Personally, while i would love to attend an LAN, theres non that are near me. Trust me I have tried to set one up, but a lot of people are just to far away or just seem to back out of it. I would go to one of Luis Wu's LANs, but he dosen't trust any one that he dosen't know or hasn't seen, so he won't let me into his chapter and won't respond to any of my messages. So in reality, I have to stick to xbox live, and I think its a lot more convenient for those who have it then going to an LAN.

MSXL: The Last Honest Chapter

Parties are fun and it's a good idea, but we were talking about xbox live halo 2 events smiley. Anyone from anywhere can join those.

Quite a few people have mentioned this. (I am using stosh cuz he's, well... awesome!)

Anyways, Maraxus6's quote from the gamestore worker is absolutely true. Xbox Live is fun, and convenient, but it is far from a LAN experience! Actually being there with other Halo fans is an awesome thing! Every one eating food, chatting about the latest game news, insulting each others moms to no end... it's beautiful! If you have not experienced a LAN, but have instead relied only on Xbox Live, you are missing out!

It's not a bad idea to just do it in major cities. This way there will be guaranteed good attendance! If it get's popular in major citites, maybe we can start branching out a bit. I think that if Bungie got involved in these, they will flourish. For instance, let's stretch it and say we are able to book 30 cities for the LAN event. What if Bungie sent 2 free T-shirts to each LAN host to give away, and then announced it on their site. Sweet! Now each LAN can organize a mini tourney for a cool Bungie shirt! I know 60 is a lot of shirts, but with Microsoft's sponsorship, this could be really big!

The host of the party could charge like $2 a person or something so he/she doesn't get screwed as far as money goes. That way there could be food, prizes, etc. Hell, there may even be a way (if the LAN gets big enough) to get a sponsor from a local gamestore. Maybe could donate a couple Halo action figures, or a prize of somesort for the events.

I think the real key is finding responsible people to get things started for the events. Most of the people that went to the fanfest are serious gamers. I personally know that a lot of them could definitly get this going. This is something that could seriously happen. I mean, if we were to plan something in August, that gives about 3 months of planning!

People always talk about game news on XBL. People eat food (ask Yoozel. While we played Ghost Recon Island Thunder I was eating a bannana :D) and I would like you to find someone in here who has played me in XBL who's mother I HAVEN'T made fun of :P Hell when I was playing your brother in mech assault last night I said something your mother related. :D

I know I know its not AS fun I get your point. Eating a bannana (YES it was A bannana. Not MY bannana :D) is not as cool as everyone eating Pizza and you probably are closer friends with those people you will play with at an LAN or whatever. I am just playing Devil's advocate. :P

You're right, I mean, of course XBL is fun. But it can't nearly be compared to an actual event!

"It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!"

I agree with mrsmiley 100% on this, but I would say that instead of 7th Column members setting it up, how about Bungie doing it and having people there. Kinda of like Bungie FanFest East, or South, or North you know. Maybe have about 6 a year in different areas of the country. I live in Ga, so I haven't even entered the contest to go to Fanfest because it is in LA. I mean, I would have to miss work, pay for a plane ticket, convince my g/f to let me take my best friend, and all of that means too much hassle. But, if Bungie had a FanFest in Atlanta or somewhere in Florida or just somewhere within driving distance to me, I would only have to worry about gas and food money. Or we could just have E3 moved to a closer location than LA. And I also agree that XBL and XBC are fun, but I would rather have the people I play against in the same room, so I can taunt the player I just humped.

I agree with all of this totally! I myself am planning a LAN party for my little town, but I don't know if gamestop will sponsor us, like let us use there location and provide adequate gaming supplies.

I was really hoping to have a good one, but it's still in the works. I even had plans to ask sketch to possibly give me a small discount on a couple of Bungie t-shirts and maybe a sound track which I'd ask Marty if he might sign it for our top prize give away. But I doubt this would ever happen. But I am going to try and host some kind of LAN party at a local vender with prizes in the near future; maybe we could kick it off as the first 7c Partey!

P.S. I need help with stuff! Any suggestions on foods, controller amounts, admission, and getting word out?

Suggestions for getting word out? Ask abunch of people. if you want to you could see if you could put an ad in a local news paper or something, I don't know. Get Pizza, everyone likes pizza. Admission? Mrsmiley said like $2 but in NY its like $2 just for a slice of Pizza. Chances are everyone will have 2 or 3 and then soda, and a prize? I would say maybe like 6 or 7 dollars. But that would be here. I don't know about tax $$'s and prices by you. And I would love to play Yoozel in a LAN party of some sort so I could punch him for that time he got shot humping my dead corpse in Ghost Recon Island Thunder.

My god that server was laggy. And my controller was broken. And it wasn't my fault at all. And you were using a 3rd party controller. [/complains]

Your ass is mine when Halo2 is for Live. Quite literally

Hm.. the news paper is a great idea!

P.S. if this gets approved, I will post something about it in case anyone wants to come.

