Subject: trouble with warping

Ever since I reformatted my hard drive halo has acted strange in a few ways, I fixed most the other problems but one annoying problem still happens, when I join a server everything goes fine, till I look round, every so often people in vehicles or on foot will "warp" (when your in one place and you dissapear and apear like 5 ft away from where you were), as do I, but not so often, it drives me crazy, it happens on every server I go to, unless I host. On the servers I go to the ping is not bad for me or anyone else, my ping hovers round 50-150, and my FPS is at 60, I have cox high speed internet, I dont have a router or anything else connected to the internet, also I only have xfire running while playing halo, my connection speed is 20 mbs, I can host 14 with no problems, I dont get what the problem is, it doesnt seem like its the connection I have thats causing the trouble. In addition I doubt its my GPU, I have a ATI Radeon X1300 with 512MB, also this is one of the rare X1300's that come with a fan, so its not overheating, I have tried turning down the graphics and it doesnt make a diff. I built this PC with an Gigabyte Tech Mobo and a AMD 64 processor. I hope I gave you enough info. Help would be greatly welcomed.

Don't drink to excess– You might shoot at tax-collectors... and miss

Computer: Power Mac G5 CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2) Number Of CPUs: 2 CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 1.25 GB Bus Speed: 900 MHz

ATi Radeon X800 XT Mac Edition
Display Type: LCD Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-bit Color

Does it always happen or just on some servers or when some people join?

It could be someone with dialup joins and starts warping around, or you have an unstable connection to a particular server.

it happens on every single server i go to

I know something that could cause exactly what you are describing....but I don't know if this is it. You might have a modded map, one where the vehicle speeds on your halo don't match the servers...which causes people to warp everytime the server corrects your halo. Try reinstalling.

ive tried reformatting, reinstalling and throwing my comp off a cliff, nothing works

It said "Test can take up to 10 minutes" I waited about 20 or more minutes, nothing happened, it keeps saying "testing".

Well that's normal for halo pc, horrible network code. But you're saying this only happend AFTER the format? In any case you're lucky. I don't consider my connection bad, but I seriously have to shoot at least 10 feet in front of my target, and take little baby steps to avoid falling off cliffs, lest the lag warp me off.

Do you honestly have to respond to every single post on the thread? And in such a cynical, narcisistic way? Honestly. People are trying to help, and you push them away with comments like this.

I'll help later, but right now, getting that word out to you.

Wait...so please explain how your internet isn't connected to anything between the wall and the computer. The only way that would work is Dial-up...and you mentioned up top that you had a high-speed connection. How does this connectivity work?

I'm as confused as me15ter. How does your internet layout work? Feel free to yell at me again if need be.

  • 08.20.2006 7:05 PM PDT
