keyboard/mouse is the best.

I played xbox with a controller, and I went to the pc, and I love the pc more. The mouse as stated is much more accurate.

it takes a while to learn but it is much more accurate. Mice are also less expensive, I got a good opitcal mouse for $10, microsoft.

I used a keyboard/mouse for xbox for a game at my friend's house, I fell in love. It's very easy, and more accurate

If xbox 360 had a compatible mouse/keyboard, I would use it.

If you use a joystick, prepare to get pwnd by the people in the maw using keyboard/mouse. you will get slaughtered

I actually don't have a preference :D

all the time i've had halo 2 for xbox, i've been playing FPS games on my pc as well, so i'm really used to both types

Currently, though, i'm more used to my keyboard and mouse setup, because i sold my xbox a while ago :(

It is a hell of a lot easier to aim with a mouse than it is with a joystick, especially if you aren't used to a stick. I've played on my friend's xbox with a controller, and I got whupped 50-9 because I couldn't aim. When we played hpc, I beat him 50-36. Most people have computers, so they have some experience with KB/mouse.

I like mouse better but once again, you should have support for both.

RIP Halo 2.

So I assume that controller users get the same level of autoaim/magnetism people do in Halo 2 Xbox? And mouse users get none?

I button mash all the time with my fingers even if I am using a contoller I find it easier and my fingers move faster then my thumbs. So your theory does not work. I almost always out button mash my twin brother who always button mashes with his thumbs now tel me that u can't button mash faster with ur fingers

imo, this would ruin the multiplayer aspect of H2V. give them autoaim in SP, but in MP, leave it out or face ruining the online aspect of the game.

if we have to use controllers on the box, then you gotta use the keyboard mouse on the pc, simple as that.

Let grunts Sleep!!!

I think joystick works better even though I've never played on a computer. The controls are always right in your hands, not spread apart along a space.

  • 08.23.2006 10:56 PM PDT

Personally, since I've been born and bread on a keyboard and mouse playing Doom, it seems like the more comfortable tool for first person shooters, but it's always driven me crazy that I don't have a joystick whenever I come accross a great third person shooter or flight sim style game. And I think since Halo 2 has elements from all three, it's a gret oppertunity to bring the tools that make you feel the most comfortable, with the areas they feel best. It'd be nice to be able to run in guns blazing, mouse in hand, then jump in a Banshee or Ghost and whip out your joystick, or the other way round, it's just nicer to be able to accomodate any style of gameplay within a game with the device of your choice.

You know, somehow... I suspect this might not have been a good way of comparing controllers to keyboards.

Call me crazy.

How about support for both keyboard and mouse, and a setting for auto-aim which can be on or off. Then the server can force the auto-aim to off if it was a war server or w/e.

There must be AutoAim. Without it, every shot is as difficult as a no-scope. Sure you can BR someone 4 times in the head, but you sure can't no scope them 4 times in the head easily. This is because there's no autoaim on teh noscopes...

well duh a will controller... but i like mouses better... i like the accuracy it affords.. but i hate how u cant move at different speeds.. which is why i like joysticks for that... anyway pc>console... the reason teh who is gonna pwn......

  • 08.24.2006 1:54 AM PDT

RIP Halo 2.

The joystick vs controller argument is so pointless. There's a reason PC games don't have autoaim and console games do - a controller will never be as accurate or as consient as a mouse.

Keyboard/Mouse is undeniably more accurate... but controllers are WAAY more comfortable and it means you dont have to crouch over a desk. I hate sitting at a desk to game. Id rather play casually. Plus, I can never navigate my way around keyboard buttons while gaming.

SO, controllers for the win because they are cooler. (They have trigger buttons for triggers for crying out loud) And I can flop down on the sofa and play on a big ass TV.

Keyboard and mouse should only be used for what God intended them for... looking up hardcore P0rn on the internet.

BEST GAME EVER!!!

Does the Logitech Rumblepad 2 count as a Joystick. It looks exactly like a PS2 controller. Anyway if it is a joystick then JOYSTICK ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if anyone has read this article. It discusses the variation from joystick to K/M and 360 to PC respectively using Live Anywhere.

This is ridiculous. Other things being equal, Keyboard/Mouse slaughters controllers because of the mechanics involved. The Keyboard/Mouse player has much more precise aim and can turn about a zillion times faster. There is no getting around this.

Keyboard and mouse is definently a more faster combo than any controller, an experience player will always outpower the controller (in case autoaim is off)

My key config for Halo CE is:

Keyboard:
"W" - Forward
"S" - Backwards
"A" - Strafe Left
"D" - Strafe Right
"TAB" - Switch weapon
"Shift" - Melee
"Ctrl" - Crouch
"E" - Use/Swap/Exchange
"F" - Flashlight
"Space" - Jump

Mouse:
LMB: Fire
RMB: Throw Grenade
MMB: Zoom

Works really well and definently faster than a controller, i've played with a controller and it just felt kinda slow and stone-ageish...
With that setup, my fingers are all convienently placed on the keyboard, I dont have to move them much to do anything, it's all very natural and fast.
Also, Left Mouse Button finger moves faster than any thumb.

So yeah, with the same skill level, Keyboard+Mouse beats controller, it's plain obvious the H2V team just didnt have that much skill as H2X team.

Anyways, that's my opinion and my own personal experience.
