"Whatever exists, whatever in creation exists without my knowledge exists without my consent. These anonymous creatures may seem little or nothing in the world. Yet the smallest crumb can devour us. Any smallest thing beneath yon rock out of men's knowing. Only nature can enslave man and only when the existence of each last entity is routed out and made to stand naked before him will he be properly suzerain of the earth."

That would definitely prevent double posting, but not bumping, since people would probably try to make sure they don't reply unless it is important so that they can bump just in case.

I'm torn on this idea. It seems good, and it simultaneously seems pointless. I'm also wondering about long guides, such as the Marathon guide in the Underground, which requires the topic creator to make several posts, one after the other. I'm going to hang on the fence with this one.

P.S. Please, never say "Please don't flame me." It usually means you don't think your idea is any good in the first place, or that it is deserving of flames (and remember that there is a difference between flames and criticism). If people flame, just ignore them, and let a moderator handle the problem. More attention is going to be addressed to that last part than to the idea itself.

It would be a good Idea, but I have to agree about the guides and stuff.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Besides what has been said by Mabian the only other problem I see is people having multiple accounts and using them to spam. Otherwise I like the idea.

Another thing I was going over. It seems this would help more in preventing people from double posting than it would in preventing people from bumping, though it would be a serious hassle to the person who wanted to bump to find he can't reply. A nice thing to think about.

Ultimately, it's an idea that seems to easy to get around, and though it would help prevent multiple posts, it would be better if we just punish the people who do it rather than editing their posts rather than find a way to prevent all forms of double posting. Not to mention that normal members would have to be able to have a way to get around it if their thread actually required more than one post (guides, or that very rare occasion where a member needs 10,001 characters), and by letting members bypass it somehow, it destroys the point of having a system that prevents double posts in the first place.

I've decided that I'm going to vote "no" on this. You did well, but there will almost always be problems with any idea, and in this case they just outweighed the benefits.

Most spammers just move from Thread to Thread, or so I've noticed. I don't really see much triple or even double postings out of offending members.

However, it's topics like this (ones that try to benefit the community) that makes it feel like eventually, justice will be served. It's good to see the consensus agrees that spam is a problem that needs to be solved. And eventually it might be solved, because the community wants it fixed.

The idea is good on paper, but in the long run, I don't see it stopping the Hardcore Spammers.

There's already a wait between making posts. Your idea won't stop the original post being spam, and if the original post is spam, then there's ample time for the mods to be informed before the spammer posts too many times. And bumping is just self-harm. Bumped threads get locked.

There's already anti spam filter that only lets you post like twice every 40 seconds or so. As for the idea it might help double posting but no bumping. People bump regardless of where they post.

Okay, i'm not sureif this has been thought of yet, but to reduce bumping, or double posting, maybe we can only post when someone else has posted after us. Like I would post, and I cant post again unless someone has replied, but I can still edit etc.

I dont know if this has been thought of yet, but hey, dont flame please. >_<

I haven't notice much of a problem with double posting. There is always the giant slingshot.

That would horribly hurt Fanfic artists, seeing as any stories more than the word limit, would have to wait for someone to post to post the rest of their story...

There's only so much you can do before it affects the normal members. We can't compensate for stupidity.

That is why they created this site.

Its a place where people post their fanfics, and also find and read others. my sister goes on it all the time. Andwho doesent reply to fanfic artists on B.Net? The minute someone makes a fanfic or story, its burried in hundreds of "Good job man!" or "Nice, keep it up" or "You are a genious" or maybe " You suck."

Actually, in most fan fics I've seen, there are hardly any responses...mine included. Not that I'm bitter or anything...No seriously I'm not. In fact, I love it when people don't post in my threads. It makes me feel warm and special.

Anyway (I'm back.) this idea just seems a little bit too constricting. As people have already mentioned, sometimes it is necessary to make a double post, and not just in fan fics. There are guides, theories(New Mombasa, Halo 3) and whatever else people can think of that is intelligent. I just don't see this working out very well.

I don't think it's a good idea. It may reduce double posts, but there have been times when I've used over 10,000 characters in a post and I need to post again so I can finish whatever I was writing.
