I installed a 7300 LE for my brother's computer (it's a gateway pre-built)

I put it in the correct slot, push it in gently and all the way in. I connect the DVI cable to the back of the card after it's installed, and plug the cable into the monitor

I turn on the computer and monitor. It shows the gateway logo, then it says:

No Signal
R G B

then the monitor shuts off

It's a brand new card, it's in the PCI-e slot. We went through 4 cards already trying to get it fixed.

How do we fix it? It's been a problem for the past month

gah! why can't the slots just have one color to tell what type they are? AGP should be brown, PCI should be white, and PCI-e should be black, but I saw PCI-e as orange and other colors. it's confusing!!! (I used google and there was like 4 different colors for PCI-e and PCI)

Sorry fastmatt, not exactly my area of expertise. I suggest doing process of elimination until you pick the right slot. Hopefully you won't break the GPU in the process :(

There are specific colors for ports. PCI normal is white, AGP is maroon or brown, and PCI-E is yellow.

yep we went through 3 of the same cards already.

Also, my birthday is tomorrow, my mom said I can get two expensive things. I want a 360, should I wait for DX10 cards, or could I get a 7600 now?

Deffinatly wait and get DX10, your wasting your money for a 7600 becuase when DX10 comes out its as ancient as the Pharo's.

PS: If you get a 360 get Madden 07 that game pwns!

the problem isnt the video card its the computer.

Gateway and Dell have a program in there computers that prohibits 3rd party hardware in their machines. making it so you have to order every upgrade from them.

we ordered from gateway 3-4 times and it still won't work

did you disable your previous drivers?

or does your mobo have an integrated chipset?

I am not sure, I think it had ATI 450 on board.

did you disable them ALONG with the previous video drivers?

that's the thing we can't get to the menu to disable it. All I remember is that one day my brother couldn't use his computer, the monitor works, the cable works, it's the computer somehow.

Click start, than right click on my computer, select properties, after the properties window pop up, than go to device manager after device manager pops up, than go to Display Adapters. disble your onboard video, restart your computer, press F1 and go to BIOS. Select the advance tab and Select your main display adapter to PCI-E. Save and turn off computer. install your new video card see what happens.

Does the normal 15-pin RGB connector (normally blue) work to the monitor (instead of the DVI you are trying to use)? Well, unless the 7300 you have doesnt have that one.
Try that.

the VGA doesn't work either, it's not the cables.

And widow, I can't change the settings, I can't even log on to my brother's computer at all.

Matt, take out all the vid cards and put it back to the way it was before you installed the 7300. Then do it.

that's what I did. it still won't work.

oh -blam!- I'm sorry, I forgot to say that the 7300 came installed, I'm sorry to confuse you all.

My brother's gateway came with the 7300 when he bought it, then it took a -blam!-, and we ordered new cards, but they didn't work, we're on our 4th card.

sorry to confuse you all

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Or take the motherboard and throw it out. I had a similar problem, installing a GeForce MX 4000 on an old computer. That piece of crap died before it could start up.

Gateway tends to make mistakes in makiing their PCs, since they, like Dell, manufacture on a mass-scale. The 7300 (from my knowledge) requires a PCI-E x16 slot. Maybe they gave the wrong mobo, or wrong card for mobo, either way. PCI-E x16 is not compatible with 8x pci-e. You should look into getting a pci-e 8x or 4x.
