After reading the FAQ, my jaw dropped over the question of the release date in other countries. I can see no reason why Halo 2 cannot have a world-wide release, if films can do it so can games. I don't want to hear that the UK release will put back to Christmas or January or something like that. Why is it just that Bungie are a American company, should Americans get their hands on it before anyone else? This happens far too often in the Video Game industry. The world has waited for Halo 2 just as long as the US, I will literally spit if I read this and inundate all Forum with my disgust. Bungie has had total control over the game thus far, they decided the Nov 9th release date, no-one else. Please don't fail a good third of your fan base with a delayed European release. Qutie frankly, any excuse simply won't be good enough.

This is unnacceptable and it should be a world wide relase... i mean its only the biggest game relase ever!

People have raised the issue of PAL and NTSC conversions and the possible limitation of blood/gore in elation to various countries. My arguement Bungie have has 2 years to make sure these changes will be implemented. Its not a good enough excuse. We want it on Nov 9th, nothing else is good enough.

The reason world wide releases are uncommon in video game is because the game needs to be changed to PAL format and changed in to the various european languages. This takes time, the only way a worldwide release is possible is to finish the english version well before the release date so that all the versions can come out at once.

I do hope they can do a worldwide release or perhaps a couple of weeks delay but anything more than a month and i'll be seriously annoyed. HOPEFULLY bungie will get Halo 2 PAL version out before christmas, its possible and likely as it would be stupid to miss christmas, its not certainty however.

My sympathies to you all. But for now.... EVERYONE is waiting for it... sometimes I wonder whether it will ever come out. Do something else to pass the time. At least your countries actually have interesting cultures.

My arguement to the PAL conversion thingy is this, don't release the game in the US until its erady to be released world-wide. Don't announce Nov 9th if your not sure you have a 'world-wide release' ready product. Very bad PR. I'm getting angy just writing.

I have no evidence but i've been given the impression by Bungie that they're not being rushed to finish the game and the date, November 9th was chosen strategically to create massive christmas sales. Unlike most game i think Bungie may have the time to do all the format conversions.

I may be plain wrong but i think its a real possibility, i'm not going to import as i wouldn;t be able to use LIve with a US machine and its alot of money anyway.

I'd expect halo 2 to be release in the UK by the end of november, if we get really lucky maybee even on the ninth. It would be nice if bungie could clear this up officially though.

I don't see why you guys are getting so upset. Heck, you're waiting at least 6 months nomatter what. An extra month or two isn't going to kill you. Besides, the learning curve won't be much of a factor, from what I hear, because of the similarity of Halo2 play to Halo: CE. Plus, Americans are special, so we deserve it earlier :)

I'm American and I just think that there are too many factors in the world to get "One world wide release date "Plus it probobly isn't Bungies fault, I think that either the stores don't order fast enough or the cargo ships/planes can't come from th U.S and arrive at the same time or a combo of the two. So don't just go around looking for an excuse to hate America or American stores.

Nothing to do with hating America, I'd be upset if I was American and it came out in the UK first.

Ok. Still, I don't think it's a thing that deserves "outrage." Halo2 will be available across the world either way; it isn't like you're being excluded or anything. Translation and whatnot takes time and effort. I'd just be glad that they're going to make it available worldwide at all. Anyway I don't think the wait will be just excrutiatingly long. You guys are mature enough I'm sure you can handle the stress. . . . you've got. . . . umm. . . British-accent power.

Morriss...take a breather for a second. You said it isn't fair that we americans get it first and that we'd be upset too if the game came out in the UK first. In response to that, we "americans" have been doing that for years, when the Japanese market was the bigger of the two and most of us got our games from Japan a year after their offical release.(as a port of course)

Its been a rather different scenario as of late as the America industry has become the forefront of revolutionary games. Give us a break and let us enjoy getting the game first. You'll be getting the game too eventually anyway.

The first version they are going to finish is the American versions so why should Americans have to wait a few months just so that the game is released everywhere at the same time. The Japanese developers normally have their games released in Japan before they get released over here. If one version get's done before the other release it...sitting on it for months doesn't make any sense.

  • 05.21.2004 3:07 PM PDT

You will wait though. Like with every other game that has ever been released. Get over yourself.

I understand that arguement. Nut, this is probably the biggest release on any machine, ever! Not some game that sounds good and we see some screenies but the Japs get it first. This is HALO 2!!

So again let me get this straight...if it is going to take Bungie another year (from Nov. 9) to complet all the versions of Halo 2 for all the countries they plan to release it in you would be ok with that?....so if UK was suppose to get it in December but they didn't complete the Japanese version or the Australian version until February you would be OK with a simultaneous release accross the world in February?...is this what you are implying?

  • 05.21.2004 3:17 PM PDT

This IS what happens, although not as you said it. The other versions are developed alongside the main versions, to reduce the time between releases.
But I would be happy to wait - I know my country isn't the be all and end all.
