Me: "OMFG, Dude... wtf!"
AbolitionofMan: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to betray you."
Me: "That's the 4th time in this game alone!"
Chris: "Third, besides he had the flag I was trying to stop him, how was I supposed to know you were there."
Me: "I said, 'I got the Flag, don't shoot.'"
Chris: "Well those Wraith shots take a while to reach you."
Me: "You were right next to me, I had killed him and a minute passed before you decided to shoot."
Chris: "Hahahahaha, yeah... that was great."

So, call a store in the U.S, have them deliver it to the post office, then have it sent to wherever you live.

Modded xbox = no live play. :(

Modded XBox = Live Play.... you can turn it off for Live...

language conversion was poor on halo, i mean English spelling of color is colour, did we see colour in our halo?? NO it was color, so if we have to wait please bungie do it properly! (check the English dictionary first!)

Films wait almost a year after production is finished to even come out, not to mention it's NEVER the same day....
Frankly, it is United States innovation, so I think we should have it first :-p
Aside from that, there's a bunch of legal issues. Bungie needs to take out patents and copyrights in other countries, get producers in other countries (well were Microsoft isn't located) etc. That's a really long process.

So, get it done before Nov 9th, or if they don't think they can, then don't release it on Nov 9th. Simple.

Ok, we do not use that spelling, the point is... you know what the word is... simple as that. It's like one mistake probably... out of thousands they could have made. Also... I cannot think of the old classic Space Game.... from Japan... "All Your Bare Are Belong To Us." See how bad it COULD be... but isn't.

lol.
It November 9th is a release date. Simply put, they owe no one that release date outside the country they produce their labor within. This basically means that production for US goods will be done well before that, and in fact, in stores that day.

If you have issues with translation or what-not, you could have US game if your country adopted the United States' electronics measures. But that's a political issue and not necessary the right one. Delays are expected when you have to convert it to almost 20 different electronic formats, for just one game.
And as we speak, they test on US electronic protocols, not UK, not European. If you have a problem with that, then once again, talk to your standards committee, or get Bungie to move to your country.

Final point being is that delays will happen. Yes, I happen to be in the United States but at the same time, I never complain when someone else gets something before me. It doesn't help the issue.

Wow! I'm arguing this case over HBO (70-odd replies) and this one really puts me in my place. I can't really argue with any of the above.

Morriss, just give it a rest. Just be thankful you weren't watching Half-Life 2 during 2003, you would have really had a heartattack then. Waiting a few weeks or even a few months for Halo2 isn't going to kill you. Believe it or not, there's more to life than that.

How about they ship the game for the US and Canada on Nov 9th, and you stop your whineing. We shouldnt have to wait another month just so we can all get it in the same time. I know its going to suck that people have already beat the game 100 times by the time you get it, but thats life.

Don't worry Morriss, if Halo2 comes out in the US before the UK, then I'll be sure to tell you how it ends and all the secrets before you it comes out in the UK so you don't feel like you missed out. Bwahahaha.

  • 05.23.2004 10:27 AM PDT

Firstly, if there is a delay, it will only be for a couple of days. FEW US GAMES are released in the UK more than a week after release in the US. But there shouldn't be a delay anyway.
Wasnt Halo2 Set back any way!?
No.
but....it wouldn't....whats the point in even HAVING PAL if we could just use NTSC?????
PAL is a superior format to NTSC. The refresh rate is slightly less, but the resolution is a lot higher.
You could just go on ebay and buy the U.S. version when it comes out and see if it works on your XBOX.
Once again, someone who doesn't read. Xbox games are region-encoded, so guess what that means.

I'd still really love Bungie to say that they've changed their minds and Halo 2 will be confirmed only for the UK on 9th November - THEN we'd see who the whiners really were!

Superior does not equate to a higher resolution. There is a lot more that goes into a standard than just that. And refresh rate matters quite a bit when it comes to television sets, especially plasma.

And I folks say you're a terrific liar. -special award to anybody who knows what I'm quoting from-

Goweb, don't ask for charity when you wouldn't do the same if circumstances were different. I know you wouldn't want to delay Halo2 in the UK to synchronize it with a US release, so there's not much point in pretending that you would. You're already crazy by default (sad effect of being British) which isn't really a bad thing, but don't be a liar too.

