I say this with respect and in hopes of understanding why this happened. Iam in no way trying to start trouble.

Ok, I know someone who was saying that the banshee took no skill to use. This is for the haloce PC. there is a banshee in the haloce pc game. Im not going to talk about if its skilled or not because thats not the point. He was banned for calling someone a noob. Ok, Why was he banned for calling someone a noob? I hear way worse on this forum and they dont get banned. This is in away dumb. To me it seems that some of the mods ban people when they say something that they dont like. I have posted things about halo2 in the halo2 forum and they got locked. They said nothing wrong in them. It was just that some of the mods didint like what I said. The point is, if your going to ban someone for saying noob. You also have to abn everyone else that calls other people noobs. And then you would have to ban the people who curse. Why are they not banned? And I know a mod who said this

"A lot of them have the same level of intelligence as the children in walmart.
Anyway, that sounds a bit rude, but I had to say it.
Just read this. perhaps then you'll understand why Bungie doesn't always give out info."

Thats a little worse then the word noob. Why wasent the mod banned? why is most of the stuff on here one sided?

Noob is not permitted by the moderators because it's an insult.

Insult=flame=against the rules.

Noob is used in a derogatory way 99% of the time, and since we're all here to have fun, we choose not to let ignorance ruin someone's day.

Well issint want the mod said a flame? I know lots of people on here that flame, why arent they banned? I just dont understand.

  • 08.20.2006 3:05 PM PDT

We have a rule about using that word, so he was banned for violating that rule.

People who bypass the blam filter are banned.

I would need to read what the mod said in context, but it doesn't seem like something we would ban a normal member for. There's no way it's worse than the n-word.

Flames are directed at individuals.

We put up with a lot of mild digs at the others, provided it doesn't get out of hand, but the word noob is used with such ignorance that it's become almost as vile an epithet as a racial slur.

If the people who primarily used the word used it only in jest, or as a self descriptor, I would have no problem with it at all, but it's used mostly to shoot down other people's opinions, and that ain't cool.

Why doesn't Achronos just add the "n" word to the filter list? Makes it a whole heck of a-lot easier to prevent. I mean he could add many different renditions of it...

And how long would that take? And how many variations of the word? And how many non-offensive words would be affected as well?

Because it's a moderator rule, not a Bungie rule. It was made on our own accord, and not by Bungie. As such, it's ours to enforce.

And we do enforce it. And it's not like that specific rule isn't listed all over the place. If people can't be bothered to read the rules, they can't scream about injustices when the rules are enforced.

When people use noob, its mostly direct to a person or a group of people. Almost 100% of the time people will get pissed and eventually the whole forum will go to hell with just a bunch of people saying noob. We wouldn't want that.

Why do people in ship mutinies always ask for "better treatment"? I'd ask for a pinball machine, because with all that rocking back and forth, you'd get a lot of free games.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words - "mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

Toast has issues with japanese shows that were voiced over for american television...

All you have to do is read the rules to know that n___ is not tolerated.

Your thought process is flawed. The problem isn't what's wrong with the mods; it's what's wrong with you.

I agree with Shishka. It's enforced. Trust me on this one. The blow from his banhammer still stings after i used it in a humourous manner in response to a troll. Rightly so aswell, if it's not allowed, it's not allowed, not even jokingly.

Think Tank I thought you were done with these forum!

Skillet was here and referred to himself in the third person.

I rarely use the "n" word...and when I do, it's directed at myself for doing something stupid and I never do it on these forums. So I never having a problem with it.

I suggest reading the rules, they are at the bottom of your screen...they also only take around ten minutes to read.

Read them, apply them and you won't see a blacklist screen for a week.

I have found some moderators to be overzeolous, but the ban on "noob" is not a controversial decision.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

The ban is pretty self-explainitory too, it just makes sense. Why are political and religious threads not allowed on the public forums? Because they will more then likely cause a thread to become heated, and people will start acting like idiots and flame each other. Same thing for the n-word. All it stands to do is inflame the society and cause people to bicker like little kids. Thats why it's banned, and thats why the mods are strict about it. It serves absolutely no constructive purpose. Be glad that Recon didn't see the post, because I know there is a special place on his Banhammer for people who use that word.

In your other post, you wondered why people can call something a "noob combo" and not get banned for it. Here's my take on it. They are using the word as a description of something in Halo2, the use of the plasma pistol and then the Battle Rifle. They are not calling someone that...because if they were then it goes from being a discription to a derrogatory term. And those are not permitted on the forums. Granted calling something that is on thin ice, but as long as it is not used to describe a person, then the mods tend to let it go, but they are always watching!!

Didn't we have this conversation via the pm? I even apologized to you for that statement.
Here is the post in in context. Personally, I don't see what I did wrong, perhaps it was a bit harsh, but that's it. I see a huge difference between what I said, which wasn't directed to anyone in general, and the usage of the n- word.
