Cheating to get on top of the level with a Ghost in Blood Gulch. But I never use that. My favorite is the incline by blue base in Blood Gulch, you can snipe both sniper pick-ups and if a ghost tries to get up there, you can usually stick a grenade and jump off the incline. This spot is great!

On AotCR, when I get to the area with the 2 wraiths, I just shoot the platform above the gap and grab the banshee. Then I fly back up the platform, and wreak havoc on the covenant below. Then when I get to the natural formed bridge @ the end, I grab the banshee, and fly all the way to the top of the structer, and snipe like crazy.

On the level boarding action, fourth floor on the blue side below the snipe where there is a crevice with an overshiels in it...it reappears quickly and if you're shot with a snipe, you won't die and you can grab it again!

That level would be the Two Betrayels. I do that as well on that level.

The middle section of BG. It doesn't matter if it's up on the hill or in the shadows. It's just my position. I have to watch the teleporters and both bases at the same time for my clan.

You are describing "camping spots" not sniping spots. Here is the difference

Sniping-

The act of stlking out a target of opportunity. Sniping involves a single shooter that finds the target, tracks them until an opportunity to fire opens, and kills the designated target with a single shot resulting in a kill. To do this, one must be professional and have skill.

Camping-

the skill less job of sitting in one spot and shooting. Generally with a scoped weapon. Campers normally expend more ammo then it is worth for a single kill, and are not very good when it comes to being professional. Their poor tactics are cheap and a sign of their own inability to use skill.

That is the difference.

On Foot. and High up.

I really don't have a fave place. Like most snipers, after a kill or two, i MOVE.

Well tell that to all the peopl I one shot kill them with the sniper rifle. Staying in one place is dumb, you will be counter-sniped. Cheap, It may be what you call cheap but it is strategy. Do you not need strategy to win CTF games? You must be really talented.

I like getting out of the level in Sidewinder and sniping as I move closer to the opposing base in CTF.
Hikaru is right though. It is alright to maybe camp in one spot when it is 1 flag CTF and you are on defense, but the best defense is always being offensive and so a great strategy is grabbing the Sniper and pushing towards the enemy's base killing anyone that you see.

I go as far until I can see the opossing team's teleporter and their base. Then I will spawn kill them to death while my team gets in the base and gets the flag then we win. It's just how I snipe.

does anyone else do short range team sniper games? me and my freinds play lan on Rat Race. Sniper rifles only and no grenades aloud.

Its very skillfull to get head shots on multiple moving targets at short range, great fun.

I hate the way snipers on big open levels are called campers, its not allways the same thing. Part of the art of sniping is locating a good spot using it untill it becomes compromised and the moving on to the next spot.

A good spot is somewhere that combines a good field of view with a limited number of incoming angles. Its often best to have a limited field of fire, as then anyone counter sniping you will appear in your scope and so you can snipe them before they can snipe you.

Good sniping areas should have a retreat route and be fairly close to a supply of ammo. But if your good then ammo isn;'t really a problem.

Shadows are good as they make counter sniping much harder. Also a good sniper constantly moves back and forth so people counter sniping can't get easy kills.

Camping is just a sniping spot that no one is good enough to remove you from. Seems like the real skill should be in killing them.

Some tend to get pissed when someone else kills them repeatedly; from experience I've found it's more that they're pissed that they didn't think of doing the same thing first. I'm perfectly fine with having the tables turned and others doing the same thing to me--it just tells me they're a smart player that has learned from another smart player. That, and turning the tables again will be extra nice.

More appropriate to the topic, a good sniping spot is anywhere where the element of surprise gives you a good shot on a non- or slow-moving target, or basically a target that doesn't move in such a way as to avoid being easily hit/killed, with or without the added caveat that you can escape easily should your existence be threatened--this is probably more applicable to real-life snipers than Halo snipers, since the latter can simply respawn. In theory, anyone can be in a good sniper spot, which I imagine some of the better players don't like to admit, thinking they're God's gift to long-range ballistic kills. Even "bad" players will have a good run in a good spot.

A good SNIPER is someone who can make a kill in a bad sniping spot, and is more limited in the breadth of players that can claim they are such. I don't claim to be a good one or a bad one, though maybe I will say I'm better than average.

That's a good explanation. But I made the topic to talk about good spots to snipe from, not an argument about what true snipingis.Different people have different ideas, and the same goes for what is sniping.

I prefer BG and slowly move up the right side (from the Blue base) and there is a nice little ramp inbetween the ridge trail and the huge ledge by the Blue base. It's good to watch the teleporters and get to the red base without being seen. Also, by the red base there is the area in all the shadows. If you go in there, a little rise can be found and you can watch the red base and the blue teleporter. Plus, it is alomost impossible to be seen. Good stuff.
