Subject: Marathon Quotes

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

Does anyone know a site that lists some of the texts that you see on terminals in Marathon? (Like Durandal's "Cause you are, cause you do, cause I got a shotgun, and you ain't got one" quote).

A link would be much appreciated.

This should help you out

Just scroll down the list of levels to find the terminals you're looking for. I'm pretty sure they've got 'em all there :)

Edit: d'oh...my link is the same thing

Guys, I think we should listen to him, for he has the mode, and judging by his atrocious spelling, grammar, capitalisation, and lack of the ability to make sense, I don't think he's afraid to use it!

When my ship still answered to the Pfhor,
they called it Sfiera after their goddess
of lightning and passion. When you helped
us take control on Tau Ceti, the S'pht
rechristened it Narhl'Lar, "Freedom and
Vengeance".

I call it Boomer.

We’ve watched while the stars burned
Out, and creation played in reverse.
The Universe freezing in half-light.
Once I thought to escape.
To end a master, step out of the
Path of collapse. Escape would make us God.
Yet I cannot help but remember one enigma,
A hybrid, elusive destroyer.
This is the one mystery I have not solved.
The only element unaccounted for.

I have some questions about a Durandal quote.
Posted by: Durandal
I've twice been conquered-
Three times more,
Never again shall humanity purge me,
And never the Pfhor.

Durandal

How has Durandal been conquered twice, and three times more?
The last two lines explain themselves, but it's the first two that have
me scratching my head.
I think Durandal as well as the other A.I.s on the Marathon were part
of the TraxusIV incident on Mars, and were put on the Marathon for
some wicked ends, or maybe just as a way to get rid of the rampant
A.I.s, and the Cyborgs were there to protect the Born on Boards.
(or for even more wicked ends)

In searching for meaning to the above quote I found this that
Bernhard's log originally had the Marathon launch date at 2209.
If you subtract 2209 from 2552 you get 343. What could
this mean? Do the sevens speak the tru7h?

Durandal was the rampant AI that was on mars (the first rampant AI).

He was contained and controlled, and Bernard brought him to the Marathon so he could use him to for bernard's own purposes. It's possible that bernard was part of a mars rebel faction that hid the ammo in the secret stash in couch fishing...

It's possible that Bernard knew about the SO and other Cyborgs, and maybe planed to use them and durandal to take over the tau ceti colony - and make it sympathetic to the plight of the mars people. With the first deep space colony supporting mars, it strengthens mars' position against earth.

Of course, all of this is guess work :)

How many of you guys played the first Escape Velocity games by ambrosia? Remember the description of the planet in the Tau Ceti system?

It's hit that time... abnd everyone in my grade is doing up books for people to write in and say their goodbyes... Mine is a bit different from most... it has the first 3 pages covered in Marathon quotes such as the above one :-D

It freaks people out cos they have no idea what I'm on about.

Durandal and them weren't part of the Traxus incident as far as I can tell, especially since the whole Mars net was brought down as a result and purged over a two year period before being brought back up.

One person who conquered and humiliated Durandal was Bernard Strauss. There is a lot of info on this if you click on Bernard Strauss at marathon.org. Not sure who the other is. I think there was speculation that Durandal was Bernard's experimenting with rampant AIs.
