Vista is supposed to do what your describing. It let's the application interact directly with the GPU without having it go through the OS.

Sounds pwnage.

so basically your trying to make your computer into an xbox.....essentially an emulator.

uhhh, yeah, it's called DOS. And dont' worry because if you can wait, Windows Vista will solve a lot of those problems ;)

Okay, so we all know that Halo was poorly optimized for the PC. I also know that even though the Xbox is crappier than most computers, it still could run a game because all of its power was dedicated to it. Nothing running in the background or anything. This is the reason most consoles that are worse than PCs can still run the high-caliber of games. For example, the basic specs for the Xbox:

733MHz CPU
250MHz GPU called the "XGPU"
64 MB RAM at 200MHz DDR (lawl)

A computer 4 times as good as that would still have trouble with Halo PC windowed, minimum settings staring at a wall.

But what's the point of all these jambering-shenanagins?

Well, I had the idea, that somehow, somewhere, someone, could create or figure out a way to make your computer act like a console; as in it could dedicate everything to one .exe file. Maybe you start up your computer, right-click "Halo PC", then in the menu, hit "Run in dedicated mode" or something. Your computer would restart, running Halo. When you exit, your computer restarts again back in normal mode. Could this work? Am I just wishing for too much for people with noob pcs? Or, is it not that simple? Please do tell.

And if there is something like this, feel free to insta-pwn me and tell me the link.

NOOO! Not an emulator! That's illegal... I think... Anyway, you need to run a whole bunch o' stuff to run Halo.

what your trying to explain is basically an emulator. First of all you wouldnt be able to run it straight from dos, youd need to go through windows.Since you wanted to eliminate all of that background software running I'm assuming you wouldnt want to use windows, and for that youd need to re-write halo to run form dos somehow. Not going to happen unless you have bungie do it for you. It would be cheaper to buy 1000xbox's and 1000 copies of halo than to do that.

Meh. Like I said earlier, use the task manager, and close your antivirus if you're not connected to the internet. Either that, or go buy an Xbox 360 and a copy of Halo.
