Sometimes, I like playing Halo a lot more than Halo 2. For several reasons.
A) BOOM!
The sounds, music, and gameplay in Halo are just so much louder! If you compare the grenades, Halo 2 frags are puny. I love the satisfying bang when it explodes into the air above your head.
The Scorpion tank, (still my favorite vehicle in both games) is fast in Halo, but the accuracy sucks. However, it always makes a satisfying explosion 20 feet into the air when you fire at that enemy atop the hill. The Halo Warthog seems so much more powerful as well.
The weapons, all of them, make loud noises! Even the Covenant Plasma Rifle is funner to use in Halo than Halo 2.
Music. Simply said. They music is a lot louder and seems more inspirational and feels good to listen to. It always has a good beat and is definitely recognizable whether you're playing Halo or Halo 2.
B) Weapons
From Halo to Halo 2, you can obviously tell the replacement for the Pistol and Assault Rifle simply by reticles. The SMG has the old AR reticle, and the Magnum has the old Pistol reticle. The Sniper Rifle and other weapons have the same.
These two new replacements - SMG and Magnum - are simply wimps compared to the old ass kicking guns of Halo. Of course, the Pistol was way overpowered. The Battle Rifle was a good add in though. Of course, I'm a God with it on my good days, so I can't complain too much about that.
DA NEEDLER! The Needler in Halo actually works. You point, shoot for about two seconds, and your needles ACTUALLY track your target quite well and blow them up with a beautiful and bloody pink death. (Critics argue it's purple.) This works more in Campaign than MP. In Halo 2, your needles make a half-assed attempt at following the bad guy. They just kind of fly off...
AND THEN IT TAKES two clips (fire one clip of each dual Needler) to kill an enemy. usually. And even then, you might as well just beat the guy down because his shields are probably only half down. Halo Needler kicks ass!
Sniper Rifle. (My way of saying it.) I like the Halo 2 Sniper Rifle, but one reason I better like the Halo Sniper Rifle is because of the reloading. When you reload with no rounds in the clip, your character -blam!- it to put a round in the chamber. If you reloaded with a round in the chamber, your character doesn't do that. I wish all of the guns reloaded that way, it's so much more realistic. And it's nice and loud.
And the Beam Rifle sucks. No argument.
C) Maps
I have both versions of Halo, and I like playing the PC one more. That's simply because of that maps. They're huge, they echo a lot better, and yeah!
The PC version has a few more maps than the Xbox version, but I like playing both. The maps are daring, challenging, and fun! Whereas in Halo 2 they're kind of small and plain; although I love the city maps.
In Halo Custom Edition, you can download player made maps or make your own! And Bungie encourages this and modding in Halo! Boy oh boy do I love flying around in those Pelicans (second favorite vehicle), Longswords, and fighter jets. Oh, but in Halo 2, we only have a little Banshee which sounds no where near as cool as the Halo Banshee does. It's louder.
D) Vehicles
Simply put, there's a lot more variety in Halo 2 vehicles, and I like them more than Halo vehicles. Except for the chain gun of the Halo Warthog, because it's loud and has a really powerful feeling. I'm just putting this here because I want to make a statement.
E) Story
The Halo story is gripping, exciting, and intriguing. You always wonder "what happens next?". "Do I get to play in this part?" Ah yes. It is quite possibly one of the best original storylines in the video game world. Earth is close to being attacked. A strange ring-world has been found. You must save the Marines on the ground and find the Index. It's all fascinating.
In Halo 2, I was like "wow, I just played this storyline. How. Excit. Ing." You fly down to ground on Earth (like onto Halo), kick some Covenant ass (like on Halo), eventually leave the surface (The Truth and Reconciliation), try to find the Index (like on Halo!?! OMG!), find the Flood (again?!!?OHHAX!?!!11), go through the Library and find the Control Room (OMGIJUSTPLAYEDTHATHAXING WTF HALO!?!?!111!one!!). So yeah. You play the same story that's a little different setting, events, and as a fuzzy cute Elite, but yeah, same story.
F) Cheaters (-blam!-s who can't fight legit worth a damn)
In Halo, if you decide to mod your weapons and vehicles, everyone else can use that stuff on the map. So technically you can't cheat in Halo.
But in Halo 2 cheaters do it all the time! I saw someones sig from Halopin(pen?) that said "Man only walked on water once. Modders do it every day". And it has a picture of a cute Elite. But that inspirational quote is true! And what is Bungie doing about it? Not much.
I'm just hopping along with the enemy flag to my base, enjoying life, smelling the beautiful flowers of blue base in Sanctuary, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN LITTLE SCOTTY GOT SHOT WITH A FULL CLIP OF A BATTLE RIFLE IN LESS THAN A SECOND! THOSE DARN MODDERS WITH THEIR AUTO-BRS!!!! ARGH!!!
Please don't cheat and feel free to discuss my opinions. :)
