Subject: "Blogging?"

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Why is this so-called "blogging" banned from the forums? I know B.net is no "blog spot" but where the hell do you draw a line between a "blog" and a story in the Flood?

Isn't Blogging what Obbiquet ALWAYS did?

KOTOR | The WarriorsI'll chain you to the truth for the truth shall set you free
I'll turn the screws of vengeance and bury you with honesty
I'll make all your dreams come to life, then slay them as quickly as they came

All you need to know is it's against the rules. Once we start drawing lines, we start to find loop holes, and then we get rules broken.

Bungie.net is not Blogger or some other blogging website. If you want to "blog" or "share your story," why not write it somewhere a bit more.....suitable? Bungie.net isn't designed to be a blogging place. I also think blogging is not allowed here because these forums are more "public"(or at least I think so). Besides, the replies you would get in here would be mindless, utterly mindless....probably....

He usually had something like, "discuss" at the bottom of his post, and I guess that got him out of things since he was effectively passing the event to the forum to discuss.

It's all I can come up with. Obbi is Obbi.

Read about the Forgotten Spartan I Program
Butane: To protect the world from devastation!
sir_brilliant: To unite all people within our nation!
Rainman89: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
sir_brilliant: To extend out reach to the stars above!
SpaceGhostFlyer: Jessie!
Butane: James!
sir_brilliant: Team Rocket blasting off at the speed of light
Butane: Surrender now or prepare to fight
sir_brilliant: Meowth, that's right!

yeah, all you have to do is add something like "have any of you had similar situations?" and it is no longer a blog.

and yeah, even I know that obbi is obbi.

They should make a small effort to make their post appear non-bloggish, however that would be done. Maybe a little more than a simple question at the end.

Simply because when people discuss their personal lives, they usually don't include something other members can discuss. And since it's usually posted in the Flood, there's no hope anyway.

Sorry for booting you in that game i played with you an impy Shai. I got a little boot happy.

  • 08.27.2006 11:26 AM PDT

Because there is nothing to discuss in those personal story threads, and if I'm not mistaken, The Flood is meant for the discussion of things.

I think the blogging rule is one of the harder things to moderate in the Flood for the ninjas. As I see it, people like to discuss things they've experienced and when they type out a thread topic trying to explain it, it comes off as a blog. Obbi, besides adding "discuss", added a little more than a typical 'guess what I did!'. His were usually highly opinionated and provided a tad of actual information people tend to exclude in blog posts. Plus, the topics weren't standard Flood material.

Lobster bisque.

I agree with impurity here...I think that the line is drawn between "Hey we can actually discuss this and have fun, even though it is kind of opinionated" or "I don't care what happened at your workplace today."

Get my point?

The problem with Blogs is that a lot of people would do it because deep down, we all want to be heard. When we have problems, we want people to know because we want solace. However, it would just cause a lot of clutter and spam and "My girlfriend dumped me, what should I do?" threads.

This is why I believe that if you have a problem, find a friend who you know will listen to you and PM him/her. I'm always here if anyone wants someone who's interested in helping you with your problems. But making repeat Blog threads would turn The Flood into a virtual "Dawson's Creek."

And we all know how good that would work :-/

I have heard that members of the Bungie team do have their own blogs.

Off of this site.

Any links? ;)

it's a good rule. i don't like hearing pointless stories about other people's lives that quite frankly, don't mean a damn thing to me.

Yeah, good point (I also get the point) I have to agree with both of you.

Creating a blog that is like saying...

"I went to the shop today and bought a Mars Bar"

Instead of saying...

"Today, I went to the shop and bought a Mars Bar, which I just happen to love."

"Do you guys like Mars Bars...?"

And like Zee said...Get my point?

Narwhallace Smithington: Gone, but not forgotten. Never approve of anything lil guy. <3
Furious George: The new -blam!-

It'd be cool to have a "blog" section in our profiles. It *could* cut down on some spam, but probably not. :-\

You know, the ones that make you feel like you are reading a Springer transcript? The ones like, "Recon's mom just caught me dressing up in her underwear, and liked it".... well, if they aren't trolling.... I still don't think that this is the place for it.

And I thought I was strange. ;)

Basically, the main different between blogging and discussion is the intent. Blogging, for the most part, is done to have people pay attention to you and what happens in your life, mainly because that makes you fell more important.

Discussion about things you like or enjoy doing is different. As long as you are asking for, and whiling to listen to other people's experience/opinions as well, whatever you're posting should be accepted by the mods(but you never know).

Finally, a big difference between the two is level of detail. Blogs tend to have way to much to detail, and you'll find people saying that they really didn't need to hear it. Don't shove information down people's throughts if they don't want to hear it.
Good Ex.
I just bought an Airsoft gun today and it's right on. I never knew how fun it is! Does anyone else play airsoft?

Bad Ex.
Today I just got back from Germany and was feeling bored so I decided to go to the Canadian Tire in Castlegar and I bought an Airsoft gun. It's a Crosman Stinger R34 and it looks really COOLL!!! I went out in the woods and played with my friends and we shot each other up, it was so awsome. Afterwards we watched Snakes on a Plane.

No one wants to know this kind of stuff. See the difference?

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

I personally think it's a bull-blam!- rule (especially in the FLOOD, of all places), but whatever. Who the hell am I?

It was a cold day near the southern base in Blood Gulch. Cortana and I were relaxing over a game of Go Fish, WHEN OUT OF NO WHERE 700 BANSHEES CAME FLYING IN!!! I GRABED MY SPARTAN LASER AND LET HELL REIGN DOWN UPON THEM. I HOPPED IN THE NEAREST WARTHOG AND TOLD CORTANA TO GET IN.

I disagree. Nothing wrong with questioning a rule.

And yeah, that is what Obbi always did. But Obbi always thought things out. It was never "omg mai gurlfiend left me n im so pist." His always seemed worth discussing.
