If you don't have a graphics card(ie non-integrated) or you have one, but it sucks, don't complain.

I have a Radeon X1900XTX and it looks fine, albeit the textures and models are a little low-res when compared to the newer PC games, but that is to be expected with an Xbox port.

Yes. I would think that it would be a given considering it is called a GRAPHICS card and it renders the GRAPHICS of the game.

Did you think that upgrading your CD drive or mouse and keyboard would make the game look better or something?

Do you know your system specs? That would be helpful. Oh and pictures don't seem to work.

Yes, specs would help.

And this forum doesn't support pictures directly on the site, by the by.

Ah I see you edited. This forum doesn't like editing and adds returns/spaces, which messes up urls. Your pictures look like my old integrated graphics, with bland textures, and no support for armor color.

...and I suppose you can give him a brilliant, in-depth recommendation on replacement graphic cards/chipsets or further advice from a few screenshots and a post?

My advice would be to actually spend some money to build a decent PC rather than buying a Dell or HP or other name brand, or at least, not try to play games on said Dell, HP, or other name brand computer(possibly built by a local store?).

My recommendation for a new graphic card/chipset:

Since you are most likely using a Dell, HP, or other name brand computer, I'm assuming that it does not have a PCI-e port, which means that you will only be able to upgrade to crap video cards. I guess there are some decent AGP video cards, such as the X800/850 and GeForce 6800/7xxx. I guess it all depends on how much of a gamer you are, and what you hope to get out of games. I personally wouldn't recommend upgrading ATM until we have seen what DX10 cards have to offer.

Also, considering your Dell/HP/whatever has a cheap Intel processor, most likely less than 3 GHz, it would bottleneck any decent video card you buy.

I could be completely wrong about the Dell/HP/whatever assumption. But I don't know why anyone in their right mind would by a computer with integrated graphics and attempt to play games on it.

Hm. A nice, sound bit of advice, here, you've earned my applause.

However, he could very well be using a laptop, meaning zero upgradeability whatsoever. Remember that most integrated graphics are usually because said user is on a laptop computer, not on a desktop (though chipsets are becoming more prevalent on more recent desktops).

Hence, people who have laptops would much rather prefer to game on their laptop, chipsets and slow processors notwithstanding. Indeed, quite a few people use their computer for other purposes, and would prefer games as a nice "other" feature, but not as the main purpose, nullifying the need for a custom rig or even a desktop.

All in all, while it's good, sound advice, a lot of those assumptions could be easily rectified and less confusing if made with his specs in mind.

Argh. I'm fscking fighting about how to post in a forum. ¬_¬

Sorry, I skimmed over, so I may have missed something, but many(most) big brand companies, Dell, gateway, etc. don't even have AGP capabilities. That's right, it's the same motherboard as one which should have, only conveniently missing an AGP port for a few dollars cheaper...

Really, some info is needed if he wants advice.

Yes, more information would be useful in order to recommend a viable upgrade path for him, because making random assumptions about a persons specs doesn't really help. If he doesn't even have AGP, then he is truly screwed and has very little hope of getting good performance out of the game. The same goes for a laptop, which is something I wouldn't have considered. However, the fact that he is asking about upgrading his video card leads me to believe that he is indeed on a desktop because I believe that most people understand that laptops are fairly non-upgradable.

Hopefully Vista will rectify the problem of consumers buying PCs from companies like Dell, thinking they are getting a good PC, and in the end finding out that they are severely limited by their choice. Many people seem unhappy about the fact that they will need a mid-range PC to run Vista, but I think that it will be a step forward in terms of gaming, because people will then have the power to play many of the games if they want to, and could be introduced to a whole new activity that they never knew about before. To me, this seems like a great step forward for the PC gaming industry, because people with consumer-level computers won't complain that their new Dell can't play the games.

The only thing I don't like about technology is that keeping up with the very top of the high-end specs range is difficult. I feel like I just upgraded, and now I'm getting ready to buy a new DX10/Quad-Core rig in a few months.

Hm. There are those who do believe that laptops, especially some of the more recent ones, are upgradeable since they have been marketed as such. I believe Gateway has one such on the market, which advertises upgradeability...however, those types are mostly upgradeable only in the HD or RAM--considered standard on almost all laptops.

I'm not sure if Vista will ensure if all computers are exactly of the highest quality ever...Ultimate can run on a medium-end computer nowadays, such as an integrated chipset (yes, even some of the dreaded Intel Integrated GPUs support Ultimate) and a processor with a minimum 1.6 GHz clockspeed. However, considering the laptop market will always be 2 steps behind those of the towers, it makes sense that Vista can run on such low specs.

While Vista may be a step forward in the short term, I believe that unless M-dollar releases newer OSs, this "step forward" won't exactly help as much. OSs quickly become outdated as technology moves forward, meaning that while today's Vista will require higher-end specs, tomorrow, Vista might be old news and as stale as XP. M$ needs to keep releasing new OSs that push the latest technology forward to the main masses, not let it sit for 6 years the way they let XP go.

You seem to talk about laptops a lot. Are you using a laptop?

And what I meant with my spiel about Vista was that since a PC requires 128MB V-Ram and DX9.0c support(last I heard), it should allow more people to play games. Right now, a PC with only 128MB V-Ram and DX9.0c support can play games at low-mid specs fine, but in a year or two, it will be considered very low-end. By the time Vista is through and MS is ready to release their next OS, I doubt a minimum-spec Vista PC would be able to play the games that are released at all. And yes, Intel is making some new -blam!- Vista-compatable integrated graphics chips that are sure to disappoint and screw many people over when it comes to games. They aren't going to start pushing out anything decent in terms of graphics technology in the near future, because the average person doesn't need a good video card to browse the internet or make sad attempts at writing documents in Word.

And Microsoft doesn't need to release OS' more frequently in a business perspective. They've got about 98% market share or something, and there isn't really much of a threat from compeitiors, so they can take their sweet time and wait for the money to flow in, and not have to do -blam!- until the market is saturated and their profits go way down.

Again, specs would help us give a better recommendation of what to do: toss, upgrade or replace, etc.

If you don't know how, just go to Start, Run and type dxdiag and hit enter. Copy all the processor and Graphics information down.

The solution to your problem is, of course, to get a graphics card. Until we have your specs, we can't really recommend which graphics card would be the best choice for your computer, or if it would not be worth it on your current system.

It would be best if you could tell us which motherboard, processor, and RAM you have, as well. If you don't know this information, you can download Everest(Click for Link). It is a free program that will easily get the specs of your computer.

After downloading and installing, click the "Report" button on the Toolbar, click "Next," select "System Summary Only", click "Next", select "Plain Text", click "Finish". It will then find your computer specs and output them in an easy to read text file. Copy this text file and post it here on the forums. We will then be able to give you in-depth recommendations on an upgrade path.

Or you could just tell us which model(HP - Pavilion? s7500? d4000? Which model number) your computer is, so that we can look up the specs on the HP website.
