You ARE part of the UK aren't you?

Yes, I'm part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I'm also part of England. It's probably more pertinent to the scots, welsh and northern irish than anything else. The English do not sport their own, individual parliament, but the other 3 countries do (to one extent or the other). They dislike being lumped with everyone else, we're individual nations, together as one kingdom. Individual being the key word. That, and I can't use "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", which would be far preferable to "United Kingdom".

edit: bleh. this is exceedingly difficult to explain without going into political discussion, and apart from that, the only reasoning behind this is "Because we say so".

I don't think "Because we say so" is our only arguement, but it's one of the main. There could be a lot of people who have problems with being grouped as the "U.K.".

The Black Chapter

In short, The citizens of the British Isles (England, Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland) are patriotic. They are English/Scottish/Welsh/Northern Irish as well as being British.
We support our own countries national teams, Not the British Nation Team because there isn't one.
Basically it comes down to this:
We are our own countries, We would like to be recognised as such.

I'd just put Airstrip One if I were you. Then people will be all like "wow, he reads books about politics".

Look, America is not ignorant about the plight of the United Kingdoms of uh, Britain. But we didn't win WW2 against the British and the French to be nagged at for failing to recognize your national boundaries. I mean, take it up with your congressman or something.

Funny.

That sounds like you are saying you beat Great Britain & France in WWII.

I thought that, then I had to assume it was just poorly worded.

Pure Ruin, what are you smoking? Nobody won WW2 against the British and the French. They were a member of the Allied forces against the Axis Forces. The Allies won. You ignorant American.

With regard to the nationality quibble, It surely is not that big a deal considering the fact that most websites have the US and the UK at the top of the list of nationalities to save our lazy selves from actually finding our country on the list. Plus, ignorant Americans, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland make up the United Kingdom OR The British Isles. Not the United Kingdom of Britain or the Kingdom of United Britain. Go back to school and learn something outside of your four time zones before posting on threads such as this one. Your ignorance has no place. Especially regarding the victors of the greatest armed conflict in the history of mankind. Get a clue.

Personaly, I'm not fussed that I'm from England and am "forced" to tick the UK box. No Alaskans feel disenfranchised by having to tick the US box. Fuss over nothing.

Man am I gonna get ripped for this.

Dude, ignorance is just not funny. It's ignorant. Hence the name. Particularly when Brits tend to flamed on xbox live the minute they open their mouths by tiny Americans who don't even know which side the British Army fought on in WW2 let alone why they harbour latent hatred for the country which gave rise to their own. Damn ingrates.

Nobody said it was funny. Well, except me. But when I said it it was in an entirely condescending tone. Though I must admit that the "complain to your congressman" bit got a half smile from me. Loosen up, man. :)

Tread carefully mate. It is an issue when Certain Americans, Not all Americans decide to mock you for coming from the country they probably origionate from. As for the insults you receive, Be bigger than them, Dont let them bother you, after all what do you have to be ashamed about. They are only telling you to have a cuppa and a crumpet. Most of the time, i'd quite like one. Either come back with a witty retort, shut them up somehow but always bare in mind that those few do not represent the entire population of The United States Of America.
You seem to have let a few influence your opinion on hundreds of millions.
All the best
Delta

I appreciate your point and admit my wording was out of place with regard to how it seemed that my gripe was with Americans as a whole. I have nothing but pity for those who are so poorly educated that they cannot deal with the fact that some of the people who play on xbox live are British. I find it dificult to comprehend how people can be so slow.

BTW, crumpets kick ass, and my tea comes with milk but no sugar. I'm sweet enough.

I like crumpets and tea, but I digress.

Oh, and the "British Isles" are: England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and some minor islands.

The name of the sovereign nation is "the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". (Before Ireland's independence in 1922, it was the UK of Great Britain and Ireland.) "Great Britain" is the name of the large island with England, Scotland (to the north), and Wales (a peninsula in the west). The "British Isles" include Great Britain, Ireland, and some smaller surrounding islands. ...

It's a huge "ka-fuffle".

Though I don't see why it matters that much, it's not like people who aren't from the UK/England really see any difference between England and UK or Great Britain.

Eh, actually look at the post above, he didn't know Scotland and Wales Exsisted. There should be every country, im proud to be Scottish, i don't want to be classed in an outdated, pointless Monarchy system that is called The United Kingdom. Im sure Any Englishman, Welshman or N Irishman would feel that same. Bah, too much polotics floating around in my head, i'll stop..

See, what did we say?! There's a Scot that doesn't particularly want to be "united" with us in his nationality. It's something most Americans can't grasp and I doubt most will ever be able to.

After answering a thread about the United Kingdom, I was wondering why we're not allowed to put our country as England (which in my case would be correct). Instead upon entering "England" I get the following message:

* This is not a valid country entry, or you misspelled your country.

So, those who don't want to be classed as being from the UK aren't allowed to change this. (We suffer enough being called "Brits").

Basically, is there any reason why this is the case? Thanks in advance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Egland a provence in the UK such as Whales or Scotland?

Did you read the rest of the thread? There are many reasons why we'd want seperate nations listed.
