Now I don't speak for them (and I'm not defending them or anything) but it looks like a stressfull job, especially to those that take it seriously.
As of late, there has been a bit of .....criticism (some good, some bad), but regardless it's a good thing. Shows what the community wants from the people who keep it running smoothly.
However, we, as the community, need to do our part. It's not fair to ask so much out of them when we can't handle things for ourselves. If you see a thread going downhill, don't take part in it. Try to get it back on topic. Otherwise, it's locked. Is that so much to ask out of us members?
I too question their methods. Last night, a thread was deleted without a PM to the Thread Creator explaining what the reason for deletion was. So what did the Thread Creator do? He made a thread about why his original thread was deleted. He was so upset that he subverted the blam filter, mulitple times. The result? He's off for the week. Now what I think should have been done was a lock and explanation. Or a PM at least. However, as a member of the community, you should know better than to make a thread like that. It's a matter of reading the rules.
In conclusion, it does look like a stressful job. But the moderators run things pretty smooth and I could imagine they still have fun with the site. But they're just humans, like you and me (well, Shishka might be an exception), and they have emotions as well. Wouldn't a bad day cloud your judgement just a little if you had those powers? In the end, however, not everyone gets slapped with wet noodles and are forced to lick hippos. Be happy for that.
