Because the majority of sites who allow the word end up turning into a collection of either "new people", and the "veterans", and the dumbass internet slang that follows. It's gets to be something degrading, and makes the site focus less on the purpose, and more on who's new, and who's not

With B.B. gone, the passion of Bungie.net has lessened.

The word is a word used by idiots and asses. Ever been on Battle.net? We can't say it here, because if we were allowed to, B.net would be come the other B.net (Bungie-->Battle)... and trust me, that wouldn't be good. I can't even stand to be on Battle.net anymore because of that.
