Read about the Forgotten Spartan I Program
Butane: To protect the world from devastation!
sir_brilliant: To unite all people within our nation!
Rainman89: To denounce the evils of truth and love!
sir_brilliant: To extend out reach to the stars above!
SpaceGhostFlyer: Jessie!

Butane: Surrender now or prepare to fight
sir_brilliant: Meowth, that's right!

Honestly, I think none of you are getting a real point across.

The fans are wanting everything for nothing, and not thinking about that fact that bungie doesn't have 100% control over their resources. Microsoft has quotas and such. They, I am sure, Have most of the final say. Bungie would have been foolish to pass up the opportunity to sell the map packs.

You are acting like you got jipped by your best friend- when in reality you were given a great deal by a business. Sure, Bungie is part of the problem- they have set up such a great community interaction it is hard to see them as the same as a McDonald's or a Wal-mart, but they are. They make a product, they sell it. If they make huge profits off of it, it should be Bonuses and raises all around. Hire some new people, move to a better office. And that is what they did. And then, to top it all off, they gave us a map pack, while working on another project, that was ultimately free. So I think all these "thank you" threads, from BUngie or the fans, need to stop. This is a symbiotic realationship, and so far everyone is holding up their end of the bargain quite fine.

So fans, stop griping that Bungie isn't being nice enough, and go ask Wal-mart for a Thank you.

And shishka, go eat some babies.

Jay you really dont have an arguement. Bungie has gone out of the way to do things for us that they dont have to do. They've lost money for us. What more do you want?

Give it a rest, sucking up won't make you a mod. For that, you need a subscription to WoW.

Jay, you already know my stance on this (Jumpers FTW), and I'm behind you 100%.

Harsh, but hilarious nonetheless. People who say that Bungie has lost money, well hasn't every company lost money for their customers/fans? How much do you think companies spend on just advertising alone?

Fair enough.

Instead of working on Halo 3, overseeing the development of a PC port of Halo 2, overseeing work on a Halo movie, creating several closets worth of Halo swag (including posters, fluid containers, t-shirts, school gear, pens, a long-lived action figure line and more), and instead of making a website that acts as a link between the fans and the developers, an array of forums for discussing Bungie related topics, and giving the fans the ability to run their own customizable groups for their own discussion needs...

We'll write a "thank you" note.

Please. Don't you think you're being a little greedy? You may think it doesn't sound like much to ask us to write some kind of formal "thank you," but what you've done is dismiss everything we do for the fans because it doesn't feel enough to you like we worship you. It's actually fairly insulting, if you ask me, to just shrug off map packs, contests, news articles, and the like because you want some grovelling letter of appreciation.

So let me get this straight. You guys don't want to take the time to make a few stories here and there to thank your fans (I mean, afterall Shishka, you wouldn't be working for Bungie in Texas right now if it wasn't for the fans making Bungie who they are today), but you will take the time to make really stupid stories that nobody cares about like the Penny Arcard Expo and the, well whatever the hell that is. You won't make a few stories thanking the fans but you'll make really bad Weekly Updates that make us wonder why we even bother going to this site? Ah, cool. That makes so much sense. Let us create stories nobody cares about, that'll make the fans happy! Ya, good plan.

I mean, don't get me wrong Bungie is doing a great job, but so are the fans. People thank you guys every day. I'm sure you guys, and yes Shishka even you, get messages every day thanking you for your work. I find it funny how in some of the Weekly Updates there's a lot of letters from people who got banned, yet you don't show the good messages sent. Why is that? How come you guys don't show us the messages from people thanking you instead of the people apologizing for what they did? Ya, that's another good idea. Get a lot of good messages from people thanking you guys, but then only show off the bad ones. What a good plan that is.

I don't know. Do whatever you guys want. Keep making your stupid stories that nobody cares about. I mean, jeez, it would take so long to make a story here and there thanking your fans, but apparently it takes virtually no time at all to create a story about the Penny Arcade Expo. Idiots.

Bungie has done so much for us, the fans, that we should thank them freaking 1000 fold before they even consider making a big thank you for us.

This thread shows off members who're still not worldly-wise really well. I'd thank Bungie just once for giving us Halo. But a company as rich as they are, I think we do deserve a little more respect from the forum staff here. When I hear people say things like the guy I quoted, I ask him to remember that we gave them £75,000,000 on the first day of Halo 2. While I don't expect a thank you from them (Microsoft have already done that), they could show their customers a bit more than an announcement trailer on their next project from time to time.

Bungie's next project could be a book of excuses the way we've been treated. It'd probably be a best seller, helping thousands of 12 year olds everywhere give their teacher a 100% safe excuse for getting out of homework.

So they made 75,000,000 on Halo 2's launch. Where do you think they were getting money from before that? How do you think power, rent and supplies get paid for at bungie studios? How do you think the staff gets paid? How much goes into box and cd manufactureing?

Its not cheap to produce millions of copys of a game, and then box and wrap it. And then theres the media ads to consider. Getting a commercial on T.V. Or on a movie screen preview isnt cheap.

