I think that there should be some way to change your status on the bungie forums, just to give you a little bit of prestige over other, such as if you have been a member for over 3 years then you become a "Veteran Member" or something similar, or if you have over 200 posts or something then you become an "Active Member", just an idea and im wondering what others think of this.

That sounds like a cool idea. But I think that it shouldn't give any special privledges to anyone.

It would promote Elitism.

A "Veteran Member" would use this to bully around "New Members."

And newer people may feel intimidated when a "Veteran" is in an arguement with them, just because of the lable. And the amount of spammers who would clamour at the opportunity to have a title would be immense.

It's an interesting Idea on paper, but until people can act more respectful to others and grow up, I don't see how it could translate into success.

It's a good idea that can work well for smaller communities. But ideas like those and the members at Bungie.net just don't go together well.

people who tend to do these things are usually banned before they ever hit the 3 year mark, thats why the moderators are here, its mostly to promote staying with a single identity instead of creating new identities all the time. I agree with you in not giving any special privilages, just a seperate title, and possibly special avatars :). im hoping those who have been devoted to the forums for a long time would have a little more maturity then to just bully everyone because of their title.

You have no prestige over other users. You are not your post count. You are not your join date. The moment you start thinking of yourself as more "prestigious" over other users is the moment you should fear the flicker of silver-blue light that is the flash of my bankatana. There is enough ego on this website as it is without users looking for excuses to look down on other members.

And they got rid of the join date for things like this? Sorry to sound sarcastic, but if anyone thinks they are better than one person here than they need to wake up to reality. Everyone should study the middle ages and learn about the social classes back then. Lets just say it didn't work out so well for everyone.

And this is the same reason why they took away the "Member Since: --/--/--" display. Hmm, oh, members thinking they're superior to others. If you're "superior" to other members, you'll know it by how you act, and hopefully other people will recognize you for it.. Wanting a title to be more superior, makes you less, in my opinion. It deserves no title, just person-by-person reputation is what matters.

Hah, first time I've seen socio-economic composition and stratification in the mediæval period used to justify a uniform membership approach in an online forum. You should write a paper on it, if only for kicks. ;D

other then the fact that it wouldn't work.

If it was 2300 posts to be an active member then i would be "active X 100 member"

or something.

it would only promote how much of a life I don't have. making me feel worse about myself.

I think it's a good idea. Like how the guys over at the G4TV forums do it. A little thing below the avatar having some sort of superiority. Gives a difference over members.

You do realize that this is exactly what we're trying to avoid, right?

elitism is bad im glad they got rid of it

i have read something in every section of this site where a newer person posts a topic that someone disagrees with and the poor person has to put on a flame shield to survive and almost everytime there is a member over 2 years old saying something about how they are new and dont know anything....

new people can know more then you give them credit for, and if you want people to know your status that bad you are obviously on this forum enough to be recognized by who you are....*as i am not as i just show my input when i feel it is neccesary*

Fair enough. But I still think the gold star sticker for gamers over level 20 is a good idea.

And what exactly does your status in these forums have to do with your gaming levels?

You think it got what it takes to be..?.

God forbid you send me one of those I was checking for cool gamers and saw you messages too, I will scream to the top of my lungs and smash this damn screen/BlackBerry to pieces! You've been warned -_-

They might as well call me the Active member because I have over 500 posts. But on the downside, no matter if you are a veteran member, a popular member, a member with assignments, your're just another member to the Bnet community.

*Sgt

I'd enjoy something like this, but it simply cannot be done here. Like it was said in the posts before this, most people here are just too immature and cannot handle differences between members.
