A router is a device that lets you put many computers/gaming consoles in it when its connected to your modem so they all can connect.

A little box you buy that carrys firewall technoligy inside it, and depends which one you buy, i bought a linksys, didnt go very fast, bought new one = zoom. Anyways do you have a local CompUSA store near? Or Circut City, or BestBuy, buy a router froom one of those, ask for help, then try it.

Hm...he's posting here...wonder if he's connected.

Dont be a dumbass, when you go online with Halo it doesnt prompt you to connect to the internet when you have dial up, but when IE opens it prompts you.

That would be DivX. He's a little... strange.

Na, Im just a little, certified. Going for my Net+ in a few months.

AND you still havent told us what kind of interent connection you have.

I am having an awkwardly similar problem. I am able to view the available servers and whatnot...

but when I select one and go to join it, the screen says "Negotiating Connection to Server"

Then the screen goes dark and a pop-up appears saying "Unable to Connect to Server". What's causin that?

It's only been doing this for the last month er so

Do you have the latest patch? not sure if that would matter, but good thing to have anyway. You do not need the seperate gamespy application installed, I believe, as long as you can connect to the internet, it should work.

Firewalls shouldn't even matter, until you try to host games...neither should ports...so this is an odd problem.

captain booger, you have any firewalls? In your case ports do matter.

Yes, you do need the latest patches, if you don't have them, YOU CANNOT CONNECT. Except to servers running the same out-dated .exe as you.

Yes Pet0sh, i have the patches....unless you got one newer than 1.07, in which case, i am not even aware of it's existence...

As for the ports i have them set at 2302 and 2303. it's kinda funny because i thought that the port number referred to my connection to my ISP as 2302 is my home address....

not kidding! 2302-11th Ave S, Lethbridge Alberta Canada (Hate-mailers will be hunted down and murdered brutally........{to any and all relevant law enforcement, i said it only as deterant} .........go ahead, make my day.....punks!)...

yeah, so that's what i thought that was...before...then i come here and EVERYBODY lives at that address, i'm like WTF and.....yeah

With regards to my firewalls, i have meshed my Windows and F-Secure firewalls, but they've been like that for the last year and a half, so i don't see how or why the servers would only start blocking me in the last month.

WAIT, I have an idea!

I'll just uninstall everything, reinstall Halo, and not bother with the CE!

That worked for me back in January.....*he said as he bgan smacking himself over the head with his iPod that he finally figured out that iPodLinux doesn't work on because it's a 5th generation and the Back-up file doesn't work*

Well, that didn't work...

My Firewall's down and everything, and still nothin'!

as for that portforward thing we were talking bout earlier, whats the difference between TCP and UDP?

Which ports do you recommend?

Here's a possible answer:
CORRUPT HD.
Get some uber-scanner, and pwn those nasty spywares. Also, to the guy above M Kim, if you have -devmode in your command line, Halo will NOT let you join ANY server, and you will only be able to host LAN games.

They are different protocols - Halo is ports 2302 and 2303 UDP.
