This may not be the appropriate place to post this, but it relates to Halo and it's a mod for a PC game.

Halogen has been closed. This sucks.

It basically means Microsoft is the same as my younger cousin. Spoiled, rich, stupid, and ignorant. We hate you Microsoft, we truly, truly, hate you.

Man Microsoft is such a noob. They probably thought that halogen's ideas were better than their own and they got jealous.

Maybe if they asked Bungie, I don't think Microsoft has any say on Bungie's copyrights....

the thing is, is that some one was creating a mod that let people "play" halo, without paying for the game. Its just like you created a map for ce. Then before you released it, someone stole it and released it under their name, even though you had created it. The same thing applies with content ripped from other games that you put into your map. Granted that there are halo 2 maps in ce...

I don't know what game the mod was for, but it did violate IP. Bungie/MS owns that IP and if you violate it, you could get punished.

Another mod that is transforming a game into another game is Project Revolution. They are trying to do a balancing act on the IP. They making it such that you require the Starcraft/Brood War disks to play the Warcraft 3 Mod, thus they hope to not violate IP. Blizzard has not said anything either way about the mod... yet.

I HATE YOU MICROSOFT!!!!!!

I wish people would stop bashing Microsoft. They have every right to protect their property and as much as I hate to see the HaloGen project kaput I won't give Microsoft any grudges for protecting their stuff.

*sob* *sob*

And i was LOOKING forward to that...now i HATE YOU!!!!!!!!!!

man that was going to be a kick ass PC game

First of all, it's not a retail game, Mr. Ignoramus. It's a mod for Command and Conquer Generals, not a game you go into stores and buy. Secondly, you probably don't even have C&C Generals, do you?

So much for the Fair Use laws. What's next, shut down HBO because you don't have to buy Halo to visit the site?

so...Bungie got the Idea for HALO itself from a cover of a book...they disobyed copywrite...cant think of the book...ill try to find it

[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringworld]Ringworld[ /url], by Larry Niven.

If you are saying that getting inspiration from one story to write another different story is the same thing as taking exact and specific characters, weapons, and objects a game, putting them into another game (with the same names) all without the permission of the people who created those objects....

Well, I hope that is not what you are saying.

There are Fair Use laws, you know. As long as you don't use the actual resources, you're fine. Unless you're going up against the evil all-deouring corperation that is Microsoft.

I guess your right, but I still don't see how a fan-made mod violates the fair use laws. Are they really that scared of a mod for a three year old game that's been designated to the bargan bin? There's no way it would impact an offricial Halo RTS (unless the offical RTS sucked).

Sorry if I sounded kinda angry in my last post, it's just that I've been following this mod for three years, and they were so close to their first public beta...

they were not comming out with something that "slightly" resembled halo. this again goes to IP, even though you may have a diffrent name for things, if those things are the same, you have violated IP. If someone stole my map that I'm working on, renamed it, and released it... he/she just violated my IP of my map. If they changed the textures and sky, it would still be in violation, because it still is my layout and my map that they stole.
