MSXL: The Last Honest Chapter

Many of the posts stosh's thread about the 7th Column Council give the idea for a large, Bungie-sponsored party involving members of the 7th Column. Unfortunately, anything that Bungie sets will be limited in many ways. Namely the fact that it will be in one location. When you have a whole country (and world!) full of fans, and only one location with a limited guest list, things get tough! But what if the "party" responsiblity was taken from Bungie and given to the fans?

Reach Out
I would say that the general majority of Halo fans have been to a Halo LAN party at one point or another. Would it be all that difficult to scale it up a bit, and invite other people who are in your area - and who just so happen to be 7th Column members? I have already met quite a few members who live surprisingly close to me, so travel isn't an issue. People can get access to a church youth room, a house, or some other sort of building to have it in, without too much work, or cost.

Coming, to a city near you!
Where am I going with this? How awesome would it be to get a national 7th Column Day going? Basically, on a certain day, brave members in cities all over the world would be hosting public Halo parties for 7th Column members! It would be easy to get a chapter going with a listing of all the signed up Halo LAN locations, and all you would have to do is find one near you!

Save money, get famous!
Obviously, there is no guarantee that no one will get left out, but this way there are no long drives or outrageous plane tickets! All would we would need to make this work would be Bungie's online support. Pop something up on the frontpage and WHAM! You see it mirrored on every Halo site out there! That means that these things will definitly get attention, and they will all be fan run! What we need is a few people in cities across America with a passion for Halo, and some sort of organizational skills.

Why not?
Who wouldn't want to go to a Halo party with other people like them, who all like to play Halo and have a good time? This would be a great opportunity for people to hang out, make new friends, and form new Halo groups that will hopefully play outside of the parties.

All in all, it furthurs Bungie's word domination, and provides them maximum exposure for the subliminal messaging that will be released via the Halo game on that day! =D What do you guys think?

=)

Ha! I love it! We so badly need one! We should do it during the summer though, to ensure a better turnout, like right around Bungie Day.

Spamming Bungie since 2004!
Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.

We should do it during the summer

Well, people in different parts of the world have different ideas of what summer is. Unless you don't want it to be synchronised. Hmm. Maybe one of us has misunderstood something about this. :s

bah

He meant summer for 99% of Halo players. That covers everyone in America, and Europe. And besides, isn't it always summer in Australia? If you disagree, come spend a winter in the midwest, that'll shut you up... :)

I could do with a party. Of course we would need people to volunteer to help think it up. Also instead of having one in each and every city, we could try to have the party at major cities. Like me, I live 20 minutes from LA. I'm sure there are a good deal of members in the area. We could all just chip together and rent a hotel room in LA. That way people from all around could come to one big party. Also the people in charge of organizing the party should need to post the location it is to be held at in there city. Some thoughts of mine, hope they're good.

Parties are fun and it's a good idea, but we were talking about xbox live halo 2 events smiley. Anyone from anywhere can join those.

Well we could just have multiple parties, we could have Live parties every month and then a big 7th Column super party where we get together and LAN. Can't have too many parties...

So, instead of everyone getting together, people just hop on to their own X-Box and use X-Box Live so that they can talk to anyone anywhere. I guess that that is stosh's point, but it would be funner to get people together and have a big Halo party with tons of random people. Well, I live in the Bay Area, 9 million people around here, must be thousands of Halo players lying around in wait.

Nice if you are talking about the bay area that has Palos Verdes and Long Beach around it that is where I live. I live in Lomita right next to Torrance.

Hey, it poured all day today. Well, almost. It did fine up for my hockey match (no, not ice hockey!). That was good. Except that we lost 6-0. :( Hopefully we'll do better tomorrow!

By the way, Rip, I saw that "that'll shut you up" thing - for some reason Safari puts "dark blue" as the same colour as the normal text. Weird...

No, I meant the Bay Area with cities such as San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Palo Alto, Mountain View, and Atherton, one of the richest places in the world.

See what I mean? Austrailian winter=lots of rain. Midwestern winter=20 below zero and one foot of snow. That's the frozen form of water made up of tiny pieces of ICE.

Oh, I've heard of that stuff. They say they get it in the mountains around Melbourne and Canberra. Never believed any of it myself - reckon it's as real as the beer you get in America. I mean, ice that's soft? What's wrong with good old hail?

I declare war on Australia... :)

If it's beer you want to go to war over, I suggest an invasion of Europe. The Dutch make the best beer in the world, in my infinite experience. :)

Yup, the dutch have indeed the best beer in the world: Heineken and Amstel and Grolsch!
And the dutch would NEVER surrender the beer to you guys. You have to buy it!

Ok, back on topics, am i the only one who thinks that there should be fanfests all over the world?

 • 05.21.2004 8:11 AM PDT

The War will wage forever; though with it's fury comes a peace that you will never know here.

That's an excellent idea, smiley. Go for it!

Besides, I'm sure that many of us would LOVE to try to get to go to the Fanfest and stuff like that, but, like smiley said, it's limited. Xbox LIVE is a great chance to meet new people, although I had a conversation at a local gamestore with some guy who shows up for tournaments we have. I asked him about LANs and Xbox LIVE, and he said something interesting:

"LIVE is great, but if there's one problem with it, it's communication. Sure, you can get those nifty headsets, but it just doesnt have the same atmosphere as a LAN. LIVE is nice for meeting new people, and joining into 16-player games, but LANs are like a mini-community of friends, who love to play Halo, and they communicate with eachother while fragging is going on. LIVE just doesnt have that air of comradeship amongst the players that LANs do."

All in all, he's right. If people start scheduling LANs, they could draw members out of their parents' basements and into a world of fun and friendship amongst fellow members of the Bungie Community!

Sadly, many people are skeptical about meeting others, fearing that 'bad stuff' could happen. It's kinda odd when someone you only know from online asks you to come to their house to play Halo...

..But, for people who feel that skepticism (I've felt it sometimes, myself), they could always just turn on their Xbox and play on LIVE for a while. That way, everyone wins!

Aye, that's it. Hope that felt inspirational to you all!

Oh, yeah. I totally agree. But worldwide Bungie-sponsored fanfests would be even better. I mean, fan-organised fests wouldn't have access to Bungie's Next Big Thing™.

BTW, JAF (Aaaah! Acronyms galore!), I love the sig. :)

I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time. It's very possible we can do something later this year around the launch of Halo 2. If/when that time comes, I'll get back in touch for any help or support you guys can offer!

Cheers,

I am such a minority :(

Hell yeah. Just last night alone I played with Yoozel on Ghost Recon Island Thunder, mrsmiley and his brother, realslimstevie on Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow, realslimstevie (again) and Neptune on Mech assault, Neptune on Ghost Recon Island Thunder (not when I played with Yoozel, 2 different times) and with eek on Rainbow Six three. Those are only 5 out of 18 7th column members I have played with, and I sent a friend request to another which is waiting to be accepted...and probably will be for another 5 months :P

I think its a great idea, but I won't be able to participate. I'll have to wait for Halo 2 on XBL.
