "member since" And yeah I did wear it like a medal, but not for the reason you guys stated. I liked it because it made me kinda proud that I had posted here regularly for over a year. Sure I know people have been here longer/shorter than me, but I didn't care, I just liked having it cause this was one of the first things I've been consistant with and it reminded me of that.

And I've never used it for eliteism, in fact I challenge you to find one post of mine that has done so. I just thought it was a good feature.

That may be true, but you should see the amount of people who did use it for elitism....

As always, the content of your posts is far more important than what is in your sig or (no longer) under your avatar.

If a member is concerned with impressing other members, they should pay close attention to their statements and actions on the forums. That's what we all use in this text-based environment to decide what we think of another member. What they say and do. Nothing more, nothing less.

This desire to "impress" others reminds me of young males who try to come up with "clever" names as gamertags or online handles. They pick a name that is meant to demonstrate that they are "well blessed" by nature in the reproductive equipment area.

What it really shows however, is that they have confused "having" a big one with "being" a big one. While the ladies might be amused with someone who has one, no one likes a person who actually IS a big prick.

That was enlightening and confusing/worrying at the same time!

I don't see why people care about join dates, it doesn't show how nice or are or something.

I always try to make my posts as qaulity as possible, but I think no one ever cares, under the premise that I'm not active. Truthfully, I'm on each day, but people don't check the profile. Anyhoo, my join date was my own little reward. Whenever I seemed to never have a rep of any sort, I'd look over and my "Member Since" date and feel a sense of accomplishment. Now what can I do?

EDIT: It's like, we keep losing privilages, and this was one I thought was harmless. I really don't think people MAKE POSTS based on join date. They may judge when reading the posts, adding less value to them, but they don't, in my experience, say things like "Typical 2006 guy" or anything of the like. I mean, Recon once said that he would not ban a person for a petty mistake if they were new. Now he has to go back and forth to see.

Eh, I wasn't popular when I was active and I wasn't popular when I hit over a year on my join date. Other than making the posts look empty and not getting a reminder for my cousin's birthday, I don't mind at all.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

Ah, finally! I heard about this in GJJ's thread, but I was wondering when it would be implemented...it looks rather empty now, but I'm glad it has been implemented. Less false elitism because of join date.

You should be proud! Some of the most well liked members in the Flood are...well......wierd.

Frankly, I recoginize your name, not your join date. If I see Douglas make a thread, I assume it will be a fun discussion. If I see some ultra-popular member like L8te, I am pretty sure it will eventualy turn into a giant flamefest over something that has nothing to do with the topic.

While there are some good members that are widly popular, a lot of the popular ones tend to stress certain things. I have noticed that some of the popular members would rather say "Stoopid 06er, the flood isn't for spam!", instead of just kindly telling them that the Flood is off-topic, instead of spam world.

I think the only well liked Flood members are weird. Remember Mr. Crapper? I usually only remember things I care about but somehow even I remember him.

Best not to dwell in the past.........

EDIT-I just read Recon's post. I feel the same as that guy. I post on a Belguim forum, and I get laughed at for my poor grammer skills.....
