Because Micro$oft is a business, as well as Bungie. They want our money.
Its quite simple. Its like asking why they just don't give us H2PC for free.

The best thing about Vista is that it isn't rushed. I remember they put XP out quick. At least they've had 3 years to work on this. I remember when I first heard of Longhorn (Vista's codename at the time) I had not known what to expect of it. Then I saw the Vista screenshots. Then I said "Whoa, I gotta get that".

  • 08.30.2006 5:19 PM PDT

quite simply, Microsoft realized that no one's going to buy a "new" OS that's essentially just the same as XP just because it looks different visually. So they figured that Halo 2 would be a good incentive to buy the software.

I said it before and I'll say it again...

No one in thier right mind would buy a new OS just to play one fricken game. Even if it is Halo2. I am totally blown away at the short sightedness and general boobery that exists here.

LOL, someone will figure out how to make it run on Linux or XP. Someone always does. Especially Linux since its open sourced code.

uh, dude, getting Halo2 to run on another OS would have absolutely nothing to do with the OS's kernel (source code) You have to hack Halo2's source code to be able to get it to run on another OS, and that's just illegal.

Editing the source code for the OS to run one game would be like levelling the New York skyline so some punk in Jersey can see the Statue of Liberty.

Its only illegal if you distribute. I can do whatever I want with the game when I own it. [Not saying I can make it run on other OSs) My friend got Steam, HL2, and some other games to work on linux. Don't see why you couldn't do the same to Halo2vista.

You might be able to get it to run on linux. You won't be able to on xp. Vista and xp are too different.

Because. Its sad if you really want to waste so much time trying to get it to work on Linux, when you could spend the $250 Vista will cost, and take an hour or two installing. Or better yet, have a custom built gaming PC, like I'm going to have done when Vista comes out, and I get a job to pay for it.

How is that sad? I never said I would but I know it will probably happen. I have a job. So, next time, before you start calling me sad, read my post, and don't just call people names for no -blam!- reason. I would rather waste time than money. I will probably get vista anyways but it troubles me that you think that is sad.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Why are people so reluctant to buy Vista? Just because XP was disappointing doesn't mean Vista will be.

I remember when Windows 98 came out. It was very good. There were very few security updates, it supported themes, which was new at the time. And it offered many options and features, that didn't exist prior. It was a big upgrade to 95, and got my friend to buy a new video card (I think it was one of the early All-in-Wonder cards) I enjoyed 98 very much.

When 98 SE came out, I was reluctant to buy it, but when I was forced to do so due to hardware and software limitatons, I liked that one too. It could run some early XP programs, and I didn't think it could get any better.

XP isn't all that bad, even with the PC I have. XP has it's terrible security holes, but it has WMP, a very powerful music player. It forced my friend to make another video card purchase. (some 64MB ATI card, he doesn't have it anymore) So, before you call Windows Vista a rehash of XP, read the wikipedia article, and think again. If you don't trust wikis, go to Microsoft themselves. They'll tell you how awesome Vista is going to be.

Bad example. That's like asking the Coke company which soda is better, out of Coke or Pepsi.

Every one knows Coke and Pepsi are essentially the same damn drink.

And Spark, I'm gunna have to go with Conman here. What you suggest sounds like a colossal waste of time.

I trust Wikipedia. I think Wikipedia is the greatest Internet venture since online Pr0n. :P

Yes, ofcorse MS will say how good their product is, who doesnt? Ya, MS prolly messed with wiki some, or someone who really likes MS.

All im trying to say is that halo 2 DOESNT have to be on vista. It can be on XP. Im sure the only reason they are going to bump it to vista is to get some people started on it.

Alot of people are prepared to play halo 2 for $300 on a PC

Me for one, in about 7-8 months, whenever my college updates the laptops, ill be happy to play halo 2 with a 360 controller
