that video card is 2 month old and it's supported by the game.

  • 05.22.2004 5:14 AM PDT

It isn't a DX9 card. Sure it's supported, but it doesn't mean that it'll give you access to everything. And the GeForce 4 is very old now.

But my mate can play halo on a ge force 3 32mb and mines ge force 4 128mb not only that it plays all the other top sellers of 2003/2004 it plays call of duty with access to everything it also play UT2004 with all of it's graphics/options set to high and it dosen't eaven effect the load time.

when i installed halo it said, your driver was not tested for tjhis game please get the latest driver from your manufacturers website the only tihng is i have the latest driver.

It doesn't support anisotropic filtering though. It's a crap card basically (I had one - it's a budget version of a relatively ancient card). Trust me - a newer card will allow you to turn these on.
God, you didn't choose your name for no reason ;-)

Yours isn't just a GeForce4, it's a GeForce4MX. The MX model is essentially an overclocked GeForce2, having the all the speed but none of the features. It's as he was saying, you simply need a better video card.

well why does it work with call of duty and UT2004 which have better graphics and higher system requirements. and i doubt that i need a new one as i have only had it for two months and it can play all of the latest games but it just dosen't like halo and im not going out to buy a new vidieo card after just paying 80pound for this one.

and if what you said is true then how does the GeForce 2 MX work?

UT2k4 and Call of Duty both do NOT take advantage of the latest pixel shading technology. As such they do not have these issues.

you did't awnser my question though, if the ge force 4 is just an over clocked ge force 2 then how does th geforce 2MX work? hmm let me see it's a overclocked ge force 0.

and both UT2004 and Call of Duty have superb graphics. im not saying that i dislike halo i think it's a grate game but my pc seems to hate it.

When I said GeForce2, I meant GeForce2MX.

The GeForce4MX is an economy model graphics card. It's not a true GeForce 4, and it's really kind of lame that they put it in the GeForce4 family, as it lacks the features of even a GeForce3. A GeForce4MX is essentially a really fast GeForce2MX. There's nothing special about the card at all.

  • 05.22.2004 1:53 PM PDT

Shishka should have also mentioned that it doesn't matter how long you've personally owned the card. The GeForce 4 MX has been out for about two YEARS.

you still haven't awnserd my question is the geforce 4 mx is an over clocked ge force 2 then how does the ge force 2 mx work.

and halo has been out for 3 years all the gearbox did was convert kit/

  • 05.23.2004 2:00 AM PDT

The Xbox is running a heavily modified GeForce 3. The GeForce 4 MX isn't really an overclocked GeForce 2 - Shishka said that to emphasise that the GeForce 4 MX has the features of a GeForce 2 but at a faster speed. The GeForce 2 MX would be slower than the GeForce 2, and have less features.

well i don't think it's my video card i think it's the driver, the driver i am running has been out for one month so i think i's a bit too advanced for older games like halo, halo is too easy for my computre to run so it has had to clock it's self down to run it. where as ut2k4 is more of a challendge for it so thats why it likes it. plus ut2k4 was made with nvidia which is why it works so well on my computer. hopefully halo 2 will come out on pc and that will be more of a challendge for it. thaks for your help but i think il just hvae to live with it.

It IS the video card. Definitely. 100%. Ask tech support and they'll tell you the same thing.

He's right man the card you are using sucks. the Mx series is entry lvl card and is not the best by far. To run the game well should get atleast an nvida fx5200 or above. I am using the new ATI 9800xt Pro and I get "SICK" frame rates.

Save up buy a better card end of story.

Call them up and ask if anisotropic filtering is supported. Or Pixel Shaders 2.0.

i looked in the manuel and it said yes

  • 05.23.2004 10:01 AM PDT

Well, you're still wrong. If the manual says that anisotropic filtering and Pixel Shaders 2.0 are supported, then you don't have a GeForce 4 MX because that particular card doesn't support them.
I don't know why you can't just admit that your card is bad. It isn't anything against you.

i know that it's not the card for serveal reasons
1. It's suported and recommended by the game in the config file
2. your posts haven't been ver deatiled or thaught through.
3. Nvidia said that the card is one of the best from the GeForce 4 series
4. Nvidia's manuel said that it is caperble
5. My friends know a lot about this sort of thing and he said that you are wrong
6. my video card is caperble of more recent games than halo which was realsed 3 year ago
7. failure to awnser my post accordingley.
8. provideing no real solutions

best of GeForce! HAHAHAHA. More like worst. Your friend is an idiot. Nvidia manual is wrong since it says its CAPERBLE???. Halo was released for pc bout half a year ago not 3.
I KNOW its your card, i have one, its complete crap.

  • 05.23.2004 1:20 PM PDT

I'm going answer these in order:

1: Just because the game supports it doesn't mean that you'll get the best experience. Half-Life 2 will support the GeForce 2, but that doesn't mean you'll get reflections from the water.

2: How detailed do you want? Full specifications?

3: The GeForce 4 Ti is the best of the series. The MX is the worse.

4: My GeForce 4 manual has got sweet FA in it about actual specs. The box has more, in fact. Even the site says nothing about it. But it's interesting that the site says that the MX is ideal for "2D office applications" and "web browsing". The Ti series is for "Advanced 3D applications".

5: Your friend obviously knows nothing about 3D cards if he thinks the MX is good.

6: So's an original GeForce. You work it out.

7 & 8: We have all provided a solution: Get a new 3D card

Are you sure you haven't a GeForce FX instead? And you haven't given us much gratitude for helping you.

Okay, these guys are right. Halo is a major video hog. I have a radeon 9200 pro 128mb and it just barley runs Halo at 800X600. Its a good card for anything older than DX9 but it just doesn't have the juice for a DX9 game. Ya,ya you can play UT2K4 and Call of Duty but all games use different fitures. You have the same problem and i know it because my friend has your card and it blows. I can run halo fine at 640X480 using 1.4 instaed of 2.0 pixel shader. Thats with full graphic options. YOU try this but i might not work. RIght click on the short cut for Halo and in the target bar type :"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -novideo -14. It will lanch HAlo without playing the annoying videos at lanch at it will run it as a 1.4 pixel shader card. Your card doesnt fully and properly run at 2.0 and neither does my. They are both older cards and i cant recommend either of them for Direct X9 programs. E-mail me at combatevolved_117@hotmail.com if you have any luck. CHEERS :)
