Just an idea i had after sifting through countless pages of bickering.

I'd like to see a "vote to kick" option on these forums. That way if someone insists on being a jerk (or just refuses to stay on topic), everyone could collectively agree to get rid of them from that particular thred.

If this idea does'nt seem feasible, then may i suggest a "mute poster" option, where you could choose to block posts from a particular person. This would be a great way of bypassing pointless posts.

Just a thought, tell me what you think....

Then people would vote those who they simply don't like. It won't matter if they're doing anything wrong.

If I go into a thread full of flamers and say: "Please don't flame each other, use PM's instead of spamming."

What will they do? They'll vote to get rid of me, naturally.

Though with some tweaking, I could see this idea maybe working out. I do like the sound of a "mute" option (pardon the pun.)

I see that as being easily and horribly open to abuse.

What about they are muted only on your account and everyone else can see their posts exept for those who have blocked them. (That makes no sense, I know)

What about the spammer who has taken the time and violated the rules by creating multiple accounts?

Dosen't the soul take care of that stuff? If so, upgrade him?

I see your point, then what about the "mute poster" option? I see no real way for that to be abused. Yes, yes?

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

That would never work, If you got a huge group that hated one person, he would always have his posts deleted.

You could have a credibility system (a karma if im not mistaken) where you could have people leave positive points if the person if they think they do a good job, or nagative points if they are being an ass. Just to make it fare, you should only show the karma on their profile, and each person would have to give the reason (in a category) for the point. This has already been discussed and there are both good and bad aspects to it (we dont want to give power to the forum cops).-HH

I remember suggesting years ago the idea of a personal (for each member) "ignore" or "kill" list.

Similar to the PM block, only it would work in the public forums. If a member places (for example) that Recon guy on their personal "blacklist" then anytime that loudmouth Recon posts, that member never is bothered with Recon's crap. Ninja blacklists would add the member to a "global ignore" list. That way, the blacklisted could still see the forums, and reply all they want, but nothing would show up and bother the "rest of us".

There's a couple of problems that were pointed out when I suggested that. First, by allowing a globally blacklisted user to post, but just hide their posts means that when they come off of the blacklisting, all of that garbage can and will show up. It also means that they are impacting the servers by posting and then requiring the system to go through the effort of "hiding" their activities. Easier to just kick them off in the first place.

And that is the main problem with any sort of personal "ignore" "hide" or "kill" list. It's a ton of processing on the server to give each member their own customized version of the forums.

There is also the fact that sooner or later, you would see what someone posted when they are quoted by someone who is not on your "ignore" list. And if you have ever listened to a conversation where you can only hear some of the people talking, you know how annoying it can be. It would be even worse with having to explain...."I'm ignoring that loser, so I don't see their part of the discussion".

The upshot was that it is far easier to see someone who is breaking the rules and to report them to a moderator and let us do what we've promised to do. That way everyone benefits from the time and effort that it took to report the misbehaving member.

I see what you are saying. To heck with you for your wisdom, TO HECK I SAY!

I think that would be ludicrous. There are people out there that would select to kick someone just because it's enjoyable to see their mis-fortune. But I am not in a postition to judge, as I am rather new to these forums.

No. That system would be misused and abused. And muting posts would make you oblivious to something the muted might have said and you might say the same thing and make yourself look kindof dumb... And something like that would encourage you to feel as though you are better than others. And everyone would be in a constant fear before posting worried about getting kicked.

As true with all feedback type systems, including Xbox Live. My friend has a 33% likeness rating on Xbox Live (great guy, by the way) because some group of jerks didn't like some opinion he had. Whoo.

However, a working "Reputation" rating would be cool. But only with positive options. Such as "This user is a good user." So if people didn't think they were a "Good" user, then they'd stay at a low approval rating.

No. If you break someone's feelings they can just get all of their friends to "Vote to kick." People always want to get retribution for lame things.

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

I think they should just make it so the thread creator can delete posts. I've had alot of my threads locked not only because I'm dumb, but because two people randomly entered the thread and started fighting.

Nah. Example:

Anyone who goes to The Flood hates L8te runnr. Most people whould vote to "boot" him off, when he doesn't break any rules.

Except, of course, using another account to avoid blacklisting (his another account got BaNt). Which resulted in his BaNtnEsS.

Or.. You could just have multiple votes against someone turn on a little red light for the moderators (uh, that could come out a bit odd) for them to go "Check this guy out."

That could also come out a bit odd as well.

If people would just obey the rules... this wouldn't ever be a problem.

I don't like the kick idea, it would lead to more bickering, new threads about bickering, and so on. The vote for "moderator notice this odd thing" is a better idea, if someone was breaking the rules, it would be easier to do this than spamming the mods. Although, there would have to besevere consequences for those who misuse a feature such as this.

For the record, i'd piss my self silly if there was an Armatik action figure.

Then what about the idiots who don't read the rules and don't know about these severe consequences.

Of course, they will suffer the severe consequences.

2B || !2B - Why don't you look Inside the Machine?

It would be abused...like anything else that that held little bits of power that were given out to the community as a collective were. People are generically dumb, they will stay that way until they either realise it through self-discovery...or until someone smacks them and tells them other wise. Since I don't have a "Smack User in the Face" button, nor do the Ninjas, that when prompted would have a device reach out of the Monitor and smack the person in the face. I am more in likely going to say that the vast majority of users here wouldn't have the brains to use it properly, respectively, & responsibly.

I wish I was retired like Recon so I could write essays on bnet, but I'll just stick to my short and sweet method.

This option never works, especially if the trouble maker is "popular" on the forums with other users. That's why we have no rights on bnet, because there is only one person with power, Achronos (not including the moderators).
