We've gotten a bit away frpm the originasl posters thoughts... the idea that Matchmaking will suffer because of Xbox Halo 2players going to the Vista version.

I wouldn't worry that much. From the reviews I've read of people who have played Halo 2 Vista in Germany this week... it has a long way to go. The Vista release (consumer release at least) is going to be Jan. 2007 at the earliest.

And, yes, people will stop playing Halo 2 just naturally. That's just a fact. There are few games that have been able to keep their popularity up for years and years. And now that we are heading into a world with 3 next-gen consoles (all with online play) AND the PC market getting some interesting tweaks, Halo 2 is just going to lose steam.

Well, I'm against Halo 2 on Vista, but if it was for XP i would get 4 copies!

What? Play a game? FOR FUN???
This concept of fun confuses and infuriates me!

Dude, that's not going to happen for a long time. When Direct X 10 comes by, the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are going to look like baby toys.

Ah, but Kim, the PS3 has been proven to be the most expensive doorstop in production. In fact, I doubt that it work even work as one.

It's because that this thread was obviously a moved topic that was removed from New Mombasa and to here, the Maw.

The PS3 -- a new innovation in doorstep technology.

We've been here since you left.
We left before you came.

I've had my share of PC, and after switching over to a Mac, I don't think I'll go back. Theres just too many things bogging down PC. Hopefully Bungie makes a Halo 2 Mac.

For a boxer, that guy has small hands. Anyone else notice that?

Anyways, on the topic at hand. I'm a PC user, always have, always will. I've rented an Xbox a time or two to play some of the games (the fact that they don't always release Xbox games for PC really pisses me off). I'm glad that Halo 2 is coming out for PC. Since there haven't been a whole lot of worthwhile PC games released in the last little while (IMO)

I like the Xbox for the fact that it has some original and fun games (mechassault 1 & 2, and Burnout) But I have to sit really close to the TV because compared to a PC game, the resolutions are crap.

in reply to the question asked in the subject of this post...

NO! YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

It's a bad idea.

If we want H2 on PC at all, it's either now on XP or we'll be waiting till 2009 while microsoft continues to iron out the bugs that they've been breeding for the last 3 years that they've been OVERDUE!

I don't think they will. Mac has a small userbase, and most of them aren't gamers anyway. Besides, you can just install bootcamp or whatever, unless you're afraid of all the spyware, adware, and viruses that all Mac users I know claim PCs to have.

Anyway, I'm from a family that's upper-middle class, so getting Vista isn't any big deal, and besides, my computer can already run Halo at full settings at 1280x1024 and have a framerate always above or about 60, so I think I can run H2V decently well. I think it's a brilliant idea.

If you don't think its fair that h2v will have more goodies than h2xbox, think about this. H2xbox came out years ago. If people have waited this long to play halo 2 because they don't own a console, they have just as much right to play it as you do. Also, there is no way you could get the h2ek to work on an xbox360. You cannot use the software, you cannot use 3ds max, or maya, or xsi on an x360. Therefore, you cannot make level geometry, weapons, vehicles, scenery, or devices. There is no flexability with editors on consoles. Even if you did get a farcry-esque editor, its very very limited. Nothing compared to what the h2ek will be able to do, and what the hek can do now.

An xbox360 is pretty good. Better than most pcs today. However, it will stay the way it is until the next generation of consoles comes around. PCs are upgradeable. They out perform consoles the week after they come out. If people are going to pay for high end systems, they should be able to get a game that uses they hardware.

Unlike Halo PC, chances are you're going to have to spend an enormous amount of money in order to play and run Halo 2 for Vista.

You're going to have to pay for or upgrade to a decent mid-high range computer that can run Halo 2, which will cost several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on what you want to do. Then comes the cost of the operating system, Windows Vista, which will cost a rough guestimate of $200-400. Then comes buying the actual copy of the game. The cost of doing all this will likely turn off many of the casual Halo 2 players from playing H2 Vista.

That's why I've started saving up! I do have trouble in matchmaking lately but I think Vista will end up being superior to the Xbox version, if your computer can handle it. And if you're into content creating like me, this'll be heaven on a disc.

A lot of people will stay with the XBox Live version because in many ways it has benefits such as everyone having voice, better matchmaking and no n00b admins banning people who pwn them ;). However the PC version will have great custom maps.

Anyway I like both PC games and Console games, in the end they each have benefits. As an example a good developer can make a great game on console that could match some of the newest games to market several years after the consoles release, thats soley because they know the quirks and tricks to best exploit the console. While some people speculate that the 360 is designed with DX10 in mind im not sure about that, maybe they mean that in the aspect of it having most of the features but with a different API. PC games are normally good online (offline they have no real advantage over console games if you are any good with a joystick) because you can choose who you wish to play, which server to play on and clans tend to work better. The other thing of course is some people are not skilled enough to use a joy stick and others are not good with a mouse. I find myself that im much better with mouse and keyboard, but I can still play with a joystick, im just not a killing machine with one :P.

The release of H2V will not be a problem, most people who have it for Xbox Live now will keep playing it on Xbox live, especially as it provides such a good intergrated interface such as the clan system etc.

Yep. Just about all of the games of the "pixel pissing contest" generation have been technically more advanced graphically, but inferior gameplay wise to their predecessors. I would put UT2003/4, Doom 3, Quake and Halo 2 in this category, with UT and Doom 3 tied for Worst Franchise Sequel.

UT it was so bad there are sometimes more people online playing UT99 6 years after it's release, than there are playing UT2004 two years after it released. That's why UT2007 is going back to it's roots.

The only one that delivered was Half Life 2, and it's the one I was anticipating least. Dahmn you all, you dahmn dirty apes. Unreal Championship II also delivered, but because it's a Unreal game on the Xbox nobody noticed or cared.

Burnout is awesome. Halo CE and Burnout alone are worth getting an Xbox for. Plus you can also play UCII.

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

But then whats the point of anyone getting halo 2 vista if they will turn to halo 3 when it comes out

That is for people like us, who are PC gamers in heart, and that prefer playing with a keyboard than a controller, to get to play Halo 2, which we haven't for about 2 years now. Anyways PC players never really join together with console players, so there's no real deal on playing Halo 2 PC at the same time they release Halo 3 for the XBox 360.

At age 40, when he made his comeback, he still had the most powerful punch in boxing, something like 1400psi. I don't care how small his hands are your still going down.