MSXL: The Last Honest Chapter

LMAO! I can't believe Yoozel messed up every line there! (Ok, maybe I can...)

Anyways, in response to blackwater, that wouldn't be a bad idea - if Bungie wasn't constantly working on a game! I mean, only 6 Bungie people were at the fanfest this year. Last year almost the whole crew was there! It is harder than you think for them to just ship Sketch or Frankie to wherever to do a party. My idea is, if we get this organized ourselves, Bungie will follow suit. Maybe they will start sponsoring them, and providing schwag to give away, guest appearances, etc. I think they will appreciate it more if they aren't the ones having to plan everything in addition to makinf a game!

As far as E3 goes, you're out of luck. They signed a 10 year contract with the LA convention center. 8 more to go.

 • 05.22.2004 11:19 PM PDT

"It's better to be dead and cool, than alive and uncool!"

Maybe they should hire someone to just do something like that then. I agree that we need to be more organized and do it ourselves, but just imagine how many more people may turn up if one or two of the Bungie employees is in attendence and playing Halo with the masses. I would love to do more than just host a LAN every Thursday night, but as I said before, out of the people I play with, only about 3 or 4 of them are on the 7th column. I have asked them time and time again to join and to stay active, but they do not. And I hope when Halo 2 comes out that it will generate more interest in our online community and get more people in my area involved. And I also know that a ton of people in my town play Halo, but no nothing about the 7th column. And if I had the time and the ability to raise money, I would host a tourney or LAN type event with some Offical Bungie prizes of course. But then that brings another problem to mind, where to do it. We have no gaming center here or within 75-100 miles. Can anyone offer any suggestions.

I honestly don't care if what I'm about to say has been said by someone else because I thought of it yesterday afternoon walking to the foodstore...

What if... all the Halo fanatics got together in the Amazon Rainforest (it'd be the only one that could hold all of us), and we sport us some Nightmare Armor and some paintball guns. We could all be little Master Chiefs running around shooting each other. It'd be so much better than a party. It'd be euphoric. ;D Whud'ya think?

The amazon? I think we would need Mjolnir armor to regulate body temperature. We'd be sweating like hell in the Amazon. Maybe we could get white Nightmare armor and go to like Antarctica and camoflaughe, or something. The problem is make sure it is a person and not a polar bear you are aiming at. Rewin won't be held responsible for any deaths due to shooting a polar bear :)
Of course then we will freeze. Hmmm...

Good idea though.

Wow even I can't believe I missed that much! Oh' -blam!-, where's the stupid stick, I need to beat myself!

Well I came back from Gamestop, and they might put up some cash but most likly I'll have to go through the head quarters and go back and talk to the manager. Hey Halo would you show up? It's only like a 7 hour drive from NYC to Morgantown and you can cash here. =)

Well I wouldn't want to destroy your LAN party by kicking everyone's ass. It just wouldn't be fun for you guys. That and NY state law is you can't get a driver's license until you are 18 so the chances of me finding someone willing to drive me for 7 hours is very unlikely. To think I could be driving if I lived in like, Florida or something. Man that is a scary thought

If the grand prize is cash I would have gotten cash there :P (Yoozel screws up again. Atleast its only once this time, though...)

XBL kicks ass and all. Ill be playing Halo 2 on XBL.

And in reference to my last post, someone told me the driving age of 18 in NY doesn't go into effect for a couple of years so its still 17 so I will probably be driving in like 2 years. Thats crazy. So I'll crash there in 2 years yooz. That is if you get me a car.

Did I say Gamestore worker? If so, I'd like to clarify that it was a guy who goes to the gamestore. Aside from that, I thought that he was right as well. We had a great conversation about it during the LAN we were playing at, but then I got fragged by a noob with an assault rifle, so it got cut short.

And yes, you guys are missing out if you dont come to LANs! Maybe it's just easier for me, since I've been going to the store for about 3 years now. Anyway, they really are a great place to be at. Yes, we usually do insult eachothers moms, but that's all in good fun. Try talking with other Bnet members in your area. That might help get LANs organized. Just bring LOTS of food, since they can go on for a while. Try being prepared to set aside 5-6 hours of your time for playing Halo at a LAN, if it's gonna be long. The only bad times are when I hear: 'Damn you Maraxus!'. God, that gets on my nerves SOOO much.

Still, if you cant get to LANs, then by all means, use Xbox Live. As I said before, it's roughly the same thing without the atmosphere of swearing, laughing, and insulting of moms.

Some of the problem is that stores are not willing to host LAN parties. Maybe Bungie should call up all the game stores and say: "hey if you've got a guy coming in asking if you could host a LAN and by all means he will organize it, then you better damn well host it. Else no Halo 2 for you."

MSXL: The Last Honest Chapter

I don't think the problem is where to have much as who will show up! I mean, people can use their houses, churches, phonebooths, whatever works. But if this is not backed by Bungie, it won't work. Period.
