Ok, so I was bored (this is the last day of my vacation, my school starts tommorow), so I decided to check out some of my HaloPC footages that I recorded quite some time ago (to be exact, the stunts one). Then I suddenly stumble upon a cool scene, which takes exactly 1 min., so I decided to make a small video with it, and a cool music. Then I realized, the Pirates of the Caribbeans theme: "He's a pirate" song was a good fit. Here's the link to the music: http://www.martialartsacademy.org/media/mp_qship_1.asx

Ok, so I downloaded it to my folder, and after I imported the 1 minute flick to the Windows Movie Maker screen, I attempted to import the Pirates of the Caribbeans theme song there too. But every time I try to do so, it says "Windows Movie Maker cannot support this file, blah blah blah", but I don't get it. It's an audio file, so it should work, and it works for Windows Media Player. Is there a way to fix this? Or does any of you have a supported version of the Pirates of the Caribbeans: "He's a Pirate" song? Any help would be highly appreicated.

Windows Movie Maker clearly states that some audio formats, such as iTunes, are unsupported and therefore cannot be used in WMM.

Ok, I've search high and low, and can't find any way to convert an .asx file into a .mp3 or .wma file. There are files/programs you can download to convert them with, but I don't trust 3rd party apps unless they're well known. I even tried looking in the Window Media Player help section, and the Windows Movie Maker help section, and the only "converting" subject I found was how to convert files to .mp3 for a certain device.

Does any here know how to convert without downloading any strange programs?

Just download it. Its not piracy if you already own it. They aint gonna bust you for downloading a different format of a song you already own.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

.asx refers to a link to a file that can't be downloaded. Think of it as a reference for a rental.

At this point you can't do anything with .asx files, so go buy the soundtrack. If you don't want to do that, oh well.

ASX is not an audio format, but a link to one somewhere. So I've opened up the file and extracted the URL to the MP3.
