Ok, I have already posted this kind of topic a LONG time ago, but no one has been able to help me, and I don't want to bump a thread in the 100th page of the Maw, so I'll ask in a new thread.

I use a Samsung SyncMaster 700b Plus Monitor. And no, it's not a flat screen. Ok, so my screen is way too dark, well not too dark, but photos look very dim, all my PC games have to be manually brightened up for me to see anything, and screenshots, montages, and websites looks dark, and I can't see much (yes, even b.net, I mean I can see it, but it's so dark, I can't see its forum outlines, I just see the paragraphs, and also, this problem has been ocurring ever since I got this computer/monitor). I don't know what the problem is, well, most people these days have a flat screen monitor, maybe it's because my monitor's not a flat screen the screen's so dark? Or is it because of a simple misadjustment?

Please can somebody help me see the true brightness of the computer? Is there an option in Windows XP Pro that allows me to set up the brightness, like a brightness meter? Please, any help will be appreciated gratefully.

brightness is a monitor setting, just raise it. there's a button on your monitor. also, increase your contrast to 100%

Yes, I know, and I have set my monitor's brightness to the higest, but it's dark (the brightness controls on my monitor are two whel thingies under the screen). Also what's a contrast? And where can I increase my contrast to 100%?

That probably means your monitor is on it's last legs. Ever notice how old TV's do the same thing? Same principle. The only way to fix it is to buy a new one I'm afraid.

But isn't there an option somewhere in My Computer, or Control Panel, or the Start menu that allows me to control the brightness? Please, I'm desperate, I hate this darkened screen.

No this is a limitation of or problem with your monitor. The best solution is a new monitor, preferable an LCD if you want to see the brightness and colors you should.
