So I have a Geforce FX5500 in my computer and the other day it takes a dump, computer works great, but won't play any games. Sad part is that it has never really worked the way it should it, but it's all over now, I need a new one. So let me ask you guys. I've got a gig of memory, a 2.8 g processor and a 250W power supply (the reason the other card never worked right, met the requirements on the box, but not well enough I suppose.) What card can I get that will play Halo well, but is still "affordable?" Thanks for your input.

First off, buy a better power supply. 250W? I think my Ipod needs more juice than that.

It's cheap and reliable. So what if it wont run mammoth resolutions? It's the ATI Radeon 9550! Buy one today!

LOL! If you do use it, download the Catalyst Control Centre. Does some pretty freaky -blam!-.

Did I mention that my system came with an integrated card so I have to put in a PCI card?

That's why I put in the Geforce, and believe me, my system didn't want to use the new card, it wanted to use the integrated one and I had a heck of a time getting it installed. But I'm still stuck with a PCI card, unfortunately.

Did you disable the integrated graphics, then properly install the 5500?

I think he has, because he's been using it......but, who knows?

Seems to me that he just plugged the 5500 in and hoped it would just start working.

Well he probably plugged it in, but was still on onboard.

Appreciate the credit there. I spent about three hours on with technical support trying to get the card installed right. They're the ones that told me that it's probably because of my power supply, though they had no answer for the fact that it's listed on the box as being enough. I wouldn't even get a screen if I hadn't disabled the integrated card.
I'm sure the power supply is what caused the card to malfunction, but the card is toast, that's not the issue, I just was wondering what pci card would work well with this game without costing as much as the last one did. I don't want to have to upgrade my power supply, but I will if I HAVE to. Just don't want to have to spend X amount of dollars on a card and have to buy a ps too. Any PCI cards that'll work?
