Definately not. For one, most dual sided lightsabers are red. The plasma sword looks white with some kind of rotating color scheme. Next, the dual sided lightsaber is dual sided, the plasma sword isn't. Another, one is from a long, long time ago from a galaxy far far away, and the plasma sword is from the future and will be found of Earth in Halo 2. Next, the lightsaber uses crystals to focus a laser beam, the plasma sword is *obviously* made of plasma and we have no knowledge of how it projects its edge.

Your answer? No.

i would just like to say one thing why does everyone keep calling it a "plasma sword" plasma is a really hot almost liquid like substance that i dont believe could be molded into a sword it is an enegry sword that is what bungie has called it from day one so thats what it is

bah

Plasma can solidify when exposed to a magnetic field. This would create a solid beam of intensly hot material. Lighsabers and plasma swords are very real possibilities for the furture.

I agree with mark. But plasma can be "molded" in to a sword by using magnetic fields. That is how you contain plasma. But as you said and as I have said before it is a energy sword.
A plasma sword and enregy sword use two totaly diferent psycics.

I have a great reason to why it can't be a plasma sword. If you want I can tell you.

  • 05.21.2004 6:51 AM PDT

bah

The energy sword is totally different from the plasma sword seen in last year's demo. Unless Bungie had to drastically cut its graphics level, I think we will see plasma swords in campaign, but still not use them. :(

I think if ya are doing physics at a level higher than High school, that you are taught that plasma is a completley ionised gas. To completely ionis the gas it needs extreme heat and presure (Plasma weapons over heat), this is why it is found in the centre of stars! If there was the technology to completely ionis the gas then it would be fair to say that they would have the technology to create the magnetic field necesary to produce such a weapon. I do supose there is a very fine line between energy and plasma since plasma contains a hell of a lot of energy!

And tomorow ill be teaching.............

Maybe the humans sword would be a plasma sword? It would be stronger than the covenants "energy sword"

Hmmm well i was just thinking, why on the multi player demo do you pick up the "energy sword" activated but in the trailer video the covenant activate them before the "bet you cant stick it" remark! I think the "energy sword" should be deactivatable, so it just looks like the grip the covenant carry. Do ya think that would be better?

Plasma does not nessesarily need to be hot. But to use it as a weapon you need it to be realy hot.
Also to contain the plasma you need to use superconducting magnets that is cooled to allmost to absoloute zero. And I dont think that even with the technology the covenant has that they would be able to comprimise it to such a small size. Secondly what energy source would you use power it if you need to heat the plasma. And third there is now way I know to how you would form the plasma in to a sword from just a handle.

Edit: Oh and you don't need extreme pressure to ionize a gas (aka turning it to plasma).
In modern fusion reactors the pressure is only 1.5 atmospheres.

bah

To use it as a weapon, you need the ability to make it turn into a fine point. It could be cold as ice and still slice thorugh metal, obviously being hot helps a lot. Now, to use it against shields like Mjolnir, yeah, definitely needs to be hot, really hot.

Through war we will teach your heresy.
Through battle we will teach your frailty.
Through death we will teach your fate.

(To settle everything in the E3 demo it said "Picked up the Energy Sword")

Anyway, the Energy Sword is nothing like the lightsaber, since the lightsaber is just a projection from a crystal since I don't know the intracisies of a energy sword I can't say.

Actually, that is most likely achievable right now. But I won't get into that right now, give me like a few weeks to do research.

EDIT:
"Modern Fusion Reators" are still highly experimental.

I believe that the plasma is formed by heating the air around it, while simulateously compressing it with superconducting magnets.

No plasma is formed by either shoting particles at the gas wich will release enourmus amounts ef energy that heat the gas.
Or you can run an electric current through the gas to heat it.

all right now people im in 7th grade and heres 2 things i have to say Fist: so far "raw" energy cannot even be captured much less changed into a sword from a handle Second: scientists are looking at plasma as an alterate energy source because of the energy in it not making a sword out of!

ok im done oh yeah ive already taken the ACT and i got an 18

THE PLASMA SWORD IS THE SAME EXACT THING AS THE ENERGY SWORD!!

Why won't you people get that through your heads. The sword in 2003's video looked like ass anyways. Just understand that Plasma Sword=Energy Sword. They are the same thing. The Sword just has 2 names!

The plasma sword "shoots" out of the handle when activated. So if what you say is true, then a high energy burst could be used to heat the gas, creating plasma.

I was looking on it from a scientific point of view.
And energy can be "stored". If you lift a stone from the ground you transfer energy to it.
Also they are not looking at plasma for energy, but the fusion process.

Edit: But the acellerator neded to shoot the particles are huge. So it wouldn't work.
And the amount of energy to use a electric current is large. And you would need to continusly heat it, otherwice it would cool down and be useless.

No!! They are the same exact weapon!! And do you know why it has two names? BECAUSE NO ONE CARES!! Come November 9th, you'll realize that if you call it the plasma sword or the energy sword, it IS the same weapon.
