I've been noticing a lot of people posting about how the loyal Halo community will personally rise up and kick this pirates ass.

Posted by: Sathe Athear
All Microsoft/Bungie need to do is, is when they find one of these bastards, they need to 'accidently' post the said persons details on these forums (Name, Address, Phone Number, etc.) and the loyal Halo 2 community would do the rest :)

First of all... You speak for yourself because I wouldn't leave my living room to kick his ass if the guy ended up living next door to me. Thats not my job, I don't get paid to do that, and it wont benefit me in any way shape or form from doing that...

Secondly, what's with people pledging an oath of loyalty to a corporation... Thats some scary -blam!- man especially if that corporation is Microsoft. I love Bungie and I love their games... I've played through every single one of them except for Minotaur. But I'm not going to swear my loyal to to them and declare, "Reporting for duty sir!" like a freakin' zealot...

Halo got posted to the internet (such is the video game business) If you look at the list of other torrents on the sites that have Halo 2 you can find about 70 other xBox games... Where is the outrage over those... Everyone swears up and down that they hate pirates but I'm sure every single one of you have downloaded some kind of intellectual property that you didn't own at one point in time (be it mp3s or movies or even just installing a copy of something a friend had on their computer) Does that justify this situation, of course not, but trust that Microsoft is on this like white on rice... for Christ's sake these are the same people who's counterfeit protection on their Windows Manuals is more elaborate than anything you would ever find on US currency...

-Klown

P.S. Yes I know I just registered today but that doesn't mean my point is any less valid and that most of you are getting worked up about something (a.) you have no control over and (b.) something that doesn't concern you (I pre-ordered Halo 2 and none of this will affect me grabbing my copy on Nov 9th and playing it till my grades are driven way below sea level and my friends start talking about me in the past tense)

First of all to think that this game would have never been pirated is absurd. Everygame out there is copied and put on the net for people to download. Whether you agree with this point or not it doesn't make it stop. If you don't want to read spoilers then stay off msg boards where they talk about those sorts of things. And lastly, and im sure this will come to great suprise to most of you, THERE ARE OTHER THINGS IN LIFE THAN HALO AND HALO 2. Go get a life and stop acting like soldiers in some heroic battle to save bungie, I got news for ya Bungie and Microsoft will still make money, they have presold over 1 million copies of this game already. I doubt any of those preorders are going to cancel if they found a copy to download, because to be able to run it they would have to have a modified xbox in the first place and if they ordered it before im sure they knew what they were in for.

Bungie, it sucks that someone leaked this and now it will potentially hurt the very successful launch of your highly anticipated game and I hope everyone here reading these posts purchases what will undoubtedly be an awesome experiance for all of us.

Yeah I suscribe to OXM but I just had to pick up the latest issue of XBN for the new single player screenshots. New enemy pics! Woooot! Not that it's even close to being a secret, but I won't give any info for those who don't want to know anyway.

I still find it stupid, that these companys still produce `burnable` cd`s etc. Why Microsoft can`t put something in the initial coding of a game, to stop pirates, is beyond me. Hopefully, next gen machines, will use a different form of disk, that has a secret coding, stopping these scumbags in their tracks. 26 days is so gonna be painfull, but well worth it!.

As far as I know, you can even get a basic version of Linux and the full version of MAC OSX to the xbox.

For the leak, i think nobody could avoid such a disasster. Just think logical.
About 15 years ago, there was no big promotion or any other campaign for a video game.
In the world of Today promoting video games is quite normal, everyone who got to the theaters know halo2, everyone who read a simple xbox magazine knows it.
So, to develop a perfect game, a sequel to halo 1 of course, you need an enormous summ of employees. Most often those who programmed the software never think of leaking it anyway, because its there income that depends on how the game is sold on the world market. Everything is some how very "secure" or "safe" when the game is just programmed.

But when a software goes gold, it usually ships to big DVD producers, and it enters its final stage. So the software is copied millions of times, the process of making halo 2 dvds should have already started 1 week ago. Also those big concerns making the DVDs habe employees, but however, they dont know what hard work was spent on the software they are copying, so they are the one who leak it. They just get a retail copy of the game and then they make an image via a pc-xbox connection. Like already said, with a mod chip everything is possible. When they finished doing the image, they upload it to the World wide web, to ftp servers first. Then they let some "special" friends have it download with highspeed from these servers and test, whether the image is fully functional.

