Here is something i find strange in Sci-fi games and movies!
Most aliens walk on two legs just like us and they are as smart as us, and they have some similaritys to our own cultur.
On the other hand there is also multi-legged aliens, but they are always savage animals much like our own beasts.
What my point is that why is there never any intellectuel aliens with more than two legs in sci-fi games or movies?
Is it because the ability of being able to stand on two legs meen you are a highly developed creature?
Or does it just seem like a standard thing?
What is your opinion?

Probably the lack of opposable thumbs...

When you take classes for storytelling, it is explained to you that, if you want your characters to be understood by the reader/viewer/player, they have to be able to identify with them. The more different your character is from your audience, the harder it is to achieve that level of identification, and the harder it is to sell the character to the audience.

This is why anthropomorphism work so well; make animals into people and give them people-like situations, emotions, and reactions, and suddenly a bridge between your characters and real people is built.

That's true, but the opposite could be just as effective, revealing an intelligent species with a social structure much like our own, but a complete physical paradox. This sense of alienation could be a key emotion that the creator could be trying to acheive.
