We had to wait for Zelda,

Wow, we had to wait for Zelda, isn't that a shame? It wasn't all that good anyway. OoT was far superior and came out almost simultaniously with all other countries. And what about Double Dash? that came out here first. Yeah it would be a shame if Halo 2 came out later over here, but that's life; nothing is ever fair. Never.

I can understand it taking awhile for countries that don't speak english but for the UK only a quick PAL conversion is needed. why should we have to wait longer just so the rest of europe gets it at the same time as us?

  • 05.22.2004 6:19 AM PDT

a quick PAL conversion is needed
A good PAL conversion isn't quick. That's why Bungie are developing both the NTSC and PAL versions at the same time.

Honestly guys, think about it from somebody elses perspective, like getting sony games or nintendo (i shudder at both) they always get ripped off cause half the games are made in Japan and, AND, they are relaesed in Europe first, like Steel Battalion (i accidently picked up this British Xbox mag cause it had this really cool slip on cover that was very durable). And it had steel battalion in it, and im lookin and it wasnt bein released in America for like another year (not like i would buy it for $120 w/ special controller). How long did you guys acroos the water have to wait for Halo?? Im pretty sure that Bungie will do thier damndest to get it to u guys on November 9th.

I don't see the damn problem. It takes about a day to ship, and they have to change formats and put it into different languages. Somebody in here said that they should delay it for everyone until it can be shipped everywhere. Whoever the hell said that is one selfish son of a -blam!-. If it's ready, ship the damn game out. If you really want to play it, import the damn thing. I've been waiting long enough, I don't want to wait an extra 3 months because some guy in another country is whining. That's like saying, "If I don't have any money, you should give me half of yours."

Someone also said this-
Ok, a slightly off-topic question. How would you have felyt if Lord of the Rings had been released in England one month before you could see it in America or anywhere else. Halo 2 is LOTR of computer games.
Personally, I would have waited the extra month without complaint. And another thing, I was in another country where LOTR Return of the King came out like 3 months ago and I bought it for like $1.25. When I told my friends that, all they said was, "NICE!" They didn't piss and moan about it.

You guys in the UK are being way too sensitive about this. So you've got to wait a little bit, so what? We've waited for all kinds of stuff in the U.S. and the argument "Zelda isn't Halo" is just plain weak. All Zelda games (with the possible exception of Majora's Mask and the Windwaker [I thought they were still pretty good nonetheless]) are awesome. They were that time's equivalent of Halo and we waited. Was it fair? Not really, but you know the saying "Life's not fair. Then you die." The delay isn't so bad and I think you guys should at least pretend you have the maturity to suck it up.

-edit- My friend did pretty much the same thing C. He got a Russian version of Return of the King several weeks ago. Believe it or not, none of us whined "Why, oh why couldn't they release it everywhere at the same time? It's not fair! I'm going on a hungerstrike until I get justice!!" or anything to that effect.

Now here's a question, if Fable came out in the UK before the US, would you demand PMO hold production until the US version was complete? If he didn't would you sit around and not buy it because it's a horrible injustice that the US doesn't have it yet?
Didn't think so.

it depends how long the delay is for, i can suck it up for up to 3 months (the usual waiting time) but if it gets more i won't be happy

world wide releases arent an impossible dream. if memory serves Occarina of Time was very nearly world wide and that had alot of translating to be done. quite frankly there is no excuse at all for delays due to translation, it should be done right from the start of the project, not at the end.
as for ntsc to pal. how hard can it be if i can buy a disk for my gamecube for 15 quid that does it for me?

Wasnt Halo2 Set back any way!? If so then maybe they should have time to sort this "big" let down out, o well. Ya know if US get it first we have an excuse for loosin on xbox live! :-p You see one advantage, the americans have no excuse for been poor at the game!
Well i dont think people are been babyish so much about it all, its just we have ALL had a set back already (i think?) and another would be a little frustrating, you have to appreciate this every one.

Yeah. The one's from the US aren't whining. Heh heh, just tryin' to get your goat. Anyway, there's no need to think Americans are full of themselves. . . although. . . many of us are, like me for example. After all, I can sense some egocentricity on your part, and this thread entirely by its very nature.

If the games isn't all translated and in PAL formate when its due for release in the US, they shouldn't stall it for world wide release. Im form the UK and thats my opinion. My other point is that a world wide release date would probably be more beneficial for Bungie in this day and age of globalised markets and the internet. If we Europeans have to wait another 6 months or whatever the hype might be slightly less as all will be known and so sales too. Personally like others I see no excuse for not creating the two formats alongside each other considering the scale of the european market. But if thats the way its gone down, lets not deny our american friends there halo 2 playing.

Ok the reason why i wat it to be a world wide reaese is because i want to be REALLY good at HALO2 and i don't want someone to pick it up and then get better then me in 2 MONTHS!
Also the xbox can change languages exept EA you know games?

A non-world wide release is pure bad management on Bungie's part. A PAL conversion or a Language translation should not take another 3 months after an English NTSC version is finished. Bungie has had heaps of time to plan the release of Halo 2 and they should have managed to co-ordinate the timing... I will be very dissapointed if Bungie says that the worldwide release of Halo2 will be delayed weeks/months (anything up to a week I can understand due to transport issues)

It's that attitude that gives Americans a bad name overseas.

In the weekly update thing, they said that the employees are already hard at work on making the PAL version syncronise well with the american version. I think that bungie wouldn't delay it for PAL gamers (at least not very long) because they appreciate the support of all their fans whether their american, british, french, australian etc.
Just thank god that squaresoft aren't making this game because some of their delays are are disgraceful.
Bungie, if you need to spend more time making the PAL version's framerate and quality perfect, do it I say.
PS Im from England and so long as it doesn't take ages I guess I don't mind, PAL gamers try and see it from bungie's perspective instead of demanding the game this instant.

All i'm saying is that a delay of a few weeks is acceptable but more than a month is not.

Big releases nowadays seldom have much of a time gap between NTSC and PAL release, and halo 2 shouldn't be any different. A few weeks at the most.

BUT, whats really annoying is the fact that us UK gamers don't know when its coming. It would have been nice to get a date at the same time as the Americans, just so we know how long we have to wait.

Whats also annoying is that UK gamers have to wait extra time because the PAL format games usually have about 5 langauges in them :/ But theres not really anything we can do about that.

I just pray bungie have foreseen this and have made the PAL code more or less alongside the NTSC code. They've had enough time.

You could just go on ebay and buy the U.S. version when it comes out and see if it works on your XBOX.

but....it wouldn't....whats the point in even HAVING PAL if we could just use NTSC?????

Question...were there different languages in the European version of Halo? Answer...NO. So it looks like the PAL conversion arguement and the languages arguement are out the window. As I stated before, there's no excuse, and a salute to the post above, if it is to be delayed give us a release date, not a TBD.