After this, a few people have a complete copy of the image and they start sharing it via ed2k network, or bittorrent, irc. In a time period of 1 week the file is distributet to the world, everyone can download it, thousands already did.

This happened already serveral times, also to halo 1, not for the xbox release, but for the pc release there was a beta probably uploaded by a gearbox employee.

Or just think of Half life 2, same thing, just a dirty leak. Valve is a great company, they have earned millions of money by selling half life, how ever the leakers where caught by the F.B.I.
. The leak of half life 2 happened, when it still was in an very early stage of development, so this led to an enormous delay. Halo 2 was already gold when it was leaked, so we can be happy, that it wont be delayed any more.

I really liked halo1 and the books that where written to the video game, im looking forward to halo 2, im really excited about the story, about how the master chief will make his way through towards the end of halo2, and finally im looking forward to, how halo 3 will be announced and halo2s end.

i say: only go to these forums. that way, you are less likely to be told about what is gonna happen in Halo2 because it is the actual site.

Couple things: 1) People are loyal to Bungie and want to help them because they are really cool people who are giving a lot to the community. After you pay 50 bucks, they're gonna let you download free maps, weapons possibly, and are setting up a really cool stat system. I love Microsoft, they're going to take over the world, and I'm going to be there, so BAM! 2) Just because every game is being pirated doesn't mean anyone has any right to do it. Its not Bill Gates that will lose that much money over pirated games, its the people of Bungie, who have put thousands of hours of hard work into this game. It really sucks. 3) There is a lot of anti-piracy work being done, its just that theres also really smart people working to pirate games and movies.

Atention on Deck! Waiting for Orders sir! Lets track down these bastards and crucify them. Bungie, this has angered me and my friends (we work in a hospital lab) Could you use some Chalmydia or prehaps HIV samples to inject into those who have done this? I love your work and truely hope that with the support of the 7th Column and others you will contain the outbreak. Keep you chins up lads.

Ah and for the idea of some how locking the xboxes via xbox live, i can just say the following:

1. When you wanna play halo 2 leaked, you need a modded xbox.

2. Every box that has connection to xbox live is automatically checked for any hardware specific changes, all modded xboxes are banned for lifetime, by there initial serial number.

You sound suprised.. it happens to almost all games. Fifa 2004 is out already too on the net. If Microsoft made the xbox protection better there would be no modchips and no pirated games. It's just the way it is today... everything gets pirated.

Yeah unfortunetly it is VERY easy to lock the hard drive. Clever sons of b****** I don't think however that it is an easy task to play xbox live without an official disc. Locking the drive just keeps them from knowing that you are modded. You would need the software on the drive to play a burned game so it wouldn't work.

they try to get out of $50 by downloading it do a disk and now they have to pay another $100 for a new xbox to play hlo2 online. Great!!

Ah im angry know .

Gonna read now, anyone know Josef Mengele?
Im reading a biography of him, because i was very intrested of the WW2, since we ended this big chapter last week, next tuesday, im going to watch "Der Untergang" in theater with my school class here in germany.
Im always wondering, if we'll see skin heads when watching this movie, it's very strange, that i saw a group of them comming out of the theatre, the movie was currently showed oO.
I mean, why should they watch a movie, that describes the end of the -blam!- regime?

Cant only write about halo2 in this forum, it somehow gets bored ^^

no, the reason why Halo 2 won't be delayed and why Half-Life 2 was delayed is because Half-Life 2 wasn't done when it was stolen. They used the hacking as a cover up, I don't care that its been delayed, better to get it finished then to have a crappy game. Same thing happened with Half-Life: They were about to release it, but they realized it wasn't anything special, and redid it. They spent like a year and half remaking it and it is probably the best pc game to date. The proof was in the stolen code, people who downloaded it said that a lot of AI was unscripted, and that a lot of levels were not finished.
