You don't ask to be in the mod group.
The Mod group asks to be in YOU.

Ach! Was ist los?

I've seen this a question a lot.

The short answer is that you can't ask to be a moderator; they're selected by a process that's highly secretive and rarely exercised.

And the clan isn't exactly short of bodies right now, so I don't expect to see the process be exercised for quite some time to come.

I don't know if this is the right forum for this topic, but I couldn't find a better one. And yes, I know this has been posted before but I just spent like 10 minutes trying to find it. So don't post unless you're going to tell me how to become a moderator. All I need to know if the step-by-step procedure to submitting a Moderator request to Bungie. Thanks.

It seems like they get a new batch every year.

At least from what I've seen.

  • 08.17.2006 11:20 PM PDT

They come to you on AIM and be all like "Your a mod now -blam!-! You start tomorrow."

Or thats what i've seen from other forums... Must be the same way here. :-/

They put a gun to your head, telling you if you don't become mod, the hamster/possibly mom gets it. Well, that's what I heard from my III- Inside Information Informants........

We fought for them, we killed for them. But no more.
We have had our souls stolen from us, Our lives taken.
But no more!
They will pay for whom they have created.
They will pay their debt in blood...

I am a moderator in my group and it happened rescently im not sure when it happened exactly but i was just dominating the forum and i posted a topic asking where everyone was and the group leader posted back saying i was the forum dominator and when i replied i had a "moderator toolbar" where i can make a topic a sticky and choose to lock topics at will im quite excited really. i hope that helped you out a bit im still sketchy on the details myself

The Second Rule of Mod Club is...

That was one of the funnier things I've seen on this forum.

There is no request form and there is no asking. There's only a very small chance that anyone on these forums will become a mod, and for some there is no chance at all.

It involves a hippoponomous and a lot of screaming.

And a wet noodle.

Who would want to be a mod anyway? Then you would have to enforce the rules instead of being a BAMF and rebelling against them....

It would be a pain. I respect those who do mod, because I wouldn't want to do it.

Being a Moderator
...SUCKS!!

Sometimes I think that the newer mods don't do their work. They want to be like..not hated...so they, uh...slack off. Well, guess what? You're not here to make friends!! You're here to patrol forums. And the one thing that I don't like: Locking without posting. If it's obvious..then it's fine...but I see perfectly normal threads being locked with no posted reason. Why do they do that? Is it because they don't want people to know that it was them? So they won't get hated upon?!

Jeez...

It's rule number 2 of mod club:

Rule Number 1: Don't ask about Mod Club.
Rule Number 2: You don't ask to be in Mod Club............Mod Club asks to be in you.

Also akin to the unwritten rule: You don't become a moderator, they become you.

All of which are both twisted.......and a little gross, LoL.

Now I don't speak for them (and I'm not defending them or anything) but it looks like a stressfull job, especially to those that take it seriously.

As of late, there has been a bit of .....criticism (some good, some bad), but regardless it's a good thing. Shows what the community wants from the people who keep it running smoothly.

However, we, as the community, need to do our part. It's not fair to ask so much out of them when we can't handle things for ourselves. If you see a thread going downhill, don't take part in it. Try to get it back on topic. Otherwise, it's locked. Is that so much to ask out of us members?

I too question their methods. Last night, a thread was deleted without a PM to the Thread Creator explaining what the reason for deletion was. So what did the Thread Creator do? He made a thread about why his original thread was deleted. He was so upset that he subverted the blam filter, mulitple times. The result? He's off for the week. Now what I think should have been done was a lock and explanation. Or a PM at least. However, as a member of the community, you should know better than to make a thread like that. It's a matter of reading the rules.

In conclusion, it does look like a stressful job. But the moderators run things pretty smooth and I could imagine they still have fun with the site. But they're just humans, like you and me (well, Shishka might be an exception), and they have emotions as well. Wouldn't a bad day cloud your judgement just a little if you had those powers? In the end, however, not everyone gets slapped with wet noodles and are forced to lick hippos. Be happy for that.

Strange evolution how people have come to believe
That we are it's greatest achievement
We're barely, we're just a collection of cells
Overrating themselves

I think that what we really need is MORE threads about moderators, moderation, moderating, mod-anything. God knows thats what the Bungie community was founded on, posts about mods.

If people didnt waste so much time in here trying to jerk-off the mods, it wouldn't be such a bad place.
