Who: You and anybody else who reads this
What: Thursday Maw Gathering
When: Aug 31th @ 7:00pm EST until whenever
Where: Bungie.net Maw server @ IP 8.2.0.184 password: cortana
Why: Because it so much more fun to kill people you know and laugh about it afterwards then to kill random noobs on public servers.

Maw Gatherings are when the members of these forums get together to wage mortal combat on the Maw server. Then we usually fill up this thread with our exploits and smacktalking. I usually record my pwnage with Fraps and post a montage the next day but lately my wireless has been making playing Halo difficult so I my not be there.

There is a Teamspeak server available for those that have microphones. The address is ts20.gameservers.com:8824. I really encourage this, Demigod and I have a blast together on Teamspeak.

Rules in brief:
No Intentional Teamkilling
Keep foul language, flaming and random off-topic chatting to a minimum
Keep flag, spawn and port camping to a minimum
Keep the vehicles out of the tunnels and bases
Have fun.

Map/gametype suggestions welcome. I will probably not be in attendence because my wireless makes it impossible. The members of the MAW clan have rcon access (whether they know it or not) and should be on hand to keep order. Don't abuse the power guys.

And no, I will not touch the password -_~.

It's ok, everyone's a newb at some point.

Notice that I used the term "newb" to signify newbie, which is defined as someone new to a certain thing. Not noob which is generally coined as an insult and is banned here.

There's a wiki about it. There's a wiki about everything. There's even a wiki about wiki. How wiki is that?

YAY a password! I will try my best to be there and I should have an August 29/31 Maw Gathering montage soon afterwards. I would have only done an August 29th Maw Gathering montage but I didnt get nearly enough footage.

For a gametype: Rocket Team Slayer with 400 health on Derelict Starting nades ON. No-sheilds. Me and my friends did this at a LAN party and it was sooooooo fun. It took 2 sticks and a rocket to kill a guy. FUNZORS

I probably won't be able to come, since I have to sleep a little early because school starts tomorrow. I won't be able to come to the gatherings as often as before, so I won't be able to post videos in a while.

Plus, this damn virus is ravaging my PC. I need to get it fixed.

Hey Kim, I got an idea for you virus. A while ago I downloaded a free trial of ewido security suite. It cleaned my PC out in no time. I had pop-up messages whenever I opened folders, viruses that made it impossible to use ctrl + alt + del, viruses that put little icon in the toolbar, everything. Ewido got rid of them all in ~2 hours. Best part is, its a free 30 day trial for the firewall, but after the 30 days you get to keep the virus scanner. Try it out.

Thanks, dude, but I've also have had another problem that I suspect is tied to the virus...

I can't open up installation wizards! I downloaded the free AVG program that's a good AV program, but whenever I tried to to install it, the cursor turned to an hour glass signifying it was loading, but no installation wizard ever popped up. Same with some other application/installation .exe files that I tried to open, like Sony Vegas.

?Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?

Never heard of that one before. There might be a way to put an anti-virus program on a floppy/CD and boot up the computer with it, but I don't know how you would do that. Another extremly time consuming way to deal with it:

Symantec.Com has a free, online virus scanner that takes forever to finish, but is fairly thorough. Once you know what the viruses name is, you can a) look it up on symantec.com and find out how to deal with it, or b) find where it has installed it's self (the scanner gives you the source file of the virus), and deal with it with your bare hands. Most good viruses back themselves up into the registry, but on the virus's page on Symantec.Com, it will tell you the paths where it usually installs it's self. Also, if you delete enough components of it, you may be able to open up exe's again, and get something going to take care of it.

If the virus source file, when you tries to delete it, says something like "Error: file is in use by another application", you will need something that has a Quarantine feature on it, so you can isolate the file, and delete it from there.

The bungie.net community is the halo PC community that is renowned for being unbelieveably sucky.

Too many people were taking hogs into the tunnels last time...especially on danger canyon. Don't do this. If I see you do it, you get one warning and then you cannot plead ignorance. Putting hogs into the tunnels or on teleports is really lame. Also, someone who I see posting here was calling people "-blam!-ggggots" on Tuesday. Not cool.

Actually I think blocking teleporters with hogs is an okay strategy and blocking entrances to bases is also OK as long as the vehicle is not inside the base. Its because it only restricts the use of the teleporter but it doesn't kill them. Camping near port and running over or blasting anyone that come thru is a weak noob tactic.

I hate when people drive hogs into the tunnels on Danger Canyon. I was the gunner while we were defending and I told someone to watch the tunnels. So he got in my hog and drove me into the tunnels and left me there. I was like "This is helpful..." i also hate when people drive off in a hog without a gunner, it's a waste of a hog that is most likely going to fall into enemy hands.

And Igg, I really appreciated you adding the ghosts to the Death Island CTF game. A little variety goes a long way.

Yes I like ghost on Death Island because they are up top and with no shees offer a quick hit option for the flag grabs using the top of the map. You can go thru the tele get in the ghost drive across the top and catapult off on to the beach below.
Climb up get flag go thru their port and steal their ghost for the home run, flying off and landing in front of your base.

of course you have to be careful not to fly off at the very top of the base. Even in a ghost you still die, like a meter before you hit the ground. So close, yet so dead.

It's a slippery slope. Problem is that it's hard to explain to someone that blocking an entrance to a base is ok, but taking it 5 feet inside is not ok. Usually if I'm playing and there is someone on my team who feels he/she must block entrances, I leave. It just shows that he/she doesn't have a firm grasp of the tactics of the game. Once you block your own entrance, you limit your team's ability to get powerful weapons as well as setting up scouting positions that can relay info back to base, e.g. "inc from tunnels in 5 seconds." Anyway, your rules though, and I have no problem abiding by them.

I somewhat agree... yes, it's a slippery slope. But I feel that there are situations where it's stupid to take a vehicle into a tunnel, (Danger Canyon for example is usually certain death for the hog crew though even then it might be woth trying if your enemy is tank camping the middle), but Sidewinder's tunnels was meant for ghosts and hogs. Also, the map designers made some doorways too small for vehicles and others they fit through. If it fits it goes as long as it makes strategic sense, is my approach.

Gerhyphobia has ghosts spawn on the lower level and they fit right in the enterances. Most people don't park outside and walk in. Personally, I usually find it's best to take the ghost 3/4 the way through the lower enterance tunnel, pull a 180 degree turn, walk in for the flag, jump down, run into the tunnel, jump on the ghost and get away. But that's if the base is near empty. If it's full, plow on into the crowd, fly up to the flag, grab it and go.

I've seen people do absolutley stupid things with vehicles in bases, like fill the BG base with vehicles so nobody could get the flag, (there was no vehicle respawn), or stuff the tunnel in Danger Canyon so the enemy had to come through the canyon, but so did their flag carrier because nobody could get through. Even camping the flag is pretty dumb since one nade overturns the hog– sitting hogs are sitting ducks.

But most of the time vehicles in bases or tunnels are dumb for the vehicle driver and crew, and when my enemy is dumb, I'm happy.

I guess it's multi-vehicle spawn-killing baserape that is a problem. I wish there was a way to change the spawn in points.

The whole "No vehicles in the bases/tunnels" rule is a little vague. Where does the base begin on some levels? Is it the entrance tunnels on the lower bridge on Gephy? or can you take a ghost inside them, but have to dismount at the doorway into the main base area? And what about quick grabs on timberland? are we allowed to do that? Some levels are quite clear on where the base begins such as Blood Gulch, on others it seems like it's the hosts perogative to say where the base perimeter is.
