This is pretty much random, but why are blacklisting threads locked?
It doesn't say anything about them not being allowed in The Flood (where some people will post one occasionally) ; are they just inappropriate or something?

That's a standard thing, once the main topic thread goes away, it's kinda silly to keep it around.

Plus it doesn't seem beneficial to allow other members to publically say "LOL blacklisted!" in the thread.

Yeah, but then you could use it as a bug zapper of sorts. All the morons who are attracted to the thread merely so they can post "LOL blacklist" get zapped by a mod. I think it'd be fairly funny.

I think he was reffering to threads regarding blacklistings. Obviously, those are locked in leu of flameage.

Some remain unlocked when the topic creator is blacklisted, but I think that's more often an error on the Moderator's part.

Depends on the Thread, and what the Original Post was.

I do remember this one night where some guy posing as a girl who had an "interesting" date decided to share his obviously fake (and graphic) story with us. This was in the Flood.

The title of the Thread was "Hardcor ****" (I censored that word out) and Stosh comes in and says:

"HARDCORE BAN"

Then he locked it. Five minutes later he unlocked it, for reasons I can't understand. Then the spam and weird posts just poured in. I assume the reason they lock 'blacklist' threads is to limit the opportunity for people to spam a topic that doesn't have a topic anymore.

It's possible.
Sometimes the topic is in the title......and people can go from there.

  • 08.18.2006 9:52 AM PDT

Most of the times, the subject of the thread turns into a "Why was the thread creator blacklisted," so it is easier to just lock it.

Most things can't...

Most of the time it's because the topic is the reason the creator was banned or they bumped or spammed or did something bad which makes sense why people shouldn't continue to post. It sets a bad example. The white blood cells absorb the bacteria and break it down.

Actually, I meant threads about blacklisting.

Example:

How many Times Have You Been Blacklisted?

When the creator of a thread becomes blacklisted, then it obviously should be locked.

Guess I wasn't very clear. Oops.

But cockroaches can.

When you're blacklisted, your posts are stricken from the website. Essentially, any conversation you have had is wiped away. Ending conversations you've started is a natural progression of this punishment; and is carried out by way of locking threads the blacklisted user created.

After all, the majority of discussion after someone is blacklisted is "haha, u got blacklisted lol." Allowing a blacklisted user's threads to continue after they've been blacklisted invites more trouble.

As far as threads about blacklisting... Well, duh:

a) Off topic (spam)
b) Flaming
c) flame baiting (such threads invite forum jerks to come be forum jerks)
d) posting about individual users.

Funny you should mention that. Check The Flood, someone was curious enough to make a thread about it. But it's not a bad thread, just an inquisitive one.

That's so cool....after a person gets blacklisted. The topic suddenly changes.
