The general concensus for Halo PC when it came out seemed to be that it was not as good as its twin on the xbox. I agree with this myself, but I was just curiouse about why every one else thoghtso also.

When I bought Halo PC I didnt own an Xbox yet so my first expirience of Halo SP was on the PC (I had plauyed some co-op and a little MP @ freinds houses but ony verry little). I enjoyed the game verry much, even when my FPS dropped to 20, but I didnt have the same reaction and love for the game that every Xbox player I know had. I also found it to be easy compared to the Xbox version wich I was able to play through later that year when I aquired an Xbox.

After thinking about it for a while I came up with a possible reason why Halo PC "wasnt as good". No doubt Halo was an exellent game despite the system you play it on. Its also a fact that fps's are better played on PC's. So I ask you, Is it a possiblity that when Halo is played using optimal controlls, on a system where many other FPS's hold the "king" title the way Halo dose for Xbox, It istn as good? This is taking out of considderation any hardware issues and restrictions apply to your gaming expirience.

I just have to ask it. What do you think?

I agree it is easier on pc, but not in a bad way. The requirements for optimal graphics are pretty high though (glad i have a good computer). I think that there are less shooter's on xbox so halo seems much better on it(plz dont flame me). On pc there are hundreds of fps's, and many of them are good. Halo on pc is very very fun, but not incredibly good compared to all of the other fps's on pc.

PS - Please don't kill me, you xbox fans

I agree with you DelJay, there is alot of competition on the PC, Doom3, Half-Life, Counter-Strike, FarCry, PainKiller, (Half life 2 soon), Unreal 2, UT 2004, and so many other good shooters.

I like the game more on Xbox because it doesnt lag (on pc it lags so much) and also for some reason the controls feel better on Xbox. Overall buying halo for pc is a better buy than buying it for Xbox cause there is Halo CE for PC and you can easily mod pc for free

You all make an interesting point, but I think the reason why the public didn't give Halo PC the same outstanding applaud compared to its Xbox version was because of the Xbox's graphical and multiplayer smoothness. Like most of you in this topic, I didn't really mind the slight differences on the PC version (other than the damned Fuel Rod Gun). However, my friend was the first to point out that the textures seemed more pixelated and "not TV-ish". Granted, I feel the banshee in multiplayer more than compensates for the slight change in quality. Still, my friend does prove his point: on the multiplayer aspect of the PC version, the shaky networking code and the fact that you have to overly compensate for lag makes me think that the best version is still the one on Xbox. You must also consider the thrill of Coop in Legendary as well as the camaradery and the intense atmosphere present at a Halo LAN party. Halo PC is good, and its various customizations on Halo CE make it better, but I am nonetheless loyal to my beliefs rooted in the Xbox version of Halo.

On another note, Halo 2 will be awesome... too bad you would need a top-of-the-line video card on a PC that could run a 4-way pixel shader to play it.... Or so I've heard.

The PC version sucked compared to the Xbox version for one reason: lag. Gearbox ruined the game by going with server-side netcode, which causes lots of warping and forces you to lead several inches to hit anything. To give you an idea of just how bad they screwed it up, this game lags like a -blam!- even on LAN (I can post a video as soon as my friend finds a place to host it). It's caused problems for competitive gamers when the game craps out on state-of-the-art equipment. (The floor of summer CPL was covered in smashed CDs as people uninstalled HaloPC and broke their discs in disgust. And Gearbox is afraid to even show up at CPL because all the players hate their guts.) Gearbox ruined HaloPC. Online play is a joke, and LAN play isn't much better.

New maps and weapons are cool, and the mouse is a definite plus. But the lag makes it incredibly frustrating to play.

Its pretty much "or so you've heard." Xbox uses DirectX8. For a game like Halo 2, thats pretty good there however, I think Halo 2 will run perfectly on the PC given that the game developer ports the game correctly unlike Gearbox and Microsoft who pretty much insulted Halo for good there on the PC.

Erm, yeah, the xbox's graphics card is vastly inferior to most PC graphics cards these days. I still don't understand how they're going to make Halo 2 Xbox use Direct x 9 effects with a direct x 8 card.

Hey! I just found out something interesting, for those who think you need an Alienware to run Halo PC. I just booted up an old P3, 800MHz, 256MB ram and a ATi 9200 (dx 8.1 card) which apart from the ram is almost exactly the same as Halo's minimum requirements, I set the graphics to a reasonable level: 800x600, shadows on, particles on, textures medium, specular off (it wouldn't show up anyway with a 8.1 card, same as on xbox) and you know what? It works Brilliantly. Smooth, and almost completely lagless. That PC is about 4, maybe 5 years old. And it still makes Halo look better than the xbox version.

So if you still insist you need a PC bought last week for £2000 with the best gfx card in the world to run Halo smoothly, God help you.

HaloPC seems to be focused on Older, or new pc's not so much the budget ones like mine... yet again, the middle-class gets screwed over. :p
