I'm a proud fan of Halo. Mocked by many, but I don't care. I did my science fair project ON HALO. I'm a devoted fan, and always will be. My mom does not allow me to have a console, so I've ended up buying 3 copies of Halo PC. (1 lent out, never got back, 1 scratched, 1 playing) But, I've looked at the new Halo 2 Vista project. Yes! Halo 2! WHAT!?!? WHAT HAPPENED!? Yes, there's a problem, and I still have yet to understand why not. Where'd our bump mapping go!? I love Halo 2 more than Halo not because of the game play, but the graphics. It turned ugly! I hate to say this, but but the bump mapping back on! Video cards can handle dot3 maps, especially since this is a Vista system, that REQUIRES a GeForce 5900 or Radeon 9800...

Please Bungie, add the bump mapping!

(PS: Thanks for Halo 2 PC! =)!!! )

Why on earth would they eliminate bump-mapping? Games these days use them all the time.

Bungie does many things, one of the things they don't do is take a step back.

Don't make a topic about this. Instead send em an e-mail. There's no point for us to talk about this.

He probably looked at the screens for Halo 2 Vista at the H2 Vista homepage here at Bungie, and thought "Why the Goddamned Hell do these screenshots look so ugly!?"

The answer is simple, they didn't take out the bump mapping at all. You must be confusing it for something else, and besides, though I admit it's rather ugly and in a great need for anti-aliasing, it's a freaking early build. It's not what you'll see in the final version (hopefully, probably). So go Chill Out, in Blood Gulch before you condemn H2 Vista's graphics to Damnation, if you know what I mean.

Also, H2 Vista requires a GeForce 6600 to run, not a 5900. But what do I know.

I'm just conserned, because they had bump mapping in Halo too, but they took it out... (Look closely, look at the HANDS. You can see it's not in there.)

Hopefully we'll see progress in later builds...

Define bump mapping, because I think you have no idea wtf you're talking about.

Bump mapping = normal mapping = dot3 maps applied to a material + a shader. I'm a programmer, you can see it and not see it. It's not in there yet. Again, look at the hands, look at the environment, look at the chiefs. It's not there.

I noticed the same thing a long time ago. Just keep in mind that it's still in early stages of development, or porting, or whatever.

Can someone help me? I can't figure out how to make a map? You don't have to tell me give me the link to a site, I'm posting here cause I can't make my own posts yet. I've already tried most of the sites and nobody of Halo Custom Edition knows either. The HEK was too confusing for me to understand.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

...the screenshots are outdated. Just wait...patience is a virtue.

If HEK is to complicated, then I'm afraid you won't be able to make maps. Sorry. Learn HEK, because that's the only Halo Map Maker for Custom Edition.

Most of the PC issues posted here are the result of PEBKAC.

Yeah, Halo 2 Vista is stil in development, seeing as they don't have a demo for the Vista Beta yet.

However, I think Halo's bump mapping is adequate. This is an older game, and it was designed to work on a variety of hardware devices. If you don't like it, program your own shaders, and don't complain about what Bungie gave you. Besides, be glad they ported this over to PC in the first place.

The few, the proud, the leet.

Funny how the only bump mapped surfaces in Halo were glass. And yeah, the bump mapping is definately there. I see it clearly.

Everything about Halo 2 Vista is still beta, if it was already complete they wouldn't have just started releasing screenshots.

It wasn't used in most of the Halo game, I don't care. Bump mapping is what defines the Halo 2 world, we NEED it. Lol, I don't care about how the original Halo looks, I care about the who loss of network code in the port. =)

Hey, dude, have you been reading? It's an early build. Not the finished product.