And then i'm sure some sort of royalty goes to microscoft. And Bungie, probably had to pay to use the Havock physics enigine used in Halo 2. It all adds up.

The Sales of Halo 2 have to sustain bungie untill Halo 3 launches. Now yes they made more money then most developers. Does that mean they should work for free from now on? Thats impractical.

Also your complaint about the teaser trailer? You make it sound like they just told us Halo 3 was in the works. We got to see it with our own eyes and get a small insight to the plot.

No it wasn't a full game demo. It was never intended to be. If bungie were to announce all the features now, some other game would probably rip them off. Also i think its better not knowing everything right away. Gives everyone else plenty of time to discuss and therorize about things.

Like i said, im not sucking up, but i know how buisnesses work. Bungie has been more than generous just by making the map pack free to download.

Someone earlier had said that Ubisoft doesnt charge for content. I've spent 10$ on just two multiplayer maps for splinter cell. And more for rainbow six.

What are you talking about? PAX is like a second E3 to me and many others. Not only do they raise thousands of dollars for charity every year, its covered by every major gaming media outlet. EGM, Bungie, Xplay and game informer, all have had feature articals on PAX for the past few years. Just because you are ignorant to it does not mean others dont care for it.

I'm not trying to flame, but if you wonder why you come here, why dont you just leave?

Either back up your statement with an intelligent counter-arguement or remove your lips from Shishka's ass. You can't simply state that he has no arguement. If that's what you think, tell us why. Expand on your statement. Welcome to the world of debate.

We're talking about Bungie thanking the fans. So, from your opinion, you'd rather have a stupid story about the Penny Arcade Expo that you could have very well seen at another gaming site, rather then a nice little thank you story to the fans of the game developer?

Oh ya, the community spotlight. I love reading about random people we've never heard of. I think the point of this thread is to get Bungie to consider thanking their fans on a whole. They had a big Halo 2 tournament and gave away bungie schwag. And whats wrong with them reporting about PAX?

There was nothing else to talk about so im glad we at least got that.

We are the reasons they make money, so, I think we deserve a thank you. Thats all...

Let me get this straight, you want a company to thank its consumers for buying their product...

How many companies have you asked this from? Just one? That's what I thought. Unless you've asked every company you've ever bought a product from to thank the consumers, I think you should shut up.

Oh for the love of god. Are you guys forgetting the point of this thread? Are you that stupid you can't remember the point of this thread. The thread is about Bungie thanking the fans for making them as big as they are now. Yes, I said the articles like the Penny Arcade Expo are stupid. Yes, I said stuff like that. However, I mean it in the way that, say, if I were to choose over a Penny Arcade Expo article over a thank you story to the fans, I'd much rather read the thank you story. Ya, it's cool that Bungie keep us up to date, but Shishka went on this rant about how they have to stop the presses so to speak, but then they go and make a story about the Penny Arcade Expo, or the other article that has no point.

All I'm saying, but of course idiots like Greg won't see it, is that I'd rather see a thank you story rather then something stupid like this. Seriously guys, you're ripping into me because I mentioned the Penny Arcade Expo, but I'm using that as an example. Ya, let us just go on Bungie defense right away without actually paying attention to what the guy is saying. Good job.

You're serious aren't you? I could imagine if they were doing a car show or something, but a gaming expo?

Bungie making news articles about things that Bungie is involved in is somehow not valid on Bungie's site?

That wasn't Jeff's point. The only reason he's pointing out the PAX is because that's the same kind of crap we get. So what if Bungie goes to PAX? Why does it make a main news-story? It's the same crap over, and over, and over again. There's never anything that's actually new in the news posts. Sure, it's nice to read about a new employee once in a while or a funny random story here and there, but when that's all the fans get, it gets old.

Ok Bungie, we bought your games... but they don't give us any incentive to buy the next one.

Personally, I don't really need a "thank you" from Bungie. I don't really care that much. I'll buy their games only because I like Halo, and I'd like to see the storyline completed. I'm just arguing in defense of Jay's and Jeff's statements because they're being misunderstood.

I am REALLY confused here. The fact that they give us insight and after-the-fact "participation" in some of the minutiae and day-to-day events that they have..... to me that is insight that I appreciate. Like the "girls gone wild" video tour. It's not "heavy news", but it sure as hell is relevant.

Marty at a concert where they are playing his themes... IMO, valid. Sketch at a show in Germany.... IMO, valid. ComicCon, E3, Pentathalon, Starbucks runs.... Valid, valid, valid.

Are we as fans really this needy? I remember having girlfriends (EX girlfriends) who wanted constant reassurance and tribute that I really cared. Do we want/need flowers? Candy? Keys to the office?

Don't overblow your arguments with poor analogies to completely different situations. Asking for a thank you isn't really that much to ask for, imo. Nor is asking for some real updates regarding what it is the fans are here for.

Sure, all the things you listed are valid, but that's not the point. It's the fact that we're only hearing about things that are irrelevant to the reason why us fans are here.

Did you become interested in Bungie because they told a story about one of their employees going to Starbucks?

I am more and more confused by the "progress" of this thread.