Delays and waiting are just a part of being a gamer. We Americans just so happen to be lucky for once.

No, it's superior because it has a higher resolution. And more lines.

And refresh rate matters quite a bit when it comes to television sets, especially plasma.

We're talking about the difference between 50Hz and 60Hz (25 - 30 fps). It makes little difference because of the way your eye sees normally. For all intents and purposes, games at 25 fps and 30 fps will look the same.
And I folks say you're a terrific liar. -special award to anybody who knows what I'm quoting from-

Don't ask for something you wouldn't be willing to give if you weren't in the 'needing' position. I know you wouldn't want to delay Halo2 in the UK to synchronize it with a US release, so there's not much point in pretending that you would. You're already crazy by default (sad effect of being British) which isn't really a bad thing, but don't be a liar too.

Believe what you like - I'm sure if you knew me you would know that I'm not lying.

All I have to say to all of you European fans is that you should be thankful that you do not live in Australia.

I can see no reason why Halo 2 cannot have a world-wide release, if films can do it so can games. I don't want to hear that the UK release will put back to Christmas or January or something like that.

News Flash: Films don't neccsarily do world-wide releases. I was in Australia two years ago and saw movie posters for films that had been released at least six months prior in the U.S. I believe that The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was one of them. I never heard one Aussie complain about having to wait six more months to see Gosford Park either.

We're talking about the fact that we don't wanna wait for Halo 2. We wan't it on Nov 9th

Tough beans. Bungie is not going to release it any sooner because somebody raises a stink. Remember, patience is a virtue. Even if there is no world-wide release date, you all will still get it before me as I will have to wait for it to come out on PC. Just suck it up and wait patiently like everyone else. Also, all of you, proofread your posts for God's sake. The spelling and grammar in here is atrocious.

I'm reminding of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory: "But I want it noooooooow."

Bungie is a US developer, therefore the work they do starts out on US equipment and in the US version of the english language. Are all of you that are whining a developer of anysort? I currently am a comp sci major and have been writing programs for people for a little while now. Do you have any idea how much it hurts the flow of creativity if you try and make every single step along the way completely compatible? It is much better to let your creativity flow and then make sure it works for everyone afterward. What you are asking Bungie to do is stifle their creativity just so you can have the game at the same time.

Why shouldn't the U.S. get the game if its done? What you are saying is: "If I can't have it now then no one can!" If LOTR was released in England first I wouldn't be pissed at New Line. I would definitely be disapointed that I still hadn't been able to see it, but I wouldn't be at New Line's throats just because someone got it before me.

One other thing that has to be kept in mind is in a bussiness sense, Halo is much more popular than either Europe or Japan, therefore it would make much more sense to release it to the U.S. first, if anyone.

Patience young padawan.

Your absolutely right, i live in the netherlands and i was asking myself the same question about WORLD WIDE release? hmmm i didnt see it in the faQs, musta misst it!
But yeah i would hate it to if they would said owh that game called halo 2 it will be released around march in the netherlands :(
I dont understand why not do a world wide release, sell as most games as you can in such a short time!!!
Why do does americans always get the upper hand!!!

I think the reason that there isn't a single world wide release date is baecuse of translation issues. I suppose it would be possible to release it in England and Canada at the same time as in the U.S. (are there any other english speaking nations out there?). In the end, it would just push the release date back for everyone. Also, while this is just a guess, I think that another reason for staggering the release date accross the world is because, in the event of a flop (I am refering to all games now, not just Halo 2), the company releaseing it won't go broke. So, that makes us sort of like lab rats, I guess (testing it out on us). And Americans don't ALWAYS 'get the upper hand'. Take, for example, Nintendo. It is based in Japan, and they always get their hands on games before Americans do. It really isn't any different than why you guy are complaining, and it is not in our favor.
Also, I havn't read the rest of this thread, so I don't know if this was already mentioned.

I am not disagreeing with the first post or anything, but look at Japan. Everyone waits for months for a Japanese game to be translated and come to their country. Perhaps Bungie wants Halo 2 to be released in Europe/Asia at the exact same time, which means the English-speaking countries (UK... uh.. basically just the UK) will have to wait for the game to be converted to PAL.

Hell, I don't know. I wish it could be a worldwide-release.
