Should we implement ranks/levels into this game. Note that this wouldn't apply to all servers, on like unranked servers it can show your level but it won't count if you win or lose. I think this would be really cool.

It will only encourage cheating, so NO!

Yes. Despite cheating, yes.

People can only Aimbot and not mod and plus I can beat almost anyone who bots (nades are your friend). There is software to detect aimbot as well.

I don't think there's enough people if you want a MM system, but ranks would be okay.

I mainly want ranks just so I can find skilled players to play with and have more close and tough competitions.

first, is this for halo custom edition, halo pc, or halo 2 pc?

for halo pc/ce yes, there are usualy only aim-bots. BUT people can mod maps. these modded maps could give the person extra stuff, and we could do nothing about it.

then again, look at what happened to halo 2 for the xbox. people were moding and cheating any way they could. Now, if levels are used on the pc version, people have a whole lot more access to the levels... you can easyly mod them to your likeing. Not to mention any wall hacks or aim bots that would appear, though they will anyway with time.

And that same software won't let me FlyCam, 3rd Person, Zelda Cam, Chase Cam, 1st Person Vehicle, FoV Change, and in some cases, use Fraps...

HAC is crap....

I think it's a moot point because Bungie pulled the plug on Halo and stopped supporting it years ago.

sad but true
and since I won't be able to get H2V for a while, I'm gonna have to carry on... maybe play XBL a little more.

Ranking in Halo2 made Halo2 look like some effing MMO, so no, no, and HELLS no.

You guys no why people can mod? THEY HAVE HOST, therefore they mod through their xbox, but ONLY CAN DO IT IF THEY HAVE HOST.

You DO know that this is the Halo PC and Halo 2 Vista forum?

Issues such as host are unique to the console version.

I think that's exactly what he's trying to say.

I agree. However, I do think that being the host and having no latency whatsoever is an unfair advantage in itself, whether you use it to cheat or not.

Well, that's really up to the decisions and current situations. I mean, if someone's being a jerk, it's your responsibility to ban/kick him out, and sure, you may put in your favorite maps, but hey, it's called "host" for a reason.

But yeah, the advantage that hosts get is the no latency. I mean, they still need to lead, but not AS much. Eh, I don't really mind that, I don't care if my enemy's a host or not (unless it's a 1 on 1, than it's really unfair). To be honest, I sometimes host too.

well, what I was pointing out is that a host can just ban whoever he/she wants, weather they are being 'good' or 'bad'.

the map choice thing is they may only play what they like, not what others want. there though people can just leave if they don't like it.

Actually, on Halo 2, there's a different system. The "Party Leader" decides what maps and what gametypes to play, and he gets to boot any person he wants from the game. He's not necessarily the host, so the Party Leader will have latency as well.

Yes, but if the host is being an ass, he'll just end up banning everyone, and everyone who was banned will hate him, and he'll be put up in the Halo Hall of Shame. It's his fault for giving himself a bad name.

Also, if the guys don't like the certain maps that the host likes, it's not the host's responsibility to know what 15 other players likes. But it's a pity, that Halo doesn't have the voting feature like CS or Call of Duty, in which you can get a majority vote on a certain map, gametype, etc. to be on the next round.

Also, whenever I host my own server, my map cycle is awlays Blood Gulch, Danger Canyon, Damnation, or Prisoner, and all the people that joins my server seems to like the maps. But that's just me, I've never had a problem with random riots from hosting my own server, so what do I know. =P

I don't like the idea. I've always liked how you can simply just join a server and have some good old fashioned gunslinging fun and don't give a damn about your rank, or getting stuck with cheaters, or getting constantly owned by expert players from being in the higher ranks, etc. That's just my opinion.

a valid point.

The main stated goal of the console version of MatchMaking was not about rank or any of the ego-related things that it has turned into.

The original purpose of MatchMaking was to gather together random strangers who didn't want to play friends of varying skills, but rather to play with (and against) people who all were of similar caliber. Those nail-biting games where the difference between winning and losing is how hard someone played or some minor twist in how things turned out.

Bungie stated that while they enjoyed playing with friends, they discovered that if there were significant differences in skill levels, after a while it became less-enjoyable for those who were dominating and those who were being dominated.

The idea of MatchMaking was to have enough people online, with enough historical game data that it would be possible to arrange matches that would be a challenge.

Unfortunately, I believe that Bungie gave far to much credit to some members of the gaming community. Bungie themselves were not concerned with the concept of rank itself, only how it related to the system being able to match people together. I think that they expected the players of Halo 2 to have similar desires, motivation and reasons for playing.

Unfortunately, many gamers feel that their time spent online is not as a member of a community, but solely for themselves. The rest of the online players might as well be "bots" who are there so "I can have fun".

The flaw in MatchMaking (IMO) was in Bungie not considering that aspect of human nature combined with the huge number of such egocentric tools that exist in the world.

Are PC gamers made of "better stuff"? I don't know for certain. But the potential for a new and incredible experience is the same. Unfortunately, so are the risks.

Well, ranks do work well in some PC games. While ranks may work well in a game like America's Army, where cheating wouldn't really help you out in ranks, it would be horrible in Halo...
