They search the forums you do, stopping to take a look at the threads which seem interesting (as both a member and a moderator) and the ones that look like they could be breaking a rule. They also get to the naughty threads by helpful members who send them the links.

Side note: Threads concerning the community belong in the Septagon.

Yea yea yea, I know, but I was more curious as to how they looked at the Halo 2 forums...

don't worry, can you delete threads? Or move them?

Only the administration here and the moderators can do that.

How do the Bungie forum moderators decide which forums in New Mombasa to look at? I mean, do they use a search engin on the body of the forum or is it the title of the forum? I'm really curious to this because such forums with the Golden Warthog (or lack of one) and ilovebees seem to attract more moderator attention...

They don't search for anything they can moderate wherever they want they don't have any certain place that they need to moderate.

I've often wondered why moderators are'nt more active in these forums. By that i mean, they dont do alot of posting other than the usual "this thred has been locked" or "you have been blacklisted".
I undestand that they are here to do a job, I just think that if I had to be here reading all this stuff all the time, I would do alot of posting.
I would like to here they're opinions on many of the subjects posted. I wonder if they have inside info that they are'nt allowed to share, or they just are'nt allowed to spend there time posting they're opinions.

They do post, and their posts are often followed by many members who quote them and display much interest in only the mods' post. Maybe you aren't looking in the right places for them.

We didn't become moderators by posting a lot. I'm still as active as I was before I became a moderator (or a moderator became me).

It's not like all of just moderate a single forum, and we don't read through all threads. We(at least, I do) just browse thread that give us a bad feeling etc. In general, we browse around a lot, hence the reason why we don't post that much, we don't always have the time.

Bungie.net is like a city. And we moderators are the ninjas that jump from shadow to shadow, from rooftop to rooftop (because we have a better view from there), looking for crime. And sometimes we jump over a particular alley, and in that alley a helpless woman gets robbed, so we jump into the alley and slice up the criminal, swift and silent.
We patrol this City. But due to the size of it, we can't knock on every door and see how the citizens are doing. So we patrol. Or as the Tick would say it: MORNING PATROL!!!!!

I hear ya dude, just sounds a bit boring is all. Do you get paid?
I'll just rest assured that behind every shadow, lurkes a well trainned ninja. And make sure that I am never on the receiving end of that BLADE!

The reality is that it makes (at least in my experience) my wife roll her eyes and ask me when I am going to do something useful around the house.

Yea, I get that from my wife from just posting on this site.
Ahh the eye roll, making women look silly for over three hundred years. ; )

You could be mean and say, "Get a life." But I wouldn't recommend it.

If I only had a nickel for every time I get asked that.... well, I would have more money than I've gotten from this gig. Even if I was only asked once.

Yea, well at least you get to have those cool avatars.

SPOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!

I think its to the mods credit that they don't post all the time. Usually its the above "locked" or "warning", but sometimes its actually an insightful and helpful comment. That means they are actually doing their job, and aren't concerned about their own personal standing within the community. If they were to actually care about their popularity, they would always be posting to try to make us like them. I wouldn't mind that, but they still do their job well and are obviously pros. Maybe we should petition Bungie to try and get them some financial compensation, then Recon's wife would consider his mod JOB useful.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

I just browse as I always did. I post in the Septagon for leisure and drop in to New Mombassa, Halo 3 and Optimatch to play moderator.

I do not post as much as I once did, though I find that I post more of my opinions and personal affairs than some of my fellow Ninja's. So far I have only been mistaken for a Bungie employee once; when I speculated upon what may be in the upcoming novel - now I have to put emphasis on the fact I am just a fan with no insider knowledge.

It was an easy transition for me, though. I was at a point where I wanted to help the community and saw no benefit from flaming/spamming, I still act as I did pre-Ninja.

HAHAH! Really off topic, but this is too good an opportunity... My host sis has a flour bag she calls The Tick

Ohh and do the Moderators make their own Forums? (I think, btw, that these individual discussions are the Forums, correct me if I'm wrong, please)

It's volunteer work.

Volunteer work? So, does that mean that in a résumé you can count hours spent here as voluntary work at Bungie.net?

Oh man that would mean If i ever became a moderator i wouldnt have to tutor kids next year to get voulenteer hours. How sweet would it be to gain them for helping the B.net community?
