yo check this -blam!- out I got ....

Halo 2, Microsoft's most prized Xbox asset and its biggest hope for success this Christmas, has been leaked onto the Internet just days after developer Bungie officially completed work on the game and announced that it had shipped it off to manufacturing, and nearly a month prior to its official US release date, November 9th.

The highly anticipated first-person shooter has appeared on various newsgroups and websites already, and its proliferation amongst the underworld of Xbox gamers downloading illegal software is likely to be swift and damaging.

Earlier today a number of websites using the popular BitTorrent file distribution format indicated that hundreds of users were downloading the game, which reportedly clocks in at just under three gigabytes in size. Early reports suggest that it's a PAL version of the game with French language dialogue and English subtitles.

Reacting to the news this morning, Microsoft slammed those responsible and described downloaders and people hosting the file as thieves, encouraging real fans with any information to come forward and help it track down the source of the leak. The company's statement follows in full:

"Microsoft has learned that a version of Halo 2 has been posted to various newsgroups and web sites. We consider downloading this code or making it available for others to download as theft. We are currently investigating the source of this leak with the appropriate authorities. Pending the result of our investigation, we do not have further comment. Microsoft takes the integrity of its intellectual property extremely seriously, and we are aggressively pursuing the source of this illegal act.

my jaw dropped in disbelief when i heard the news. it's like finding out that a friend was bruttally murdered. u just wanna find and torture the person who is responsible. words can't really describe the anger i feel. to have come so far with you, (anxiouly awaiting each weekly update, laughing at the quips and wisecracks, being wowed as new screens were revealed and at reading about how the game was progressing) and then to find out that some a&&#0le(s) have decided to cheapen the experience by pirating the game, distributing it as if it was some cool thing to do. *ahhhhhhhhhh!* this is indeed a dark day in gaming history. so whether you take action and search the dark corners of the web for the soulless vermin responsible or just simply avoid anything that even remotely hints of foul play, remember that our loyalty is to Bungie. to the hardworking men and women who have spent countless hours devoted to bringing you, not just the game, but the experience, that is Halo 2. so keep your eyes watchful, but also your heads lifted, 'cause it's not much longer my friends.

greetign bungie. i too am very frustrated with the recent occurance. i hope the situation is resolved very quickly, and that nothing happens to the halo2 release date...it would be horrible for halo2 to turn into what happened to halflife2.

i myself have done some work, although im a newb with computers. i jsut googled a few things, and linked, and searched, and the such. and i found some pictures...

for instance, i found some pics...the kid took a picture of the television screen, adn you can clearly see his reflection in the glass...
i have reported these images to the piracy site, and hopefully this helps them.

i dont want to post it on here, casue i might get banned. heck, its a pirated image.

hopefully, this small detail will help capture these criminals.

I remember a long time ago a map for CE I found also had a "halo 2 leak". It was just a video of some multiplayer things, some stuff I had already found out from an OXM issue. I hope this stops, I mean can't people just camp outside a store for once to get their copy?

What a major disappointment. I'm going to need to avoid my favorite Halo sites until 11/09 when I get my special edition tin. I've waited this long to enjoy the experience - I don't want to run into any spoilers. Please DON'T participate in the download or distribution of illegal game copies! It only hurts the gaming community. Rent or buy them.

How does this kind of thing happen???? I guess if they can get Harry Potter books ahead of time then no one is safe. Very disappointing. Support great game makers like Bungie. Don't you remember the first time you brought home your Xbox and turned on Halo? Like nothing before! You can't drop fifty bucks for such a great experience??? Sure we've all been burned by over-hyped crap game purchases before (Matrix anyone?). But c'mon, have a little loyalty to those companies that have a history of making our gaming experiences so great!

If you know anyone who is playing a copy of Halo 2 - explain to them that it is not only illegal, but is ruining gaming for EVERYONE!

Remember that wonderful little white box called the Dreamcast? Great graphics, innovative titles (Seaman, Typing of the Dead, Chu-Chu Rocket) and oh, yeah, the ability to make copies of games. Remember seeing the DC going for 50.00 - what a shame! If you love games, dont' let that happen to the XB.

The investment in new games can be steep - I understand. So play the demo, rent it, buy it uesd - but give SOMETHING back to the companies that make this all happen!

I discovered another Torrent that was streaming the Halo 2 PAL DVD in lots of little 45 KB sections at Torrentreactor. I just fired an email off to Microsoft about it... let's see how long it takes for that to be slagged.

a quick word before i go to bed. i tip my hat to all those of you actively searching sites and sending IPs and such. i personally don't want to run the risk of coming across something that may ruin my experience, but i do support my troops. so keep up the good work.

LMFAO

You do realize you can copy ip's till you drop dead and they cant do anything about it! You could have easily copied anyones IP and thats exactly what they will argue.

M$ & Bungie will have to go through the proper channels to get peoples ip's, someone just posting a list of ip's will not get anyone in trouble. I realize some of you people are young, but the older peoples should know better.

thehunter1320,

..by logging onto that torrent you broke the law as well, I hope you realize it. If that torrent was being monitored as soon as you logged in your ip would have been logged as well. And seeing I know how BT works....by connecting to the tracker for 10 minutes as you say - you yourself just downloaded bungie's intellectual property.

Way to go mr. l33t

It's totally legit, been on CNN and featured in Wired, they also have Ipod's and Dell PC's for free! Check it out! BTW, I have done my part, I sent in several channels and their respective servers under mIRC who are distributing the pirated copy, I hope we catch those bastards!

If you using BT then your ARE sharing, because oyu are sending out parts of the file as they come in.

Whya re you even posting in this thread hypocrit? No need to IP spoof as you say if you arent doing anything illegal. And if you are - refer to my hypocrit remark

This is a nice sig. for all who want to stop the piracy. Use this on forums and maybe the downloaders will be scared by the number of people opposing them.

Speaking of TorrentReactor.com

There are two torrents on that site (for Halo 2 PAL)

The links the InfoPages on them...

http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/view_32460
AND
http://www.torrentreactor.net/torrents/view_32395

Someone from Bungie should use Azureus (the BitTORRENT Java Client) and start the transfer to check the IP's on those downloads, I wouldn't suggest anyone else check because just being on the transfer will show your IP, meaning some other person doing the work (of catching pirates) could post YOUR IP and not know youre not just anyone else trying to get an illegal copy (why would they know anyways?).

Best wishes to Bungie (you'll get rich anyway ^_^).

People just have to watch out for what they read until they get it, I see spoilers all over the net - but they are clearly marked.
