For the record, i'd piss my self silly if there was an Armatik action figure.

"Lazy -zapp!-, what the hell are you doing playing with me? Get to work lazy ass."

Sorry, I thought the UK included only England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and another country I know I'm forgetting.

There's people that have internet in Afghanistan, why isn't that listed, then? Should those go to every single website and complain or ask why they are associated with Pakistan, or whoever they're closest to? A country like Georgia gets a place, but Afghanistan, with all the attention and media, doesn't?

England is not an island. England is a country on the island of Great Britain, the island of Great Britain being part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It's a united kingdom, of seperate countries. Tell a scot he's a brit and he'll probably nut you. National identities are extremely strong. The point we're trying to make is that that list of countries is exceedingly short-sighted. Britons only have the choice of "United Kingdom", which bundles the scots, welsh, english and northern irish all under one title. By the same note the Irish living in the republic only have "Ireland", which makes no differential between Northern Ireland and the Republic. You might not care, but to the people it involves (a sizable chunk of the userbase, i might add) it's extremely vexing. Then, to top it all off, we're forced to use the short and informal "United Kingdom", rather than the full "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". It doesn't matter that no one from Americania sees a difference between the constituant states, because we do, as does anyone else with a mite of interest about anything outside their own borders.

But its true, people really don't care about it. I'm not trying to offend you or any other British or English, whatever you want to be called, but that's the way it is (with most people). I care, but I know complaining won't do anything about it, because like I said before, there are more important things to worry about. I really wouldn't care all that much if I was labeled North American, it would be an annoyance, but I wouldn't get too upset about it.

Afghanistan is the very first country listed! Here, have a look.

No, it's not necessary but I think it would be nice and almost even courteous.

Armatik, don't think i don't know who you are..How could you not know about "The Uk" when Myself, Nathan, Twilight, pyro and im sure Peter are all in the staff and are all from here.

You numpty.

Anyway, would it not be possible to implment a drop down section sort of thing, where you could click "United Kingdom" and then it gives you options of the other countries, Wales, Scotland, England, N Ireland.

It's about National Identity alright. Im sure places like malasia, japan, china, etc wouldn't like to me classed as simply "Asia" Or People from the vatican City would like to be classed as such rather than italian. Those are two extremes, but you see my point.

  • 08.22.2006 12:14 AM PDT

England needs more freedom to express it's national identity - in the same way that the other countries of the UK do. However I don't think Bungie.net is the right place to start.

Just write to New Labour and explain that you will get a lynch mob together to deal with any further insane political correctness which attempts to suppress St Georges' Cross and the freedom to be proud to be English. Sign petitions to have St Georges day made into a national holiday - I do. Let's start closer to home, yeah? Let Bungie.net catch up later.

I've signed that. :)

Again, it would be nice, not a necessity.

Me too! Why would be want to even consider being associated with wales!? Even the EU flag shunned them.

While they're at it, they should make the Cheshunt Tesco branch a country. Then fly it into outerspace, give it to the aliens. then its just 1,245,043 more Tesco's to be rid of before our country can be happy again!

Well I didn't say that I (in particular) didn't know, I know you know that I know, but I'm talking about the majourity of non-Europeans who don't know.

Anyways, it'd be nice to fix this little problem, though you can't expect to go everywhere and have them fix it, because most won't even care. Maybe because of ignorance, or maybe because they have better things to do, who knows.

I hate being called American because I live in America. I'm like so Russian, but nooo, I have to be called an American JUST BECAUSE I LIVE HERE.

G'ay I tell you.

WHAT!?!? The Welsh invented Cheese on Toast!! They're the best.

I think you may have gotten your facts wrong, the EU flag did not shun them. The EU flag consists of a blue background consisting of a circle of 12 golden stars to represent the 12 original memebers. 1 of the members was the UK, composed of England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. So Wales was not left out.

You may be thinking of the Union Jack, the flag of Great Britain, which is a composition of the national flags of England, Scotland and Ireland. Wales were not included as they did not have a national flag at the time it was created. And a great big red dragon on the Union Jack would just look silly.

Tesco is awesome. I assume you or your parents own a independant grocer or butcher or similar high street convenience store. Guess what? That store aint as convenient as my local Tesco pal. Deal with it. I'm not entirely sure what your problem is with Tesco considering it is the greatest Grossing Supermarket in the UK and still maintains quality EVERYTHING at very competitive prices. If your family does not own a undercut "convenince" store, then I'm afraid you're just jumping on the blame bandwagon and clearly need a job to occupy your time.

It has just struck me that this entire thread has become incredibly dreary. It seems to be a stomping ground for ill informed, and apparently ill educated racists. Shame really.

TehCatZorD, I needed to call you out on this one. Your post just stuck out from the crowd so I felt it needed crushed into dust. Be sure to get back to me. Be sure also to read through your post to correct the majority of spelling / grammatical / factual errors in your post, which it will no doubt be rife with.

Long live Wales, and all Tescos that reside within.

To quote Goldhawks frankly delicious comment - You Numpty.

I think he was referring to the map used on Euro notes. The Great Britain used on that map stops about 25 miles short of the welsh border.

...Union Jack...

*Union Flag

It's only the union jack when on a ship. I can understand why you wouldnt know this normally, but it was on Doctor Who, so anyone who missed it deserves to be shot.

As this thread still exists, I may as well respond.

States aren't seperate countries; Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and England are.

Nothing to add to the thread other than, in general, the dude 117 is right. I also agree with my fellow crumpet-eater Rythm-Killer though.... maybe B.net aint the place man.

At least you don't have to put the EU or Fortess Europe. That would piss you off I bet.

As an advocate of European confederation I doubt I'd mind. I read an interesting factoid a while back which had the number of Europeans in favour of confederation/federation being larger than the population of Germany, the most populous member state.

Anyhow, I think this is just another example of non-Europeans being unprepared - quite understandably, mind - to deal with the complexity and passion involved in European identity politics. Be they Bretons, Englishmen, Catalans, Basques, Bavarians, Lapps, Transdnistrians or what have you, people here in Europe aren't really happy until they can define their country as they themselves see fit.

EDIT: Mein gott, I might not have posted if I'd read beyond page one prior...

I'm usually not too bothered about putting UK down as my country, but as stated, it would be nice to put Scotland down every so often.

There is a huge debate in some parts of Scotland that steriotypically, there is still a grudge held against the engish. I'm English, but I hate the graffiti at the end of my street saying: -blam!- da English, but thats digressing.

The United Kingdom isn't a country, its a constituant of 4 countries. They are England Scotland Wales and N. Ireland. All 4 are ruled by one leader (who many have something in common about the opinion of him). He lives in England... thus the world thinks that only England exists.

It gets annoying that only one country gets recognition but thas the way things go. As was also mentioned earlier, its the same as if we were to refer to N. America as N. America and noone recognised Canada or Mexico. Then Canada would probably feel like Scotland feels a lot of the time.

I understand dude. I live in Tampa fl. But for some reason its refered to as "Tampa Bay". Heck even our football team is called the "tampa bay buccaneers". Tampa bay consists of tampa, st. pete, clearwater, and a bunch of other crap towns.
I understand that this isnt the same as your problem, i'm just saying i can relate.
