(It's obvious you guys are the wrong crowd for appreciating the irony in this, but this is the forum I'm now now and I don't feel like venting elsewhere)

Just saw a new anti-bush commercial. Some guy saying he was "called up" (keep in mind there was NO draft, and that he went 100% on his own will) by our Government to go to Iraq to find WMD's that weren't found and for a linkage to 9/11 that wasn't found. Now he complains that his hand got blown off, therefore the war is a political move and these poor innocent army dogs are paying the price.

First of all, these soldiers and reservists have been more than happy to sit on their hands for years collecting a paychecks (at taxpayer expense) for ultimately doing nothing much more difficult than training and manning bases. Now he's whining because he finally has to earn his pay in combat? ridiculous

WMD's that weren't found? Ok, I'll grant they weren't found, but a little common sense wouldn't hurt in this situation. A) Suddam Hussein clearly planned to save what military power he could by hiding various devices and moving what he could into Iran (his fighter jets for example). B) Evidence pointed at Saddam Hussein at having nuclear/nuclear related arms, and he was known for heavily impedeing the inspectors searching for such items C) Iran, while not an ally, was more than willing to accept Saddam's arms and there is a LOT of desert in IRAQ D) ok, kids, here's the hard part. . . if Saddam Hussein hid what military power he had, and evidence pointed to him having weapons of mass destruction, would it not, therefore, be highly possible that he hid these weapons in Iran or buried them in the expanse of desert there? Really, is it that hard to believe?

No linkage to 9/11? Someone who supported and harbored terrorists (those responsible for 9/11 and other groups) thrown out of power and a U.S. friendly government established that is more apt to monitor terrorist activity in the area is not trying to prevent future terrorist strikes and disempower people directly and inderectly responsible for the tragedy?

Alright, he lost his hand. While I know that's not a fun experience, many people suffer much, much more and end up losing limbs every day, and most of them aren't even trained or paid to take those risks. Should I change my vote because some guy lost his legs in a nasty car crash because Mr. X, Y or Z didn't do something about it? Of course not. Furthermore, I would wager that this spokesman's misfortune is his own fault- winning the war was a walk in the park compared to other U.S. conflicts. The bulk of the people there now are acting as a security force whom nothing should happen to IF they just pay some attention to what's going on. Nervous looking people or 'abandoned' cars parked on the side of a road need to be checked out; if a soldier fails to assess the potential danger properly then he's just asking to get hurt.

Conclusion: Gimme a break. This is one of the weakest arguments I've seen the entire election. It's a shame so many people will feel sorry for this poor bum and renew their anti-war zeal. What about the poor bums in the towers? They didn't even have a chance to fight back, and now this guy wants our sympathy?

I hope you guys can see through things like this. . . but I know most of you won't. -sigh-

read the rules: no Politics.

Unless they involve political humor, then it's funny.

Incidentally, I believe that materiel was moved into Syria, not Iran. The Iranians flooded people into Iraq afterwards, sure, but there was no love lost between Saddam and the Iranians. Last article I read suggested that there was intel that showed that unknown amounts of materiel and personnel were moved into Syria and possibly Lebanon as well.

I absolutely agree with you, but, dude. Video game forum. Most people here are thirteen and can barely type without using numbers in their w0rds. They don't pay taxes, they aren't going to war, they turn the channel when moveon.org commercials come on - NOT because they're BS, but because they're boring. Take it to freerepublic.com, us Freepers eat this stuff for breakfast.
