Subject: Halo 2 Vista: Mapmaking

Thinking of something witty to write here since 2004...

Hope the custom content won't be confined to just maps. I hope we'll be able to make new bipeds, weapons and vehicles like in Custom Edition.

I thought we were gonna get a mix between the depth and complexity of Unreal editor, combined with the user-friendlyness and ease of use as FarCry editor. This seems like its leaning more towards unreal. Either way, I still want it :P.

Love you Bungie!
Still playing Halo1 Custom Edition!

*wish could have vista*

well it looks good, but it will depend of what kind of modifications they make to the existing tool guerillia and sapien.. they need to be more user friendly, and a home made BSP modeller would be GREATLY appreciated

i don't know how far it is, so far, but having a vehicle, biped and object making ability coming with the dev tools would be awesome...

BSP EDITOR?!?! I didnt see them say anything about that, but they did say "create", If you will be able to "create" your own map, like farcry, then that would be awesome.

I SAY BUNDIE NEEDS to look into CRYENGINE Mapmaking, It is really user friendly and you could possibly release it to the XBOX and XBOX360 so people online could play some good custom games......look into it, Farcry is nutorious for its mapmaker....have one just like it but halo style and have TONS of content to use....Also Im not a big fan of using the mouse for shooting so release a usb xbox controller WITH it and Ill deffinitly buy it. Cause im not hunting for one of those.....hack free please!

i agree, once again the console owns pay the price for being console owners, i have nothing against pc owning fans, but Bungie should give the 360 fans a chance see how a 360 map making function will be like for themselves.

it wouldn't kill the team to make a trial mapmaker for H2 (i don't mind if the pc guys get it first, as they are more experience will it) but H2 for 360 is getting pretty stale and surly it would help to experiment now rather that later, e.g. while their is still plenty of time to kill before H3?

so Frankie?, oppinions?

No, Just No. CRYENGINE was really user friendly yes, but it sucked it the power. Using 3ds max, way better detailed maps can be made for halo. Using anything brushed based, is gonna ruin the map editor. It needs nothing but 3ds max, and gmax support. You guys think just cause it comes with a easy map maker, you ae gonna be able to make extremely awesome detailed maps? Look at this map for Halo CE.

Thats possible in 3ds max, and Gmax. Screw the cryengine. Its not halo material. Its not ment for halo. End of story. Hell no. Even if its easier, i bet we will see 1,528,321 different box maps from you guys, 18,272 different maps from nubs who think they are 1337, when really the map is just a box with some extrudes, and about 2,030+ awesome maps from us advanced modellers. I know i bought 3ds max for halo modelling (and a few other things) and im no gonna see halo be ruined by brush based mapping tools, and tons of noobs who make freaking box maps.

Don't don't keep up to date with technology news do you?

You can already use the USB xbox 360 controller on XP. And will be able to on Vista and be able to use it with Halo 2 Vista.

Also, later this year (or early next year, i'm not sure) MS are releasing a wireless receiver for the PC which will allow you to connect and use ALL wireless xbox 360 devices (headset, controller, stearing wheel -later this year) to your PC. This device will, of course, be useable on H2V.

Jees, there are a lot of fools on this thread.

Edit: Oh, one more thing! How are we going to be able to share our custom maps? Is it going to be all cool and integrated into bungie.net where we can browse maps and rate them and download them and stuff? Or will it be stupid and lame where we have to find all our own hosting and have to have a hundred different websites that repeat information and maps and we have to go off around the internet actively searching for a good map?

i admitted that farcry is nothing compared to the Halo engine... (i have seen picks of it but don't own farcry)
but if i kid make a 'box map' no one is saying you have to play it

If i remember correctly those were the exact tools used to create maps in Halo CE (Custom Edition). The name is not to be confused with Halo: Combat Evolved. So if you have ever created a map in Halo CE then I am guessing all this will be is basically Halo 2 CE, but hopefully a little more user friendly. The tools were very complicated in Halo CE.

Can you share maps on Xbox Live or even play these on the Xbox 360 or is this all for PC.

For anyone who mods Halo 2,
I am hoping this will also be able to edit stuff exactly like dothalo, not just be able to transfer stuff across maps. That is what Insolence is used for (except that it doesn't work for Relic and Gemini.) And i'm also pretty sure that they have a tool for Halo 2 to move stuff around on the map (I know that you can change spawn points hehe.)

This is only for Vista (a new OS) that is coming out late this year or next year. I am not sure.

We are getting Bungie's tools, but made a little more user friendly. Players can make stuff from scratch. It's not like current Halo 2 modding at all, where you grab an existing BSP or piece of scenery and place spawn points. You will even be able to make new weapons, vehicles, bipeds, skies, etc.
