You could try cutting that black wire thing that goes from the earpiece to the mic. Then you could shave the wires on the mic and on the earpiece, and extend it by putting new wire in between. After that you could tape it up. It might look messy though, and it might not work. I only suggest doing that as a last solution.
The other thing you could try is to make a paper cone with a hole at the tip, and slide it over the mic. It might look weird though.
